Has Apple increased shareholder value?I would argue that focusing on the customer rather than the shareholder is the key to lasting shareholder value.
The long term play is the delight of the customer in a profitable way instead of coming up with an ever-increasing way of sucking even more money out of the market.
Speaking as a consumer who has a household crammed with Apple devices, Apple's growing focus on growth and finances have made me more distrustful and critical of the company, and hence less loyal going forward.
FaceID makes a mistake every 1,000,000 uses. TouchID is 1 in 50,000 uses. So is a security downgrade.Downgrade? Why would Touch ID be considered a downgrade? I don't get it...
Face ID replaced Touch ID on the iPhone. They'd be going backwards. Why put two Face ID sensors (one inside, one outside) when you could just use a single Touch ID?
It makes no sense from an engineering standpoint.
I understand the space issue but for a flagship device to not have face ID seems strange to me. Yes in the iPad Air/Mini but they aren't flagship
I do the same with my Mini. I think part of the issue why there’s that slight stutter in the mechanics of unlocking is that the sleep/power switch with the sensor is at the top of the device instead of the side. Touch ID going on the power switch for the foldable will likely feel more natural as that’s how most people grip their phones. What I do not like is switching between touch and face.
Took me a while to get used to face all those years ago, but came to appreciate it a lot.
Having touch on my iPad mini works but my initial reaction is to look at it as if it had face! Sure - only tiny issue. But I think I would prefer face on it - like on my iPad Pro.
Samsung foldable phone price range: $2000-$2450. The same as the rumored price range for Apple's.Why do people being critical of Apple have nothing to say about that in comparison? Why no comments about them or their profit goals? From a shareholders perspective which is the main and only customer for Apple. This makes perfect sense. Increase the price two-fold but downgrade it two-fold too.
Maximum profit.
Use an iPad Air. Then use and iPad Pro. FaceID is definitely way more convenient.Downgrade? Why would Touch ID be considered a downgrade? I don't get it...
Objectively? Less entropy so technically less secure.Downgrade? Why would Touch ID be considered a downgrade? I don't get it...
I get what you're saying but I still find it funny considering it also has two displays (and two "front" cameras, so quite a few components are replicated). Why put two Face ID sensors (one inside, one outside) when you could just use a single Touch ID?
It makes no sense from an engineering standpoint.
Only if people buy it.From a shareholders perspective which is the main and only customer for Apple. This makes perfect sense. Increase the price two-fold but downgrade it two-fold too.

Huh? Requiring attention only applies to Face ID. It's irrelevant for Touch ID because you would likely never touch the sensor without wanting to unlock/show details. But if for some reason you wanted to look at your phone without unlocking (which you can't do with Face ID), you could still press the button with the tip or side of your finger or really anything other than your registered finger print. How would this work with iOS features like requiring attention before showing notification details? Or it wouldn't and people with touch id gets less features.
Had this idea some weeks/months ago, was posting about it here. The two inner displays could be made with a folded glass edge, a little beyond 90° to help butt them together when open fully, snapping together in a gentle kiss in the last 20° or so.I will get downvoted for this but here it goes... Microsoft Duo. I assume there was no way possible for apple to engineer the hinge and screens to connect as if they became one screen when opened flawlessly.
This would solve a lot of problems foldable / flips have now but probably doesn't look as nice.
Yup I'm the opposite. I always wish for Touch ID when using my Face ID iPhone. The threads about this just go to show how different people are and how differently they experience things, because I could never go back to Touch ID; there’s stuff I think I’d be fine with giving up but Touch ID would be a deal breaker. Every time I use Touch ID now on my MacBook or iPad I think “man I wish this thing had Face ID.”
Downgrade? Why would Touch ID be considered a downgrade? I don't get it...
Apple hasn't published any features or specs.Already poor specs compared to current foldable. Off course: apple is coming to the party 7 years later with a 1grn device lacking expertise in features and hardware.
And expensive as if truly “modern”, but it is truly behind in all specs already.
It depends which metric one chooses to use. If you take random faces/fingers, Face ID is more secure, which is of course how Apple marketed it. But it's not always random. I've heard of similar-looking family members being able to unlock another family member's Face ID phone, but I've never heard of that for Touch ID. And I've never heard of a random person being able to open either a Face ID or Touch ID phone because the chances are so low for both. So lack of security doesn't seem like a relevant issue with either.Yeah, I don't know why they would do that. Isn't FaceID more secure than a tiny bit of a fingerprint? I really like FaceID.
Your thumb is likely more secure than your face when it comes to law enforcement overstepping their bounds to knock your phone. The Supreme Court (yes, even this joke of one) has ruled their is a huge differenceNot seeing the point of arguing over whether you unlock your phone with a thumb or your face… it’s literally a split second. Meanwhile, I’ll be over here living in foldable bliss while the rest of you keep unwrapping the same Wonka bar Apple’s been selling for a decade straight.
