And yet, there are several people that have replaced a computer with an iPad. There are desktop class applications on the iPad that allow people to replace computers with iPads. Dex and Android are not well done. So saying that it will not replace a computer when for many people it has is incorrect.
I into that an iPad cant replace a computer for a lot of people.

The people who say an iPad with Stage Manager can't replace a computer are usually the same who say that if the iPad had Dex it could. When the reality is that for most of them Dex can't replace their computer unless it runs actual desktop apps.

Many companies have downgraded from real applications to websites so that the client does not matter.
Folding devices are sold enough for them to keep selling them. You would have to have enough disposable income in order to afford the devices and I am around students and professors daily so that would be a limiting factor in which people would purchase these phones. I guess in Mountain View California, these phones would be used a lot more than in the rest of the country.
You would replace a computer with a smartphone with all of your data in the cloud because it would be easier to use while mobile than a notebook computer where you have to find a desk in order to effectively and efficiently use the computer. The same would be for using a tablet computer over using a notebook computer, but you have a larger screen. If you just need organization and productivity applications, then those are available on all devices that work extremely well. Do smartphones and tablets do 100% of what a notebook or desktop computer does, no. Notebook computers when introduced did not do the same things as desktop computers, but today they do. Neither did tablets and smartphones when they were introduced. With the downgrade to websites and the increased computing power of smartphones and tablets they can today for most people's needs because most people's needs are basic enough that smartphones and tablets can perform all what they need. There are only a few use cases where a computer is still required because the software is not available on a smartphone and tablet.
Im always a little jealous when I see them. I work in a dust ridden workshop and my pockets are full of it. It's never but a foldable because it might get damaged.
This said I do often have to travel for work and I'd replace my iPad Pro with a Pixel Fold in a shot if it was ip68

Well for many people the iPad has replaced a computer. Deb and by extension Android could not because Android does not have desktop processing power nor desktop applications. Most people only use computers for accessing email, social media, and word processing. All of those can be done on smartphones and tablets and do not require computers.

If someone would give me an Android device it would either end up in an industrial shredder or collect dust. I feel sorry for anyone with any Android device. All the malware.

Dude, what malware?! It's only really needs like me that side load anything and even then you can pretty much trust GitHub repos and APKMirror.com. Been using them for years. If you're talking Google's profiling I don't use Chrome and I make sure ai use ADB+ like any sensible web user should. (Apple collect just as much data as Google do, they just use it to develop and sell people new hardware every year as opposed to advertising space)

The hardware though? There are great devices all over the place. You want to ignore your Samsung's and Google's though as these devices are boring. For my money Nothing make the best Android devices followed by old stalwart Motorola.

Look at the Verizon data report, more malware available for Android than even for Windows. None of the Android device manufacturers make anything interesting at all. Nothing is nothing worth looking at because it runs Android, primarily due the poor interface design and security of the devices.

Yes I know that the iPad can be many people's only computer.

Malware still needs to find a way onto a device. A user would have to give the app express permission to install and the general public have been conditioned to not really install anything outside of the Play Store or the App Store. Plenty of dodgy apps sneak past the automated App Store submission process too so it's not just Android.

Honestly it's not really a problem at all. The only malware I know people willingly install on their devices are apps by some dodgy company called Meta

It is how Android is designed, malware can be installed through drive-by downloads. Google is attempting to improve the security of Android, but failing miserably. There have been several projects to make Android secure from organizations like BlackBerry and the United States Air Force and there have been no updates on those projects because you cannot make Android secure enough.

Not without user consent though. And side loading is locked behind a per-app permission. One cannot hijack another.

If in the past you had an Android phone that got infected by malware through no fault of your own then I completely understand why you'd never touch the platform again, but your comments sound less anecdotal.

Has my phone accidentally downloaded something in the past? Yes. But this is because I was actively looking for an APK file myself on a less than secure website. The fault was mine. In any case the only app I let side load things onto my phone is my 3rd party file browser so I have to instigate the installation and I'm not stupid enough to click on something I don't recognise. In the bin it goes.

Security on Android is like anything else in life: vigilance. The police are there to catch people after the fact but I take responsibility for securing my home.

I do not believe that Android can be sufficiently secured, and as such would not be allowed on any network or organization that I would be responsible for securing. I will not certify that Android is secure in any stretch of the imagination. I am glad that your opinion is that it is as secure as anything else, but that can only be proven through peer-reviewed published research.

If your job is to oversee corporate devices I can completely understand why you’d only trust iPhones. Come to think of it, I can’t think of one MDM at my place (that employs 5000+ people) that isn’t Apple!

I don’t believe the general consumer has anything to fear from Android, but if you’re discussing corporate secrets and so on its best to stick with Apple.

Beyond intense media pipelines, specialised BIM processing or software development there isn’t much that can’t be done in a web browser these days. Indeed you can build and deploy an entire Android app from the web if you so choose. Admin work doesn’t need anything special and as a Photographer I find an iPad (or a foldable Android) fine for processing images.

For most people their phone replaced their laptop for civilian computing needs.

My OCD won’t allow seeing a ripple in the center of the screen. Every time my android neighbor shows me a pic, it is literally all I see. lol
Because you have likely only seen a fold 5 or fold 6.

This foldable will have no visible crease.

Just the occasional banking malware that crops up ever six months or so. As I told some once that the reason the government will not allow personal iPhones around is mostly like due to the fact that if the owner has set it up properly, it cannot be forensically analyzed because of the encrypted backups that are set. Not impossible, it a lot more secure than is possible with Android. Android you enable USB mode and can get a full backup of the system. With encrypted local backup, you can only use mobile backup to get data from the device and it is encrypted. It requires a trusted computer to enable and disable the encrypted local backup. I have submitted a feature request that it should be turned on by default.
