Flip Flopping between macOS and Windows

I think the ThinkPad P14S (Do I have the right model you were looking at? ) looks to be a great option for a laptop but it is Windows. With that said, I don't see the pricing being a 1,000+ more then the MBP" What am I missing? This model is cheaper then the 14" MBP, has more ram and storage as well.

I'm not making a case for the Thinkpad, just trying to get my brain wrapped around it being a thousand or thousands more.. As for the Surface, I've owned a number of those laptops, and I've largely walked away disappointed. Some of the designs were unique, and I was enthralled by them, but actual usage was not great and the pricing is high for what you get.

I just got back from best buy here. We only have a best buy express in our town which only has crappy low end machines on display.

So I went and looked at every offering there in both chromebook, mac and windows. My favorite laptop of them all was the Asus A16. Extreme lightweight, power of the x2 extreme chip, display is awesome, and the touchpad and keyboard was top notch.

I think it will be our next systems. I don't mind the size of the machine. It looks only marginally larger than my current 14 inch dell judging by the space on the sides of the keyboard. I was all in on the Dell 14s, but the price of the system is what is getting me. But I am not sure the intel x7 ultra chip would do it. They say the graphics processing is better than the 40x series RTX cards so that still might be an option as well.

Outright lies. Also, they are mobile cards. To compare them to desktop class is like comparing a bicycle to a motorbike. The price reflects the market for Intel. Who I would be surprised exists in 10 years. At least making chips.

But even on desktop, the 5000 series hasn’t added much over the 4000. Even the 5090 only saw a marginal boost. All they did was cram AI slop into them and restrict you to the latest AI slop riddled drivers that have been plagued by problems since launch. GN did an entire expose on it about 6 months ago showing the sad state of their GPUs.

Strange tho, ASUS’s site doesn't show any Intel A16s so I assume you mean another laptop. AMD/Nvidia is still the way to go imo. And chromebooks are like burning money.

My favorite laptop of them all was the Asus A16.

I like the Asus laptops though I've never owned one. I do think they're generally a solid product

Don't mind him my friend. What I have been reading and witnessing states completely the opposite from his views. You can sleep well at night knowing that your 5090 crushes any Apple GPU on the market. I am talking about the snapdragon X2 Extreme processor.

Just one game, but your precious 5090M compares to a two year old 4070Ti, which is marginally faster than the 4070S, a pretty mid grade card with 12GB of vram. Factor the cost differential.

Comparing it to the desktop class 5090 is absurd.

As I said, mobile GPUs are a pale comparison to desktop grade. My 4070S kicks out serious heat even in a fully ventilated case the size of a mini fridge and ample case fans (70C at full bore). How do you expect a notebook one inch thick to handle that?

Where did I say I was comparing it to a desktop 5090, exactly? In fact, I think that is pretty awesome that my 5090m uses like 90% less power and compares to a 4070Ti! That is amazing! Plus I can take it with me as a carry on. Nice!

I also read the second part, see that is the nice part. I can get really good frame rates, and I don't even have to blast the fans much (I leave it in balanced mode) as there is 24GB of VRAM.

So yeah there is a little heat, but also because it doesn't use desktop levels of power, there isn't as much heat.

This Lenovo has been great!

The funny thing is that wasn't even my goal. I was just getting a gaming laptop before the prices went up. I paid $1500 for a refurbed laptop from Lenovo because I bought a 5070Ti. Instead they gave me a 5090. So yeah. Pleased as punch. Some rando on the internet won't change that.
