Foldable iPhone Duo Will Start at $2,000, Won't Launch Until at Least October

I don’t think it will be called the iPhone Duo. For a company like Apple, especially with the rumored launch approaching, you’d expect them to secure domain names related to the product name well in advance. However, if you visit iphoneduo.com, it currently redirects to an adult website. That makes “iPhone Duo” seem like an unlikely name.

Oops, lol. Whoever fed Gurman this “leak” is busted. Can’t believe Gurman or the publisher as big as Bloomberg didn’t think to check the obvious.

The iPhone 17 Pro Max starts at around $1,770 in Sweden, compared with roughly $1,300 in San Francisco including taxes. If Apple launches a foldable “Duo” or “Ultra,” that could easily mean a starting price of $2,400 or more here.

At that price, I would expect it to replace both my iPad and MacBook Pro. Unfortunately, I’m pretty sure it won’t.

I really hope Apple introduces a version of iOS specifically designed for the foldable form factor, rather than simply giving us the same iPhone experience on a larger screen. Even basic split-screen multitasking is still missing from the iPhone, while Android has offered it for years.

It’s not enough for Apple to release the “world’s most powerful foldable” if the software can’t take advantage of that power.

Let the foldable behave more like an iPad Pro when unfolded—and at the same time, bring more macOS-like capabilities to iPadOS. If Apple expects people to spend well over $2,000 on a device, it should be capable of replacing more than just a phone.

Gonna sell like crazy in Asia! It'll be premium status symbol like a Hermes handbag. Not sure I believe the Duo name, Apple went crazy to make it not seem like 2 screens. I expect something to play on the Chinese market, and Ultra just fits.

How about instead of folio they shorten it to iPhone Lio as a wild card?

Dew-oh doesn't sound appealing in any language. "Eye-fone dew-oh." iPhone Fold rolls off the tongue and includes build in alliteration. It is a mistake to call it anything else.

I think you are gonna be disappointed. They are going to sell really well. When people hold it, they will want it. Even if you can’t afford it now, if you want it, you’ll eventually buy one.

Unlike the iPhone Air, the form factor actually provides new use cases. I’m not going to buy one until the cameras are better and its not as wide when closed, but I have tried several Android foldables and there is a market for these as they mature….. also a really fast growing one in China.

Depends on what you mean by really well. It will be in competition for the lowest sales numbers in the iPhone lineup, maybe outselling the Air initially, before slowing down to sit in its niche. This is ok. It's absurdly expensive, and will have a good profit margin for Apple. I think it will meet their expectations, so it won't be a failure, but it's not going to match any of the other models, except maybe the Air, for sales.

glass breaks at that bend degree ...and if the exterior is plastic then whats the point...so no, at least not at this price point...remember that Apple said no to sapphire crystal because of the dimming displays but also the price

Ok, so I misunderstood your point. Are you saying that the fact that there is ultra-thin glass in the folding display is irrelevant under the outer layer of plastic? If so, I'm in full agreement with you!
