The Galaxy Z-Flip was the first Samsung foldable with a glass screen, most of them use a plastic screen protector on top of the glass.
It's a polymer-glass sandwich. The glass layer still won't fold, it just bends significantly. And you don't touch it, you touch a nasty-feeling plastic. It's really easy to break.

Foldable glass does not exist. It may never exist.

I don't think most people care if the glass is bending significantly instead of technically folding.

How about making regular iPhones that look like the 16e.

Make 3 sizes (Mini, Normal, Max) .. and then do whatever the heck you feel like with the Pro line Apple.

Folds, Flips, Flaps and Zaps
Patio Pavers, IMAX phones, Chris Nolan recorders, macOS in your pocket.. you name it ...

Go wild with the Pro.

Can you just please make Small/Medium/Large "normal iPhones" for the rest of us?
That would be great. I'll take the Large, you can have the Small, and everybody will be happy.

(Better than the 16e would be the SE form factor, with a home button and no notch.)

Right?

I don't understand why Tim won't do something like this.

Same model (basically) in 3 sizes ... and then do all the high end really expensive or alternative form factor and ideology stuff on the Pro side.

Also, give everyone great colors too.

Let's have some FUN with hardware again!

Look, we don’t need the usual “who even wants a foldable?” takes. Congrats you’re not into it. But some of us are actually pumped to see Apple finally try something different with the iPhone. Novel concept right? It’s not for everyone and that’s fine but spare us the dramatic eye rolls while we enjoy something that isn’t just the same rectangle for the 17th year in a row.

If they get the reliability up, it could well be my next purchase.

I've read some people want Apple to run iPadOS on this folding iPhone instead of iOS. I think what will happen is that Apple will likely produce a modified version of iOS 27 specifically to work with this folding iPhone.

Eagerly waiting for this device. Have always liked the Samsung Fold and I have the Flip. Might buy this once it launches. Looking forward to all the rumors in the coming months.

My OCD won’t allow seeing a ripple in the center of the screen. Every time my android neighbor shows me a pic, it is literally all I see. lol

What's interesting is that one of the Chinese foldables uses an anti reflective screen coating and the crease is barely noticeable which makes sense if you think about it.

Tim Apple: "Today we're announcing the Foldable iPhone. As you know, you can only fold a sheet of paper in half 7 times. This new iPhone can fold an astonishing 21 times! We're really excited about it, and we think you will be, too!"

Nope. 2027.
2026 is unrealistic for Apple.
At which point Samsung have 'ironed out all the creases'!

Without a Dex mode to go with it I don't see the productivity advantage of a foldable iPhone. The whole point of one is being able to replace every device, not just one or two.

Even in Android, we do not see many people using the foldable devices and I do not see people replacing their Windows or Linux computer with Samsung Dex. Most people just simply do not know that Dex exists. I even showed it to a colleague that insisted on having an Android device how to use it, but they simply were not interested in using Dex.

Flagship Apple phones don't offer enough for the price as is, let alone imagining how much they'll charge for a folding phone.

cue all the haters now... saying how ridiculous the foldable is :) but no, it doesnt have anything to do with price lol

Folding devices are more prevailant that you'd think. I've seen mums on the school run with flip phones and I just see at least one fold per day on my commute. Yes, They're not as popular as regular handsets but they are an area of growth.

I agree with Dex not being that popular. Why replace your pc with a phone when all your data is in the cloud and you do most of your work in a browser anyway? Most companies want you to buy more than one device and doing so removes battery anxiety.

Until Dex runs actual desktop apps its not going to replace your computer any more than an iPad with a monitor can.

And yet, there are several people that have replaced a computer with an iPad. There are desktop class applications on the iPad that allow people to replace computers with iPads. Dex and Android are not well done. So saying that it will not replace a computer when for many people it has is incorrect.

Many companies have downgraded from real applications to websites so that the client does not matter.
Folding devices are sold enough for them to keep selling them. You would have to have enough disposable income in order to afford the devices and I am around students and professors daily so that would be a limiting factor in which people would purchase these phones. I guess in Mountain View California, these phones would be used a lot more than in the rest of the country.
You would replace a computer with a smartphone with all of your data in the cloud because it would be easier to use while mobile than a notebook computer where you have to find a desk in order to effectively and efficiently use the computer. The same would be for using a tablet computer over using a notebook computer, but you have a larger screen. If you just need organization and productivity applications, then those are available on all devices that work extremely well. Do smartphones and tablets do 100% of what a notebook or desktop computer does, no. Notebook computers when introduced did not do the same things as desktop computers, but today they do. Neither did tablets and smartphones when they were introduced. With the downgrade to websites and the increased computing power of smartphones and tablets they can today for most people's needs because most people's needs are basic enough that smartphones and tablets can perform all what they need. There are only a few use cases where a computer is still required because the software is not available on a smartphone and tablet.
