Totally not interested in a foldable iPhone, not even when it's 13-mini sized (highly unlikely). I'm only interested in a new mini. Either that or I'm going to move to a FairPhone with /e/OS as operating system.

I was looking at the FairPhone
Isn't it basically a 16e/16 size wise?

Any reason you'd not just stick with an iPhone at that point?

(assuming device size was a key reason for being on the 13 mini, like it is for me)

Well, this is true based on how they treat iPadOS.

1. Added Phone app
2. Added multi window support to all iPad

This means, folded iPhone, unfolded iPad

And that’s why they don’t expand architecture to MacOS apps

And that’s why they hide 2017 ad iPad as PC

All design for “iPad PC” goes to Vision and decision to preserve bond between iOS and iPadOS

For that

That’s the vision, ok, but how long they implement that

And iPhone Air is a test about tech behind one unfolded side

It doesn’t. Folded it’s wider and thicker than a Pro Max, and heavier than a Pro. The only thing is that it’s shorter than a mini.

Source? Is that you bu??..

This will be definitely on my "Must-try-out"-list! 👍
All the Samsung folds and flips i had in hand had the effect, that i didn't want to hand them back... 🤣

But you did, tho, right? So that’s good..

$2000? LOL

There is no phone on earth, regardless of features or materials, that will convince me to spend $2000. They're just not worth it.

There’s no convincing needed when it’s something you pretty much must have…

Classic first reply. It’s the good ol’ nobody wants a foldable iPhone. It’s like 1% of the market. Yep…just like nobody wanted a phone with no physical keyboard or no one needs a camera on a phone. Give it a minute, champ.

I wouldn’t call it a classic first reply…more like “typical” smh

Eagerly waiting to see the foldable from Apple. The device should definitely have a 48MP main camera if it is not going to have a zoom lens as then it can be used for crop zoom. Disappointing though when the Samsung Fold has a zoom lens today.

Another case in point of Apple entering something a little later on while others are already fairly ahead…but it’s Apple so it’ll be a million times *^%#*% betta, bro…ugh probably day one on this fold with all intentions of returning it…just gotta get my mits on the damn thing.

They will probably brand it Apple Fold, or similar, not iPhone.

Def iPhold haha I see someone already said it but I def thought it before seeing that.

iPhablet lol

E OS?!?! Is it in anyway tied to android/google?? Interesting…I’ll def look into this. I tell ppl all the time, “you don’t HAVE to have iPhone just not creepy ass android…look into it I think Linux has a phone operating system…”

They prob don’t look into it smh

Droiders and their need to control everything and know-it-all etc.

…everytime I go in on how goddamn invasive and leech-like Google is and how the US govt is looking to smash droid and chrome etc. they ALWAYS go…all the companies are tracking us, just give it all up then…

They’re so frightened and scared, these little little ppl : (

I really want an iPhone Fold so I can have an iPhone + iPad at all times. But I DON'T want to compromise on the camera. I buy a Pro Max because the camera is an important part. Paying $2500 and not getting the best camera could be a deal breaker for me.

Too bad you can't get a Huawei in 'Merica, because the phone with the best camera is the Huawei Pura 70 Ultra. It might get overtaken by the newer Huawei Pura 80 Ultra.

Must have? How is a foldable a "must have"?

If that's the only price range that Apple has in the future, I'll go elsewhere. I have no loyalty. There will always be lower-cost phones.

Not saying it’s a must have, although it could very well skyrocket to be that…but rather if it were a must have for you..

and yes I agree with not being brand loyal to a fault…open minded is certainly best…just not at the sake of privacy and personal safety and peace of mind…

Not going to be interested in a folding phone until (A) it's an iPhone and (B) they're on like their third generation. No interest in dealing with "almost working" hinges / bending screens.

I must be one of the last people on earth who only uses my phone for calling, messaging, email checking, and surfing the web while my wife shops...

I basically use mine for messages, calls, maps and music. Everything else I do on my laptop or desktop.

