Foldable 'iPhone Ultra' Could Be Missing These 5 Key Features Despite $2,000 Price Tag

Why does it need to be better than a Pro Max? the Pro Max will still be the flagship device that appeals to a wider market, Apple can't be lackimg with that device. The fold will likely be like the Air in that it offers something different. That doesn't mean it needs to best specs.

I'm just saying the name "Ultra" in other categories, like the M chips, Apple Watch, usually mean they have the best features and no compromises.

I've owned ten foldables and two flips to date.

Z Fold 3, 4, 5, 6 - Z Flip 4 - Pixel Fold (Original), Pixel 9 Pro Fold - OnePlus Open - Honor Magic V3 Global - Oppo Find N5

I currently own the Z Fold 7 and the Z Flip 7 FE, which I use as my backup phone. I've never had any issues with the cases I've received with the foldables I've bought that included them, nor did I have any issues with the three cases I tried that I bought with store credit for the Pixel 9 Pro Fold and the Z Fold 5, and the Z Flip 7 FE I think it was. I don't keep cases on my phones, because I think it takes away from the design and I don't like how they add bulk and weight. But, I have tested them and didn't have any issues.

I quite like that this device is dividing an opinion. Everything doesn't need to be for everyone.

Just hoping that the price is right. ~£1800 and I can see this device doing well. I'm now pretty far removed from the desire to upgrade every single year so £1800 over the course of 3-4 years seems pretty reasonable to me as long as it's a good product out of the gate.

No, foldable phones just cost a lot. The screen, the hinge etc.
I bet Apple won't be charging more than what they usually do.
Look at the discounted price of Samsung's Galaxy Z Fold7. And they've sold millions.

On the other hand, Apple's Vision Pro needed to be sold way cheaper to establish a new mass market, but Apple doesn't do that.

Which is why i think $1999 is conservative.
Apple always know how to show leadership when it comes to breaking new grounds in pricing.

I abhor MagSafe and the action button so much that if this phone lacks both, I might consider getting it. I do hope it has stereo speakers and a telephoto lens though. I rarely use the .5 lens on my 14
pro max.

That's an impressive resumé! How is it with the Z Flip 7 specifically, with the full front display? I have a case for the 6 that includes surrounds for the camera bumps, but on the 7 that would actually cover usable screen space. Ironically I would prefer less usable space, more like the 3 had with just room for notifications, but we're going in quite a different direction!

Never buy first gen? So according to you no very first iPhone? No gen1 Touch ID button? No 6 plus (first big screen I think), no iPhone X, no XS Max, no watch 1, no og AirPod…

What? That doesn't make any sense. Never buy a first gen Apple product. To my knowledge, Apple has never sold their proprietary Touch ID and iPhone X was the... 10th anniversary iPhone...

Thanks! I find the Z Flip 7 to be far more useful than the Z Flip 4, due to the larger outer display, which is actually useable now. It is not a bad backup phone at all, and if a person felt a flip would make more sense than a book style foldable, I would definitely recommend it for a daily phone.

Yeah I love the small pocket impact of the Flip, except that sometimes you have to check that it is even there. At least from the outside it is usually more visible lol. I did prefer the curved form of the original, much more comfortable in the hand, but it seems that everything evolves into a brick eventually 🙁. It is really my only qualm with the Flip 6, and cases just aren't that nice. Plus the front screen cutout leads to dust gathering under the case. The original Z Flip was my daily for 4 years and now the 6 has been for about 2.

I don't think I'd ever go back to non-folding, but a tablet-folding one might actually make tablet a desirable form factor, as the main problem with a tablet is that it is a separate device, and less convenient to hold than a phone. The folds are just so incredibly expensive!

Yeah, the nice thing about the Z Folds and other book style foldables is that you no longer need a mini tablet anymore, so you don't have to buy two devices. Also, the cost isn't as bad if you are a mini tablet user that had the cellular version of a mini tablet, because you no longer have to pay monthly for the cell service on the mini tablet. About a week after I bought the Z Fold 3 several years back, I gave my wife my iPad Mini and I've never looked back. These phones still amaze me. I don't think people fully understand the amount of engineering that has to go into these devices!
