We don’t need a foldable iPhone. We just need the same iPhone with minor updates to it every year. Keep this design for another 10 years. Lol. /s

ive yet to see anyone at the locals shop unfold a phone to speak.
not a single person.

and the demo models in phone shops probably tell you why... C r Ea S eeeeeee.
Yuk.

instead of fitting a phone in a pocket, you double the width to fit it better?
we had the era of flip phones.
most phones seem to stay in hands as people walk around ignoring the traffic and other pedestrians...

I’m surprised people are so against a foldable iPhone. I actually quite liked the new foldable Moto Razr’s design. Gives that nostalgic feeling, but also making the device slightly more compact.
They want the same phone every year, with a slightly better camera. Apple users are just as complacent as Apple themselves. “Innovation” is a thing of the past.

Either Apple comes up with a revolution to fix the crease issue, or accepts it, display manufacturers aren't going to fix it seemingly. And let's not forget no foldable phone is cheap! And Apples tax will make even less so.
But the title is hilarious.. Apple may launch a foldable phone in 2027, or maybe never!! 😂

As an ex Apple groupie, I never would have dreamed it taking Apple so long to come up with a device as nice as the flip or fold. It's a shame would love to come back to Apple at some point.

I suggest to create macrumors survey „who wants foldable iPhone” ;D I bet 95% do not want it.

Yeah - the inevitable crease is just tooo un-Apple. It might look fine on day one, but after a month's worth of use, it'll look poor.

I can see Apple doing some sort of rollable display over a foldable. Pull the ends of the phone and the screen rolls out an inch or two more... That would at least avoid a fugly crease!

Still don't understand why rollable displays aren't more common - no folds or hinges and you only need 1 display rather than 2 (internal + external)

Apple should spend a couple more years developing this, then just cancel it. That seems to be the new Apple strategy.

I wonder why Cook cannot keep research projects secret? Oh, I know, because he wants the publicity without doing the work. If the publicity is bad, then he does not need to take a risk.

You don’t need a survey. Many on this forum don’t want anything other than a candybar style phone with flat/rounded edges and rounded corners. Evidence? Read the comments on this thread.
I, on the other hand, believe:

1. Until Apple can sell you an Apple solution for a folding phone problem we won’t see a folding iPhone.
2. Apple will want the device to be recognizable as a iPhone from a distance. Meaning the horizontal folders you see nowadays won’t fly. You fold a device today, and unless you’re a phone enthusiast, you can’t tell if it’s a Razr or Fold or Nubia or Honor Magic etc.
3. They haven’t figured out how to charge the Apple Tax markup on folding devices. If their non-foldables today at the top end hover around 2K I can’t imagine an entry level spec’s folding iPhone.
4. I’m sure they’re waiting for the pricing on these screens to drop even more to increase their ASP
5. The crease, even though it’s not as bad as people believe it to be, isn’t something Apple would want on their device.

Because it is not „by Apple“. People were making fun of VR Headsets for years until Apple released its version for 5 times the price and half the features. Now it’s suddenly the most magical thing ever that cannot even play Beat Saber
