1) Use cloud programs where possible. This may be your main programs or office programs or ancillary stuff but you have to go through each program and figure out if you can run it from multiple operating systems via cloud or shared folders or some other mechanism. I have it fairly worked out and can switch almost completely seamlessly. The holdouts I have are iCloud Calendar and Downie. I can run iCloud Calender in the browser on Windows which is what I do. I have some alternatives to Downie but none are as convenient or performant as Downie.

2) Maintain a home system so that you can propagate needed files to the other systems. This should mean that you only need to backup one system as you have other backups on your other systems.
So my issue is that I edit videos. I suppose I could use the premiere/resolve cloud services but would rather avoid that.

I only edit on macOS so that is one area where I don't have on macOS and Windows. I'm just unwilling to learn a new program at this time.

Apple is getting their fair share now. Gotta love Ai......smdh. I always thought Sam Altman was developing the end games AI turns out it's Anthropic. that's stuff is hot garbage. Breaking out all over the place. doing nefarious things without prompting etc. Can we please stop with this ****.

Why?

Maybe I'm not understanding the situation, but it seems AI is being used to find flaws, and now Apple (previously MS and Linux) are working to close those vulnerabilities. Is that a bad thing (using AI to find security flaws)?

Seems like he’s referring to AI not always doing what it’s supposed to and that we won’t be able to control it eventually (which has already been foreseen). It definitely has its bug finding uses.

AI is being used to circumvent the fixes at record speed. when Apple/MS/Linux devs, fix a hole it's mere hours and the fix is cracked again. You misunderstood what they are saying. They are saying that Apple cannot keep up with the hackers. Ai is the cause of this. Where hackers actually had to do work, now they use Ai and it's cracked again in hours. AND YES CAN WE STOP WITH THIS AI TRASH/SLOP machines.

AI is also being used to identify the exploits, like it or not, AI is the future, Pandora's box has been opened and there's no going back. I personally use AI almost daily, to create useless images (see below), but also helping me with my emails, writing code, researching, etc

I couldn't help it 🙂

Here's a chart I made to send to my PCP and cardiologist. The value was elevated and those two doctors wanted to be kept in the loop. So I had blood tests this morning and the latest value was normal. I started to use Numbers to create a bar chart but Numbers doesn't make it easy. So I asked Deep Seek to make one and it was unsatisfactory. I tried Chat GPT and there were restrictions. I created this one with Claude conversationally. I didn't have to go looking for widgets or menu items to do the labels which was really nice. This means that I don't need to use any particular software program now to make charts.

I cleaned the dust filters and that dropped CPU temps on the Mac Studio two degrees. I also installed the latest Sequoia update on my iMac Pro and that dropped temps ten degrees. So I might have had a runaway or background process running or maybe it was Firefox. Firefox has known memory leak issues and I have to reboot it every couple of days and maybe the process of accumulating RAM hits the CPU.

The Windows desktop is always going to run cooler though, because it was designed to run cool and quiet.

Sounds the same as mine. 30-32deg while doing normal stuff, silent. You only hear the blower fan of the GPU when video editing, even gaming is silent.

It’s fake news. AI isn’t going rogue hacking into every corner of the internet, you can relax. Just another gambit to keep AI relevant. Remember that they don’t care if AI does good or bad things, just that it’s being talked about and used. They know they have enough money, leverage and grifters on their side to handle loss. Which they have a good chance of turning around and flipping it on you, the general public.

Don’t believe what you read about AI. The postmortem of the Hugging Face hack shows AI didn’t actually hack it, but basically brute forced into using a prior users login details.

I suggest checking out MorePerfectUnion and others who are trying to debunk all the AI claims and focus on where all the money is being shifted around to.

AI is just good at sounding human and fast and processing information available on the net. It’s not coding things, it’s not taking over humanity. They just need to sell you that narrative. It’s not even having a big impact in the scientific community either.

Be skeptical folks.

Edit: here you go, a breakdown of the so called AI hacks:

If it's from a trusted news source I will believe. if it's from some guy told me on the interweb. Nah. I don't roll with that.

The claude breaches are reported on REAL news sites, not some random YouTubedouche site.

These days, I think those two "sources" are largely the same. Sadly.

Not a chance. The real news is still the real news. idiots on facebook and those who follow said idiots just don't like the truth.
Look into the number of times that "news investigations" are simply combing social media. It's not good, and not all the fault of the "journalists" as cutbacks have hit hard.

But I agree, I was being facetious. FB is really bad.

I had my first BIOS update on the Lenovo Yoga.
This is why I avoid flashing my bios, while it is a rarity, it highlights the risks. Unless there's a clear reason to update the bios, i.e., new cpu that I need to use, I'll avoid it.

Framework is saying they'll fix the affected the laptops (which they should they caused the problem), the affected people will be without a computer for a period of time

Framework responds to complaints that BIOS update bricks Ryzen 7040 laptops

I have a backup laptop, the M1 Pro MacBook Pro as I think that you should always have at least one backup, for multiple systems, if you use your hardware to generate revenue.

I wouldn't hesitate to buy another, similar laptop that met my spec requirements.

My PC experience goes back to about the early 1980s and I haven't had any bricked PCs. I've had two bricked Macs but those were solved with a quick trip to the Apple Store.

You take a risk when you do an operating system update, BIOS update and many other things that people do as I read about them on related forums. I've heard of many people with bricked Macs for one reason or another, usually related to operating system updates. I've heard of them in the Lenovo forums too. The vast majority are on their really low-cost product lines. Low-cost effects seem to propagate into a variety of factors like worse support, more hardware and software fragility, and lower service levels.

My laptop is only a year old so I'd expect some fixes but there have actually been relatively few.

I suspect Intel is losing money on Lunar Lake chips but that Lenovo is making money, particularly on the i9 systems.

Totally different risk, a failed OS update can be resolved by reinstalling the OS. A failed bios update bricks the computer, this (by the consumer.) This is where the term bricked came from, because when it happens you have a brick, a door stop, a heavy paper weight. You have to send it in to the manufacturer and have the motherboard replaced.

This is why some motherboards have a rollback bios feature so you don't lose the entire motherboard.

There have been many reports of failed macOS updates bricking Macs where the consumer had to bring the laptop back to the Apple Store to be unbricked.

And if that were me, I would have to drive 5 hrs, get a 7 hr ferry ride, then drive another 5hrs. The closest Apple store to me. Or fly for 1.5 hrs and then drive 30 mins in a rental. That's a no go for me. That's why I like my PC's. If It breaks I can fix it without apple road blocks.

Links please - that's not something I heard about
I have had 4 iPhones come through the store with this exact same issue as well, borked it's software update and bricked to where it won't turn on, charge etc. Have to bring it to an Apple Store as apple would never let us have recovery tools here. So, they are SOL without sending it back to Apple via mail.
