"The larger-screened foldable is not expected to sell as well because Kuo says it will be priced "considerably higher" than the foldable ‌iPhone‌."

*the non-foldable iPhone
“The larger-screened foldable” refers to the foldable iPad, which (allegedly) will be priced considerably higher than the foldable iPhone.

Ok, this is how I see it playing out with Apple's claim of a "creaseless fold" on both.
If they do introduce them in September of that year along with their regular lineups, Samsung always introduces their foldable a month before in August.
Since Samsung is providing Apple's "creaseless" display, I bet you Samsung then introduces the technology one month before on their devices before Apple introduces it in all of their glorious marketing hyperbole for their "magical creaseless" devices. :)

Isn’t it the same thing? Like what’s the point of a folding iPad? Like a folding phablet kinda makes sense, but a separare tablet? The folding phone already unfolds into a tablet.
It’s useful for piano scores or two-page PDF reading/reviewing. It’s basically the form factor of a spiral notebook.

If only 3.3% of Apple users are interested in this device, it may not stay around long & go like the iPhone mini… 😉

Small segments are usually if they make a lot of money and the technology developed can trickle down to the cheaper segments. The mini was in the cheap segment with a small market, that is bad for making money.

Not in the market for the fold but intrigued for sure. I am upgrading this year from the 14 PM to the 17 PM and then plan to upgrade my MBP when they redesign that. That's enough"computers" for my usage.

Pro Max is big enough for small tasks and isn't too big to handle. MBP will be for the rest.

However, down the road when it is more refined it might be the one that replaces my 17 PM.

depends

samsung have let others use better tech like display wise and camera sensor size. they let vivo have their telephoto big sensors but don't use it on their own phones

It won't be creaseless. They can say it all they want. It's not going to happen. You'll notice the crease right away and then forget all about it.

apple thinks 10 million units could be sold in 2026 for the foldable iphone so clearly they think there is a big market for this.

profit wise this will be huge for the company and glad they are finally going this route

foldable ipad will be interesting though and if it is an ipad or a mac type interface.

I know it’s going to happen but foldable devices just isn’t a product category that I see Apple ever releasing. I bet they’re only reluctantly getting into it.

they have only waited as it's took a while for foldables to be in a good position durabilty wise and display wise to meet apple's standards. crease wise generally they are good now where before they weren't.

They are really late to the party, foldable phones just keep getting better and Apple is behind. Glad we got that camera button though. What will we have this year, a Siri button?
Same button, you will just be allowed to reprogram it for Siri. It’s more ecological and minimalist this way

Apple plans to release a foldable iPhone in 2026, and will then follow it up with a foldable iPad in 2028, Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo said today.

Multiple sources have now confirmed that Apple is planning to release its first foldable iPhone in 2026, with the device coming as part of the iPhone 18 lineup. Launch timing on a larger-screened foldable device has been more uncertain.

A foldable iPhone is useless since it's bulky and you can't use it single-handedly. It's a huge step back in usability.
Flip iPhone—maybe an attractive option:

This foldable iPhone has real iPhone mini energy. A loud minority that follows every single article and swears up and down that they are going to be the first to buy one.

Meanwhile, the product is expected to cost more than both a better iPhone and a better iPad, and will be the first serious iPhone without Face ID in almost 10 years.

I’m cool with it existing as long as it doesn’t detract from the other products. But anything with the name iPhone that makes up less than 10% of sales is likely to get discontinued within two years.

I have yet to see anyone use a foldable phone for anything else than showing off that their phone is foldable. But I accept that this is where the market is going, and Apple has to follow.
It’s not where the market is going. At all. It’s just the only new idea that anyone has right now, so companies like Samsung that have absolutely nothing to lose are throwing sht at the wall to see what sticks. And nothing Samsung produces ever really sticks, so they keep doing it. The apple of years ago would not even have touched this gimmick.
