Oddly enough that VPN has been rock solid. I've used that across multiple computers for something like 8 (maybe 10?) years. Its the VPN my company uses and its neve let me down. Unless you count it not running on ARM windows within Parallels on my MBP (it just won't install)
I use Express VPN. It runs great on this Mac Studio as well as my iPhones. Have not installed in on the little PC it gets used just for radio control.

I just got the new bottom plate for my dell notebook. I installed it and it fit perfectly. It feels like a new system now. I dropped it off the sofa about 3 or 4 months ago, and it broke the bottom plate. It feels like my notebook is faster now. Ha ha.

Also got the replacement touchscreen for my inspiron 5368 for my son. This was my previous system but my husky jumped on the notebook (on the sofa again,) and broke something inside the lcd.

Never know. ha ha. I have to see the system and try it first. But I have been watching alot of videos on the 2019 and it really struggles with 4k video editing, something that I do regularly. Yes, I have my workstation, but I want to be able to do it on the move like I can with this dell now. Stay tuned! ha ha.

I didn't want to hold out for the new iMac M3, so I purchased a Dell Latitude 7390. Enjoying it and Windows 11 so far! Just using it as a secondary device to complement my MacBook Air while I work. The keyboard is fantastic!
I love the keyboard on my dell inspiron as well. They do relly great jobs with their keyboards imo.

I wasn't impressed with my Dell XPS 9570, to be honest. But this thing is blowing my mind... FaceID, Touchscreen that's Matte, and the battery life is super impressive (I haven't installed a single app, all the apps I use run within Edge and I'm going to keep it that way for bloatware sake). This is like a 5 year old laptop! Got it for $250 direct from Dell Refurbished and it looks brand new.

Whats the speed like for an 8th Gen chip?

For web browsing, web apps, and watching youtube videos, perfectly adequate!
That's what I figured. Much of what happens is typical of companies trying to push new things on you every year. Most of what we already use is perfectly fine. I take my sons acer S3 for example. It was released in late 2011, and it works fine to this day doing everything he needs to do. It's modern looking like a first gen Air, it's plenty fast and the only reason I am replacing it for him is the touch pad is starting to go south on it. Other than that he does all his school work, etc on it and it skips along nicely.

Yeah, I have a desktop with a 3rd gen Intel Core i5 that still runs quite nicely. Even games reasonably well. The idea of using a 10 year old computer in 2010 would've been hilarious, but it's perfectly fine now. We seem to have really reached a peak with personal computing, where performance gains don't bring much benefit to us.

That's sort of why Apple Silicon was released at the right time... CPUs really can't get much better for the average consumer, but in terms of experience, the average user will see the gains in battery life and thermal performance that make it a much better value.

Update time.

I bought a couple used items; pristine condition iPhone 13 Pro and a refurbished Apple Watch 45mm Series 7 cellular Midnight.

Apple world is where I want to keep my personal digital life, it feels like the best fit for me in terms of fitness and Apple software.

While thinking about this I naturally started to wonder if having an Apple desktop would make sense, go all in on the ecosystem. The more I thought about it, I realised an Apple computer isn't needed, I don't really gain anything essential, just some convenience. I already know a Windows desktop is better for my work.

So let's see how this works out. Windows almost purely a work/productivity machine and everything else is Apple.

Services wise I think I'll move the majority of my mail over to iCloud just to reduce some dependency on Google. I just need Google for calendar as my wife and I have a shared calendar there. Music will be with Spotify and home automation remains with Google, I'm happy there no complaints. I'll use keychain on my phone as the master password store as I use very few websites on my desktop and those passwords are already in Google.

I think that covers everything.

I've been so happy with my MBP 16' M1 Max. I use Windows 11 on it every day with Parallels. This combination is PERFECT. I've never had a computing machine work so well for me. I can game on it with ease (Warcraft Classic).

Very happy with my setup - so much so I don't see anything changing for the foreseeable future.

Hopefully I can convince my next employer to get me a Mac (assuming my current employer doesn't get the next contract). :p

As mentioned previously, I am all apple besides my computers. I do not miss anything a Macbook brings to the table, besides looking cool at Starbucks. I use Microsoft for all my services from photo/video storage to email and browsing. It's all via microsoft. Right now, the only thing I cannot do is send a photo via my pc using imessage. that's it. Not a deal breaker.

I can make and take calls, message, and do anything productive as every photo, video and document is stored automatically via onedrive. The "ecosystem" is no longer walled like it once was. I pay for apple one premier too, but it's mainly for health + at this point, and maybe news + too. I do subscribe to readly for magazines, it's a much better option than news + and works on every device.

My wife has been giving me grief lately and it all comes back to Microsoft Office and Google. She hates Office on the Mac. Can't argue with that. She has also started hating iCloud, mainly the way it handles photos which she says Google does better. I can kind of agree with that, even OneDrive handles some aspects of photos better than Apple.

I sense a switch coming, her rather than me though.

No argument here, I think Mac is currently (software-wise) the easiest part to replace in the ecosystem. iPad is the best tablet, Apple Watch is the best smartwatch, and iPhone is the best smartphone.

But I miss my M1 MBA far less than I thought I would.

Of course the fact that I am still reading this thread probably tells everyone all that they need to know.

Agreed. It's the one part I could do without if forced. To be honest, if it wasn't for the AW I wouldn't care for an iPhone. It's the least important device to me as it's 95% for calls.
I need an iPhone because my son, who has autism, has an iPad. He will always have an iPad and I need to be able to communicate with him wherever I am. I do love most parts of the iPhone, but goddamn, give us theming on system level.

For the watch I would look at 'Work Out Doors' for your workouts. The dev is very active on here in the watch section....

Ok, so my wife has legitimate reasons for disliking iCloud and I don't understand it, so maybe someone here can explain why iCloud limits video uploads to a max of 15 minutes? Never really use videos so never noticed it, she did when trying to share a 45 min video of our son's wedding.

She uploaded it to Google without issue.

They're worried about piracy. and maybe disk space.

Seems unlikely, I hope. I mean I get the piracy issue but all platforms need a solution for that yet only Apple appears to apply these limits. Google actually appears to limit them to 15 mins for unverified accounts.

As for disk space, Apple just needs to worry about letting me use what I pay for and I have over 1TB available.
