Foldable iPhone Could Arrive in 2027 or Be Postponed Indefinitely

Apple should spend a couple more years developing this, then just cancel it. That seems to be the new Apple strategy.

I wonder why Cook cannot keep research projects secret? Oh, I know, because he wants the publicity without doing the work. If the publicity is bad, then he does not need to take a risk.

Or, and hear me out, maybe when you’re the biggest company in the world with thousands and thousands of employees across several countries, maybe keeping everything totally “secret” isn’t exactly possible.
Just maybe?
It’s not the 90s or even the 2000s anymore, and Apple even had plenty of leaking going on back then.

Those of you who don’t want a foldable iPhone and saying cancel it then don’t buy it. Stop crying about how it’s not needed or wanted.

It's ridiculous to think that Apple is somehow expected to provide a product of every conceivable form factor or permutation to everybody just because. They are just one company, they are allowed to say no to certain ideas, no matter how loudly some people here may claim they want one.

Wasn’t Johnny the guy that (reportedly) gave the entire Apple design team a presentation on every flaw about the original galaxy fold when it originally released?
Before concluding that foldable phones would never replace solid state candy bar style phones?

People saying that Apple will (or should) make foldable phones reminds me of back when people insisted that Apple should make netbooks... and then Apple released the iPad and the MacBook Air and people stopped caring about netbooks entirely.

Foldable phones are the netbooks of the 2020s.

Can Apple still get anything done? Everything gets cancelled or postponed lately. The only thing they still manage to do is to use some tricks to avoid regulations, but that will soon blow up in their faces too.

I would rather Apple admit something is half-baked and not worth pursuing further than try to shoehorn in a product or solution that's actually worse. Given the number of bugs that have been popping up perhaps refocusing on core product lines would be a good thing.

Did apple ever confirm development on a foldable or was it always a leaker making claims?

companies experiment all the time, sometimes for their own benefit or to test the capabilities of a potential competitor.

a foldable iPhone was always a bad idea and i don’t believe was ever going to be a real product. They have a higher potential of going with LGs roleup oled than a fold.

I can see no reason to have a foldable phone.

I don’t have a problem with the idea of a “foldable phone”, it’s the single folding display that pushes this to the “not worth the trouble” category for me. Just use two displays so there’s a shot at having a reasonably reliable and long-lived device. There’s no such thing as a free lunch, so if someone values the foldable form factor that much, the trade-off is 2 displays.

That said, after exclusively using iPhones since 1st gen, I’m not sure I would like going through the extra step of unfolding to use, but I can see others being ok with that.

Last year I swapped briefly to Samsung during which I has their Fold 5 for a time. I really enjoyed the form factor and would love to see this on iPhone, the convenience of an iPad mini-like interface and iPhone when folded is just great. Hoping they don’t hold out till ‘27, that’s seriously lagging.
