So I went ahead and ordered a 4-in-1 stylus to test on my Fold 6 (in anticipation of using the stylus on the TriFold).
And so... going forward you will use the 4-in-1 stylus with the Fold 6 instead of the S-Pen?

I don't really do any writing with the S-Pen, mostly it's navigating around the OS... doing some generative editing or text editing. I use the S-Pen significantly more on the Fold than Apple Pencil with the iPad, fits so much better with One UI... don't want to envision parting ways with it.

No, it was just a pre-TriFold experiment to see how well it would work. For the Fold 6, I will stick with my built-in S Pen in Nillkin case.

I write a fair amount in S Notes, during work meetings, doctor visits, signing documents, during phone conversations with customer service agents, parent school presentations, diagraming home projects, personal thoughts, etc. It isn't a daily affair, but definitely a couple times a week the S Pen comes in very handy.

Yeesh, how crazy of me to even check Southwest for flights to either Burbank or Long Beach airports, lol. Nope, not worth an additional $700 in roundtrip costs for January 30th.

I have a feeling there's going to be stock online come to the 30th... but going to be extremely limited. Would you end up buying for scalpers?

No, I am not overpaying for the TriFold. The Fold 6 is beyond more than fine to keep using. I will simply wait until I can secure the TriFold through normal channels.

Oh wait, did you mean buying "for" or "from" scalpers? Regardless, I won't be dealing with scalpers.

One of the Redditors brought up another good point about insurance. Apparently, VentureX and Amex Platinum extends the manufacturer's warranty an extra year, but only covers you up to $800. Hopefully that's still enough to cover a repair on a $3000 TriFold, but definitely not enough to replace the phone.

Yeah, I meant "from." My apologies.

And I wonder what's the plan going forward with the TriFold... will they release the 2nd generation late in Q4?

It will be an interesting 2026. I wonder about future TriFold models too. If the original TriFold is in such limited quantities, will Samsung keep releasing in small batches all throughout the year? Will global demand still exceed supply at the end of the year? In which case, the TriFold 2 may not even appear until 2027. Maybe by then we'll get S Pen support back and crease-less design. Anything else will be incremental improvements -- brighter or larger inner screen, higher resolution, lighter device, etc.

Then there's the whole discussion surrounding Samsung losing money on each TriFold. In order for a future TriFold 2 to exist, Samsung will need to either raise prices or wait until production costs go down.

When I click the "From $2899" nothing happens. I am really curious about the 1TB option since that's what I currently have on my Fold 6, but if the TriFold is limited to 512GB then so be it. I will just have to clear out my photo collection more often. After 18 months with the Fold 6 I used up half of the 1TB.

I think Apple Glasses will be the real next frontier. Fold will be a very niche market for people with too much money. "Normal" people will keep buying iPhones+iPads instead. Though I can see it being amazing for businessmen and people who travel a lot.

Apple needs to hurry up and catch up to Meta's Ray Ban and Samsung/Google smartglasses this year. I love my Gen 1 Meta Ray Bans, and the Ray Ban Display demo was quite impressive. I am waiting to see what Samsung introduces with built-in display before upgrading my smartglasses this year.

I did some more digging and learned VentureX and Amex Platinum extend the manufacturer warranty an additional year, with coverage up to $10,000 per claim. This should easily cover replacememt of the TriFold...well, realistically it's probably a repair bill since the card only extends the manufacturer warranty and isn't the same as SamsungCare+ with Accidental Damage coverage.

I initially read coverage limits of $800 per claim but that's for specific coverage when you elect to pay your cell phone bill with either card, which is entirely separate and different from the extended warranty program. Woot!

I plan to downgrade my Amex Plat next week and will keep the VentureX, which is primed and ready for Friday!

Extended warranty doesn’t mean much, since a warranty covers defects and not damage. I would always go with coverage of complete replacement regardless of fault from the moment of purchase.

Now I understand why there may not be SamsungCare+ offered for the TriFold. With such limited quantities, even if every TriFold owner subscribed to SamsungCare+, the premiums collected wouldn't cover the statistical probability of claims and repairs for all TriFolds.

Apparently, VentureX also includes "Purchase Security" which does provide accidental damage, along with "theft, damage, fire, vandalism, and, in some cases, accidental water discharge" during the first 90 days.

But Samsung should had increase the price of Care+ specifically for the TriFold… just to give those users a peace of mind. Even with limited supply of Vision Pro… being sold exclusively in Apple Stores, Vision Pro users have the option to add AppleCare.

That's a good point, but I think Apple has greater latitude to spread the risk-cost across billions of AppleCare devices. Additionally, the majority of AVP users are not taking their eye masks outside everywhere they go where there's greater risk of rain, dust, theft, and drop damage.

Now I'm wondering what the deductible will be on an iPhone Fold? Or maybe they will just raise AppleCare prices to get everyone primed to switch to AppleCare One?

Of course, there is going to be risk involved… but at least offer it. And just raise the Care+ price associated with the TriFold.

I'd wager they will have a certain price for AppleCare tied to iPhone Fold repairs, but isn't AppleCare One better if I had multiple Apple devices.

If someone only has the iPhone Fold... no other Apple products, then AppleCare One doesn't really benefit the user.
