As long as Apple offer a Pro Max size iPhone, I will avoid folding iPhones like the plague. I absolutely do not need a device that folds into the size of an iPad while I am going about my daily business. I also won't be paying the silly money Apple will undoubtedly charge for a folding device. More than happy with a Pro Max in my pocket and an iPad at home.
Agree.

A foldable iPhone falls into the same category as Vision Pro for me.

It’s exciting, it’s interesting, it’s well presented and it does cool things. It has very little use case!!!!

For those that need to be seen with the latest and greatest, excellent. For those that need to get jobs done in a timely manner, no improvements whatsoever over current tech.

I was on a plane yesterday, and the person next to me was watching a movie on a folding phone. The square-ish display meant that the video playback wasn’t noticeably bigger than it would have been on my Pro Max.

Personally I don’t really see the benefit from a ‘book fold’ design. A ‘Z-fold’ makes much more practical sense when open, though of course it would be thicker when folded.

Watching a movie isn't the only use case for a foldable.

You get massively more real estate for all kinds of productivity apps, for websites, for running multiple apps side by side, for reading etc.

I personally would like a device that isn't much bigger than a regular iPhone but still unfolds into a small tablet. I don't want or need a Pro Max.

I'm definitely intrigued by the form factor. But as others already mentioned here, it will likely be extremely expensive in the beginning. My guess is north of 2000 USD. Personally I would prefer to own a regular smartphone plus an iPad at this price.
Same, about preferring a regular smartphone + iPad. And I mean that in general, not just in regards to the price.

For me personally there's no situation in which bringing an iPad mini is so difficult that I need a combined device like this. If it cost the same and was no larger than a regular smartphone, fine, of course I wouldn't mind it. But at twice the price, extra bulk, and the amount of risk for theft, damage and general clumsiness that a daily driver is unavoidably exposed to, the cons completely eclipse the pros for me.

There are also so many ways in which it's simply much more practical to indeed have two devices.

Meanwhile, happy for the folks who do get into foldables. And I can definitely see how Apple feels the need to be part of this market, given that the Galaxy Fold 7 seems to be selling in the millions. But personally I'll happily stick to iPhone + iPad until there's a foldable that doesn't cost significantly more than my daily driver phone, is no more bulky when folded, and has no noticeable display crease when unfolded.

What I'm really dying to get right now is an OLED iPad mini.

I genuinely can’t wait for this product, I’ve bought most of Samsungs Flips and Folds and they have been good…..but android etc.

Looking forward to seeing what Apples watch and wait approach will yield this time……definitely my next Apple purchase.

My friend who normally buys a new Pro Max almost every year (because he can write it off) decided to pass on the 17 Pro Max and wait for the iPhone Fold.

I personally have no interest in one though. However, give us a Flip and I’d be tempted. I’d still want a telephoto lens though.

If they used a 120mpx sensor on an Ultrawide you could get that down to a 3x crop. You’d only need one camera to do the current job of 3.

It will be another Vision Pro, extremely expensive and after a couple of months after launch Apple will be ordering the reduction in manufacturing numbers for the device, because of it's pricing.

Stop quoting Gurman, he brings nothing new. We’ve mentioned this many times over the past week on these forums.

It’s very obvious the Air is preceding the Fold with its design. The fold will be two airs and the new premium product. That’s why the air has the premium titanium material with the polished finish reserved for the premium iPhones.
The Pro is relegated as a sturdy bulky do all pocket computer for geeks.
Why? Because the fold will be the most expensive in the lineup.
Perhaps only for a year. Remember the 20th anniversary iPhone isn't going to be a foldable (if what we've been hearing is accurate).

First of all, this story is just shocking. SHOCKING! I was 100% expecting the fold to be more along the lines of two iPhone Pros joined together by a hinge.

Second, anyone who thinks this won’t sell - it will sell. You’re getting a phone and iPad mini in one device, and for many people that will be enough to validate the purchase. I think it would be really nice if Apple could get the price down to $1899 rather than $1999, but I guess we’ll see.

It won’t be $2500 for the base. Too high, and I think the Vision Pro has shown Apple that there are limits to what people will spend on cool tech.

I'm definitely looking forward to returning to the Apple ecosystem next year once the Apple Fold is released!

Yes, however that battery or batteries will also have to support three ProMotion screens instead of the current one.

The rumoured dual camera setup is welcome news, of course, and I guess there will be a second speaker too. Loosing FaceID, however, will be a pity, IMO.
Good point on the additional screens/sizing. I agree on the Face ID, it’s just a much better experience than Touch ID, but a foldable doesn’t interest me so I won’t be getting one to miss it at least!

I get that. And I too would like an iPhone that can morph into an iPad. 🙂

I just think that a square aspect is only marginally beneficial where as 3:2 is much more useful.

I am waiting for youtubers with clickbait video titles like "I welded two iPhone Airs to get 2000$ iPhone Fold earlier than you!"
