Lack of Face ID would be a big issue for me also.

I hated touchID. when I had a phone with touchID, I would put my thumb on the button. it would flash up saying not accepted. I would try again and the same. Would clean my thumb and it was 50/50 whether it would work. FaceID works 99.99% of the time 🙂

The battery suckage from the screen is going to be huge! The rumors are underwhelming for battery capacity.

Where do you get that from? The rumours have all pointed to a battery at least like the iPad Mini but the screen is going to be more efficient and slightly smaller. When out and about and mostly using the smaller display the battery life will probably be insane.

The Big G says that the liquid metal hinge may impart 300,000 to 400,000 cycles, and that could amount to 10 years of use.

Your point is well taken, though, especially with the moving parts involved in the iPhone Ultra. I go easy on my Apple devices, but I agree the Ultra is a prime AppleCare application. As much as I appreciate Apple’s build quality, it may even be foolhardy to get without AppleCare.

As I often alternate between my iPhone and iPad mini, the iPhone Ultra is very compelling in Apple’s product matrix.

Is there any awareness of how many open/close cycles the Ultra is estimated to have? I think I would open/close it with every use.

If it's anything like my Pixel, it stays closed 80% of the time.

Personally, I don’t want my device unlocking itself until I specifically tell it to. Unlocking just because I hold it a certain way is unacceptable.

Fingerprints degrade over years, and really only for older folks.

I'd always assumed Apple had no interest in making the world more like Biff's tacky 1985 timeline in Back to The Future Part 2, but apparently that's where we are.

I can't speak for Apple's numbers yet, but most foldables today are said to withstand approximately 500,000 folds at this point.

I think the camera shortcomings will cut into Ultra sales, just like with the Air. Expensive phones are for enthusiasts, and enthusiasts want the best cameras.

I'm an enthusiast, especially when it comes to foldables and I care not about having the best cameras. In fact, I wish they would do away with the selfie camera on the inner displays entirely.

If you own a foldable and you're only opening it 20% of the time, a foldable isn't really for your use case. I use the inner display on my foldables at least 70% of the time.
