FolderEnhancer just hit Cydia

I wonder if there is a way to change folder icons using WinterBoard. Anyone have ideas on if this is possible and how it may be done? If the folder icon is written out somewhere and not always generated on the fly, it should be possible to use WinterBoard to do this.

So far I've only been able to edit the folder icon that changes every folder you create. I took a iFile icon (looks like the Finder icon for OS X) from the Classica 3 theme and added 9 iBlanks to make it look like a normal app then I put all of my apps in that folder with FolderEnhancer. Works ok for now until something better is found.

System/Library/CoreServices/Springboard.app then edit FolderIconBG@2x.png.

Here's how mine looks.

First page has 9 blank spots to hide the small icons until I can find a way to delete those then the rest of the pages are full of apps, 4 pages total.

For those that are/were using infinifolders prior to trying FolderEnhancer:

1. Are they compatible or does FE remove IF on install?
2. If the answer to #1 is no, did you have to rebuild all your folders after the FE install?
3. Do the folders only scroll sideways (as in the video)?
4. I'm using Gridlock to remove the top row of icons on every page. Does FE take on the same view within a folder? I'm thinking this because of how it works with iconoclasm.

1. FE Removes IF :(
2. Nope. You will need to tinker around with them in order to get the folder in folder setup but nothing too major
3. As far as I can see, yes.
4. Gridlock works just fine with FE
 
I have no problem with infinifolders.

So tell me what is the angle with this new product?

From the program description:
o Open folders faster.
o Add up to 320 icons to a folder (20 pages, 16 per page).
o Create folders inside of folders.
o Create folders on the dock.
o Supports Iconoclasm for custom layouts inside of folders.
o Extends MultiIconMover to allow moving multiple icons into/out of folders.
o Options include hiding the folder name and wallpaper, as well as disabling animations.

Nothing I need here. Nice to know about. Love the whole "buy now the price is going up soon".
 
Liked it, but ultimately uninstalled because my app-launching animations got extremely choppy and lost that smooth opening style.

Thanks! So you've answered all my questions, but I'm not sure I asked #4 correctly. If I removed icons with GridLock on my springboard, will that be how my folders will look? I'd prefer that my folders don't have missing rows of icons. Thanks again.
 
And I'm bummed that my BigBoss repo hasn't refreshed to include this yet. I see it in Cydia on my iPad, but not on my iPhone 4 (which is ironic since it doesn't work on the iPad).

For me, opening faster, MultiIconMover, and last set of options are all great features that make me want to try this. Folders in folders is cool, but impractical in my opinion. And 320 icons to a folder? Nice, but that's like managing by springboard pages again. Still Ashikase makes some of the best tweaks for the iOS, and just because it's one of his I will buy it!

If you aren't having issues with folders opening slow with infinifolders then you could probably skip folderenhancer although it does have features that infinifolders doesn't have. I bought it right away because with infinifolders my folders opened very slowly. Now they open instantly.

No. The icons in your folder will look just like normal icon arrangements so there will be no blank row in your folders. When moving icons in and out of folders, you'll be able to place them anywhere because of Gridlock. However, once you are done, the icons will arrange themselves in order without any blank spaces.
 
I bought Folder Enhancer this morning. Love it. It open's much better then stock apps and so much more powerfull. I never got into the Infinity Folders/Dock so not sure how it works with it. The dev said it doenst work well with it since they both do about the same thing. I have to say though, FE is an awesome tweak. So worth the $2...
 
Loving this, only problem is that changes made to the layout via gridlock don't stick?
 
What I would really like to see is the functionality of FolderEnhancer and the icon customization of Categories. Imagine being able to customize your own folder icons (like you can in Categories) without going through the tedious Categories process of adding apps to your folder? That's the tweak I am looking for. Perhaps a winterboard theme?
 
I'm currently using 5x5 icoclasm. But FE only supports 16 icons in a page. :(

So I'll stick with the First version of FE + infinifolder so i can have more than 16 icons :)

Works perfectly tho. so far no problem. Won't update unless FE supports more than 16 icons....

Can I use my own folder wallpaper image?
Yes. The image file is located at:

/System/Library/CoreServices/
SpringBoard.app/
FEFolderBG.png
(Use FEFolderBG@2x.png for devices with retina displays).

Overwriting this file is not recommended, though, as it will be replaced with each FolderEnhancer upgrade.

Instead, the recommended method is to use WinterBoard (by Jay Freeman, available for free via Cydia).

The WinterBoard path to use is:

Some.theme/Bundles/
com.apple.springboard/
FEFolderBG.png

Huge issue with this tweak...It does not work with multiflow or the task switcher when you open an app that is located within a folder's folder...That is a huge deal breaker for me.

Wait! I thought that FE scrolled to allow many icons in a folder, not just 16. Did this change with the update to FE?

Personally, I tried to make the transition from InfiniFolders to FE and had all kinds of problems with missing icons. I tried pulling them out of IF so I only had 16, but when I re-installed FE those extra icons were still gone (no longer where I moved them back to on the springboard).

I really want to use this, but until there is a documented way to move from InfiniFolders to FolderEnhancer I'm sticking with IF.
