Btw just went to an Apple store. 11am on a Wednesday didn't think there'd be many people there. Packed. What the heck. People must be bugging about the tariffs

If Apple release a foldable iPhone, probably It will not comes as a foldable screen factor but with 2 separate screens joined by some kind of hinge system.
An iPhone DS? People would grab their torches and pitchforks seeing how the competition demonstrated that a single display is possible. People have a loftier expectation from Apple than a dual screen. More so if you factor in the probable pricing.

He means something similar to the old Surface Duo.

Just put a better screen on the iPad mini and give it telephony. I’d be happy with that.

iPad mini would be perfect with a 120Hz ProMotin screen, and if Apple could see their way clear of allowing one to make/take phone calls and use the tablet to set-up/maintain an Apple watch, that would be ideal...

The Light Phone lll looks quite compelling...!

I mean, just last year they were saying the new iPad Pros with OLED would cost nearly $2000 and that was wrong. Hope this is wrong too, but there is market precedent for it. That being said, there is no way Samsung sells these foldable at large scale and Apple is all about large scale.

I’m a pretty big Apple fan and I just don’t see a world where I could justify over $2000 on an iPhone. Maybe $1499 for a smaller foldable with 256GB. But even that depends on exactly what it has. If the camera is compromised then I probably wouldn’t. If it’s thick and heavy then that makes it a hard sell too. If it’s not water proof and has durability issues with the display then I just really don’t think so.

Maybe in 10 years when they can get the price down (assuming tariffs eventually go away and the world heals) and there aren’t a bunch of compromises. Otherwise I’m content with having g a separate iPad, which I also upgrade much less often than my iPhone. I don’t find myself needing an iPad when out and about very often if at all. Would be kinda handy when traveling but then I already have my carryon backpack which has my iPad, MBP, AirPods, Sony mirrorless camera, some lenses, DJI Mini drone, and battery packs inside.

For now $2200 + thick + heavy + limited camera + no waterproofing seems like a pretty bad deal to just get an iPad mini in your iPhone.

Yes, I know. Expectations from people is that it will be one screen--like on the Samsung Z Fold--but better. You have a taste of how we react when the product *cough* Apple Intelligence *cough* doesn't live up to the hype.
Unlike an AI Siri, Apple hasn't said anything about a folding phone so the hype surrounding the iPhonebook has been created by the rumormill which invents unrealistic expectations so they can profit from it. Nothing can live up to this kind of hype.

The people who are most excited about a folding iPhone understand these devices and the compromises needed to achieve that goal. It's the people who have no interest in them that will rabble rabble the loudest about how it doesn't meet their unachievable expectations. People like this are never happy because complaining about something they would never buy feeds their dopamine addition.

What hype is there? How is it unrealistic?

The only thing I've seen is that they are likely releasing a folding phone, it will be a "fold" rather than a "flip" and it will cost a lot of money, which does imply that it will be better (somehow) than any other iphone ever (specs wise).

I assume it will mostly be just like the recent android folds out there with the screen and hinge and crease.

This all seems very fair and safe. I don't see anything unrealistic.

Agreed

Where it’s likely to beat Android foldables is aspect ratio. Which is the number 1 issue with current foldables

Camera wise spec wise pro max will be better but everything else foldable will likely be stronger. There’s certainly something there to make it higher price than other models
