I, too, watched Star Trek: The Next Generation, and would like to now sue Apple for making that technology come to life.

He hoping for a judge that don't like Apple. He making a living only way he know how. He know Apple rich.

Why stop at $10 billion? That drawing looks to be worth at least $100 billion.

Although he might have had a better case against the Newton or eMate. The sales of the Newton might not have assuaged his continuous irreparable harm, though. Poor guy.

Hahaha, hilarious...

Question, why now? did he just wake up from a coma nearly 25 years later? Smartphones with cellular connectivity have been around before the iPhone.

What a monumental bellend.

Prediction for this thread:

I project 633 votes (to bashes) against Ross, 8 for Ross.

Another thread where it would be an old Apple patent or Apple drawing in which Apple is trying to challenge someone for bringing something they drew or patented to market: 633 votes for Apple, 8 votes for the other entity.

At least, we're consistent around here;)
Do you seriously believe he has a case? Are you one of the eight?

To clarify, I'm not calling YOU a bellend.

Looks like a Samsung design to me. Does this idiot know that Samsung also makes cell phones, not just highly innovative pressurized rice cooker.

No the "wink" emoji means "joking" to me. The fun I'm poking is the universal nature of any kind of patent claim in front of our community here:
  • (claim) against Apple, the other guy is always wrong, "patent system is broken", "troll", etc.
  • for Apple, "must protect intellectual capital", "die <other party> die" and so on.
The patent system is in shambles when it works against Apple. The patent system is wonderful when it works for Apple. We armchair lawyers and faux Apple executives rail against patent-type claims against Apple like we have some personal stake in it... or rally behind socking it to whoever else appears to be crossing some line that Apple has patented- even if Apple has never developed whatever the patent is about... again, like it will personally affect us or our jobs.

To the first bullet, it doesn't seem to matter who the other guy is: I think the Almighty could come down from heaven above, take a stand against Apple, prove with certainty that he is indeed God, and at least a couple of dozen here would rip into Him as a fraud, "religion is overrated anyway", etc.;)

To your question: I don't think this guy has a case because he doesn't have a patent. If doodles can win billions... or millions... or thousands, many of us (and people everywhere) can become quick millionaires if we just hoarded our doodles over the years. However- not necessarily for the benefit of this guy- I do wonder if he doesn't have a patent because he chose not to get one or because he couldn't afford one. One great flaw I see with the patent system is the expense of fully acquiring the patent seems increasingly pushing the "little guy" innovator out and only working for the deeper-pocketed players like corporations. Sometimes the biggest brains for innovations are not necessarily gigantic, rich corporations. Example: think about how much Tesla's work impacts all of our lives even today. Now go look up how rich he was when he died. He might be the poster "inventor" for gigantic innovation brain always short of cash.

That's not exactly a patent reality I love either... nor- I believe- the fundamental reason for having a patent system. But that's a whole other topic.

Put me in the "looks more like a Palm Pilot" camp as well. Palm was founded in 1992 (I just checked Wikipedia) so I think this will be thrown out rather quickly.

A patent sort of has to explain to a common engineer of the time how to actually make one. But that wasn't possible in the early 1990's using any actually available components or methods. So the resulting product is more science fiction for that time than a patentable invention, as reduced to practice and sufficiently described.

If anything, this guy would have better luck suing Palm (now HP) for the PalmPilot 1000, which also use a pen.

I'm no lawyer, but it seems to me he has no standing for a suit. Even if he did, why did he wait almost 10 years after the iPhone was launched to file a lawsuit?

As any four year old child can plainly see, newly found supporting documents have been found in a hermetically sealed mayonnaise jar on Funk and Wagnall's porch.

What rock was this guy living under? Its taken him NINE YEARS to come out with this attempt? Drawings look like what we use to draw and say, hey, wouldn't this be a cool tank...with a disc drive...and solar panels. And yeah, why just Apple and not the ENTIRE smartphone industry? (I can laugh at this guy all day long since I live in Florida)

So if this guy wins and gets $10B... he's probably the one and only billinionare in the world that gets rich the fastest... much faster than any other billionaire.
