How absurd! First he gives his proof that having a flu shot made him violently sick for a prolonged period of time, then he recommends the same virus shot to kids and old people! Madness!

Correction: For EVERYBODY, eating right...

If people weren't addicted to eating nonsense just to gratify the tongue, that once it passes over that organ into the oesophagus, creates only malady (sickness), they would not even have to consider ridiculous things like flu shots. If your auto-immune system was at its correct strength, you would be automatically protected by it from viruses like flu. It is the ingestion of harmful and damaging so-called food products like cotton-wool buns with entrail burgers (Big Macs), any animal product whatsoever, principally meat, the list goes on. Please wake up and do some research to save your lives.

:rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes:

Can't tell if being sarcastic or not.

But what I mentioned is no proof and based on 5 years as an Adult. I should have also mentioned I never had the Flu as a kid (as told by my mother), and always had a Flu shot back then.

No research is needed. Everyone knows the harmful effects of not eating right. The challenge is doing something about it.

Have to have a flu shot every winter and not once have I been ill because of it.

Chances are you shouldn't be because they do not use a live virus.

I was told by a nurse that if you get actual flu twice in your life time you have been really unlucky.

You know when you have flu when you are laying in your bed and its raining and you see a £50 note laying outside on the street and you just feel so bad you leave it there.

The three times I've gotten a flu shot, each time I ended up in bed feeling like I wouldn't walk across the room for that amount of cash.

Finally got a flu shot yesterday at Walgreens. With no one in front of us it took 30 min. Next time I'm going back to the nurse station at HEB (a grocery store). And no, no symptoms after the shot. :)

I've only had the flu during the years I had the flu shot, which is why I stopped getting them. Haven't had the flu since. Now since I've said that I'll probably come down with the flu tomorrow.

To let someone inject me with an unknown substance is against my self preservation instinct. I'm in control of me, not our stupid government who thinks they know everything. Fact is, they know very little...

Actually, the scientists behind the vaccines know infinitely more about you than you do.

And also, we know exactly what goes into a flu vaccine.

I'm a libertarian, but this meathead nonsense is ridiculous.

You have now admitted that we shouldn't take anything you said seriously.

Did you really have the flu or a cold? :)

It's hardly unknown, and if it's unknown to you, I assume this means you don't believe in vaccines or medicines in general?

No flu shots or the flu, but I am fastidious about hand washing, using a hand sanitizer often, and the grocery cart sanitizer wipes while shopping. Also wear a pair of lightweight woolen gloves while shopping, which are removed when I get back into my car so I can apply the hand sanitizer that's stored in my vehicle.

The system works well enough that I haven't had a cold in years either.

  • Flu shots reduce your chance of contraction Flu
  • Flu shots reduce the chance that you will infect a more vulnerable person (children, elderly) much more likely to die from Flu
  • Flu shots don't provide 100% protection against Flu
  • Flu shots might make you feel a little ill
  • Flu shots are cheap and available
  • The more people get them, the less people will contract Flu and the slower it will spread

I don't necessarily judge people who don't get flu shots, but the vast majority of arguments against getting one (other than laziness) are pure paranoia, bereft of logic or fact. Like this:

Flu is airborne. Not enough.

Got the flu shot this year, needed to for work.

Got the aches and a bit of nerve sensitivity, but it didn't help when I didn't get a decent night sleep for several days after the flu shot.

I get a flu shot every year. Not just to reduce my chances of contracting the flu, but to decrease its spread to those who cannot get vaccinated.

That, and getting a free flu shot is a lot cheaper than missing 7+ days of work. The flu shot isn't 100% effective, but the cost-benifit analysis is clear nonetheless.

Not going to weigh in on the "flu shot makes you sick or not" debate. But do keep in mind that it is not entirely random chance whether or not people get sick after a flu shot. This is the time of year when two unrelated things happen. More people get [the flu] at this time of year (regardless of whether they've vaccinated). People get flu shots at this time of year.
Bingo. Correlation does not equal causation. Individuals typically opt to receive the flu vaccine at the beginning of flu season, yet it takes two weeks for the vaccine to take effect. In the interim, some people contract influenza and improperly blame it on the vaccine.

When you compare populations of individuals who received the flu vaccine versus a population who received no vaccine, the flu vaccine's efficacy is undeniable.

So, I take it that you haven't been vaccinated against anything else, either? If so, I'd say that your "self preservation instinct" isn't very good. And I hope that you never contract a bacterial infection that warrants antibiotic therapy, because I suppose you'll refuse those "unknown substances" too.

Flu is airborne. Not enough.

Avoid close contact with ill people:

From http://blogs.cdc.gov/niosh-science-blog/2013/01/15/catchingtheflu/

Experts think influenza may be spread to uninfected people in three ways: large-particle respiratory droplet transmission, airborne transmission, and contact (or fomite) transmission. Most experts think that influenza viruses are spread mainly by large-particle respiratory droplets produced when people infected with influenza cough, sneeze or talk. These droplets can land in the mouths or noses of people who are nearby or possibly be inhaled. Transmission via large-particle droplets requires close contact between source and recipient persons, because droplets do not remain suspended in the air and generally travel only a short distance (usually less than 2 meters) through the air. Airborne transmission (via small particles suspended in the air for extended periods of time) also is thought to be possible, although data are limited. Less often, a person might also become infected with influenza by touching a surface or object that has influenza virus on it and then touching his or her own mouth or nose.

I discovered from the nurse who gave me my flu shot, that they have live-virus flu nasal sprays for those who don't like shots, which can give you flu symptoms.

The flu shot can make some ill. It depends on your constitution.
Upset stomachs and joint aches are the main side effects I see.
Others get no side effects at all.
I can't recall seeing anyone get the flu straight after the jab but I have seen some rather nasty side effects.
