Day 1 buy. $2500 is what I make on a slow Tuesday between 12:00pm and 12:03pm. Heck $2,500 is what I spend when I go to Costco hungry.

I’m sure the iPhone Fold will be a credible device. I’m also sure Apple has a very good idea of how many they can sell at that price. While the Fold won’t be for me, I’m happy those who want and can use such a device will have it available. And some of its technology is likely to filter down to lower models. Now, if only Apple would offer an iPhone Flip, we’d be talking.
My outlook on foldable smartphones has changed dramatically now that I have three months experience with my Z Fold7. I find it highly useful and enjoyable.

I now have great interest in the upcoming iPhone Fold. The crease factor is a nonexistent issue since I've found it's something I easily adapted to.

More importantly is incorporating the high density battery that's being considered. I find my usage is greater than the time of use with my iPhone 16 Pro Max. If my Z Fold7 had a longer lasting battery, that would be a very valuable feature.

While cameras aren't on the top of my priorities, if Apple puts in better cameras than the competition, that would also be an advantage.

Even though foldables are expensive, Apples marketing expertise will overcome that objection and sell their iPhone Fold very successfully.

If done right, I’m a buyer.

No, Apple did not “solve” the crease problem. Samsung did.

Apple only keeps tabs on the display suppliers and ask for first dibs on whatever they come up with. They don’t do any of the engineering themselves.
Samsung did not do the work on this and doesn't have access to the parts that make it possible. Not sure why you can't just read the article?

Apple does not involve themselves with bleeding edge engineering.

If it’s simple engineering with many solutions, they might involve themselves. They cannot do bleeding edge, high IQ engineering like solving the crease problem. That’s strictly a supplier engineering problem.
Apple's engineers ARE hardware engineers. I mean, I know you throw around high IQ like it means something but there's no such thing as high IQ engineering, High IQ Person. The "supplier" that solved this problem is Apple, the part of the company responsible for Liquid Metal. Apple has access to and tests everything out there, even components that do not exist, and they will tweak or change things as needed. I guess you think Apple's engineering departments play Tetris with phone parts and do marketing all day?

Well I will say i will likley get one, but I don't like the term "Fold" seems too Samsungy and already been used. Call it somthing more Apple. Think different.

My word, these prices....

Inflation is high, but this is getting silly... shelling out $ 2500 (probably € 3000 incl. tax in EU) for a phone you'll replace again in 1-2 years.

There is a highend market that will buy the best iphone out there if it is meaningfully better than the last year's model; regardless if it costs $1000 or $3000. Globally that market is not small, so I remain optimistic on the prospects of this phone: it will help Apple extract significantly more revenue from the same target group. Today they are leaving money on the table with Pro Max.

I just do not see the use case for this phone especially for $2,000-$2,500. What do you do with it? Just watch videos on a bigger screen?

Of course some people will buy it, but most people can't afford this phone.
I really don’t understand this point of view… it will replace iPad for a lot of people, it’s that simple!

So the 3 break out features are:
1. a 24 MP user-facing camera. This is a stupid feature. The reason why we haven't really gone higher resolution for front-facing cameras is because they aren't useful. It's used for selfies and video conferencing. Existing resolutions are enough here.
2. Fixed the crease issue. -> Genuinely useful and potentially novel.
3. New battery technology with higher battery life -> provided by a 3rd part Korean manufacturer (Samsung, cough cough). Highly unlikely to be limited to Apple products.

So there's really only 1 exclusive and novel feature - the crease. I don't have any experience with existing foldables so don't know if this is just a cosmetic or an actual usability issue.

I'm interested to see if this type of product will eliminate the smaller formal iPads.

TBH, despite my skepticism above I like this potential product.

Firstly Apple have been working on this for over 7 years, secondly that’s NOT the name. It’s the name that Macrumors and Bloomberg have created.
Which company currently has this type of product on the market? How long have they had a similar product on the market? Do you legitimately think they only started working on that product months before its release? Are you aware that Samsung also provides the displays for many of these devices (quite possibly apple's rumoured device as well).Kinda hard for apple to work on this type of device longer than the manufacturer of the displays without their own capacity to create displays - which, notably, they don't have.
It's okay to admit that not every idea ever originated in apple.

Day one purchase for me. It’s an iPhone and an iPad mini all in one! If the software is done right, this will be a big hit. Doesn’t matter what it costs, people want them. Samsung Fold owners don’t say they’re terrible and keep upgrading. So if Apple can improve on the tech from version one, it’s going to help. I will gladly pay $3k for a device I can use all the time that I can fit in my pocket yet unfold it into an iPad mini size.

Well, when the competitors had already tripled the fold nearly a year ago, hasn't the train already left for Apple?

Arguably, this is what you should have said. Touch ID has a lot more downsides in day to day use.
#fakenews.

Face ID fails several times per day (sun, glasses, cap, etc), and you’re forced to re-enter password anyways, so what’s the point using it! Never had that issue with Touch ID.

Are there any distinct features so people around me know I have the most expensive iPhone ever? To pair with my Watch Ultra and AirPods Pro

This will definitely not be the iPhone for me for a number of reasons, but I am excited to see it finally come to fruition! Hopefully, if it does well enough (and for $2500 I don’t imagine is expecting to sell a ton of em) Apple will experiment with some other foldable designs. Specifically, I’d love a more traditional flip-phone style foldable, like the Samsung Flip.