Why?... a flip really offers no benefits. It folds smaller but is more chunky. At least with a fold you get an iPhone + iPad.
It does. The limiting dimension to make a phone disappear into your front pocket (by which mean you don't notice it's there) isn't the thickness, it's the height.

A perfect example of a form factor that disappears into a front pocket, even jeans, is a men's bifold wallet. It's a design that's stood the test of time. Mine is 115 mm x 90 mm x 20 mm. Something like a Samsung Z-flip is even smaller: 85 mm x 72 mm x 15 mm. The thickness isn't a issue.

That's what I'd really like to see Apple do with a foldable: Rather than (or in addition to) offering a large screen in a package that, when folded, is close to a standard phone, also offer a normal screen in a package that folds to be much smaller than a standard phone.

Plus women like the Z-Flip because they can talk on the phone when it's folded while comfortably holding it in one hand.

A new rumor today surfaced about Apple's book-style foldable iPhone, set to be released next year, and this time it's about the cameras.

In a previous report, industry analyst Ming-Chi Kuo said he expects the foldable iPhone (or "iPhone Fold" for short) to include a dual-lens rear camera, but Kuo provided no other specifics. Now, prolific Weibo-based leaker Digital Chat Station claims that those dual lenses will be 48 megapixels each.

This shouldn't come as too much of a surprise. The current iPhone 16 Pro models feature a 48-megapixel Main camera and a 48-megapixel Ultra Wide camera, and it would make sense for Apple to ensure the premium foldable's rear lenses are at least equivalent to its Pro models to justify that rumored ~$2,000 price tag.

Digital Chat Station did not provide additional lens specifications, but if Apple wants to maintain some feature parity with its high-end iPhone models, the foldable will have a 24mm main camera with a ƒ/1.78 aperture and second-generation sensor-shift optical image stabilization.

The foldable's main camera will also likely be capable of iPhone 16 "Fusion" – so-called because the system combines the high-resolution sensor with smart in-sensor cropping to deliver multiple high-quality focal lengths – like 24mm, 28mm, and 35mm – from a single main camera. Don't expect a telephoto lens though, likely due to space constraints.

According to Kuo, the foldable will also have a front-facing camera for both folded and unfolded states. Other sources have claimed that the inner display features an under-screen selfie camera, while the outer display – in the device's folded state – will have a hole punch-style front-facing camera.

Aside from cameras, here are some other foldable iPhone features we've heard from sources plugged into Apple's supply chain:
Another point of note regarding today's rumor: Digital Chat Station claims that the latest inner display Apple is testing is approximately 7.6 inches rather than 7.8 inches, albeit with the same resolution.

That seems unlikely. Analyst Jeff Pu said in March that the device had entered the New Product Introduction (NPI) phase at Foxconn, and adjusting the display size during or after the NPI phase is virtually unheard of – especially for a company like Apple working with Foxconn. Kuo, who previously corroborated the 7.8-inch display dimension, also said the device is expected to enter production in September-October this year, which is awfully close to start introducing changes.

An exact launch date is currently unknown, but both Kuo and Pu say mass production is planned for the second half of 2026. Bloomberg reporter Mark Gurman has also said he expects the device to be launched next year.

Not interested in fold: no single hand operation. But I would buy a flip.

What about when taking into account the thickness of squeezing both an iPhone 16 Pro Max, and a bifold wallet, into the same front jeans pocket?

My digital calipers show that my wallet is typically about 28mm thick (bad habit of carrying too many cards I don't really use often enough). I have a variety of Levi styles and product lines, and this combination works well with some of them, but not some others, where the pockets seem to be a bit less deep, and so the end of the phone projects up above the pocket line, and the width (diameter?) of the pocket is also smaller, so the two items are uncomfortably tightly pressed against each other and me.

For my tighter jeans, an iPhone Air might help, at least to some degree, though since its height is anticipated to be essentially the same as a Pro Max, maybe I'd still see it sticking up above the pocket line on some of my jeans, though at least it might not be as tight.
