I really want a foldable, but not at those prices. I can't justify the expense and the device doesn't really replace multiple devices (for me) in the same way the iPhone did.
Maybe in 10 years.
Maybe in 10 years.
Foldables really are unwieldy and awful to use. I’ve never understood the appeal, especially when you add in the plastic screen (that feels horrible) and the atrocious crease. I’m still glad Apple is going to release one for those who want it and to stay competitive, and I trust that they’ll do at least as good a job of it as Samsung and Oppo.As long as Apple offer a Pro Max size iPhone, I will avoid folding iPhones like the plague. I absolutely do not need a device that folds into the size of an iPad while I am going about my daily business. I also won't be paying the silly money Apple will undoubtedly charge for a folding device. More than happy with a Pro Max in my pocket and an iPad at home.
I’m calling it at £1999If it's more than £1800, it'll be dead in the water by the time it reaches the market.
Still thinner than the original iPhone.5.64mm x 2 would be pretty fat...
Cue the same people hating on the Air hating on the Fold because all they want for the future of iPhone is the form factor of an unwieldy brick.
Of course. Sites and videos need clicks.Prepare yourself for all the complaints when this is launched.
As suggested by some people, it might be a combo of an iPhone (outside screen) and an iPad mini (inside screen) with a mix of iOS and iPadOS. Maybe iFoldOS ?I'm waiting to see what unique features Apple will use to make a foldable device feel necessary. If they enter this market, they will probably introduce groundbreaking use cases no one else has thought of, which is precisely why they are 'late'.
I’m thinking this will be presented as, essentially, an iPad in your pocket. Much like the original iPhone price announcement when they were like “oh, people spend 300 on a smartphone and 200 on an iPod … 500 sounds reasonable.” 2000 will be the sum of a phone and an iPad in the pitch. So, call it a folding iPad if you want. A phone that expands to a tablet, or a tablet that shrinks to a phone. Why is it always a folding phone? There clearly isn't a huge market for people that desire more screen real estate on a phone who wouldn't just go with a Max/Plus size.
A folding iPad makes much more sense. It would be much more portable, wouldn't require a third screen or external selfie camera like a phone would, could keep FaceID and is just an extra size/form factor within a category already dominated by Apple.
if it allows me to ditch iPad, I'm in.
I suspect the removal of Face ID is an indicator the two sides will be thinner than the Air. How much thinner who knows, but with two sides to play with they’ll have more wriggle room for the battery.
