Why is it that I seem to have done 167 WUs but have a score of 0? :(

And also ... I think I installed both the SP version from mc68k's site and the GUI version on my G5 ... does that mean they're both working at the same time? Could/should I get rid of one of them?

And also ... are there any problems with the G5s anymore? I didn't understand the discussion about what was not working with the G5s; I'm new to this ...

Thanks!

Maybe you are exceeding the time limit on finishing work units. From what I understand they will accept partial and complete work units even after the finish date but you don't receive credit for them. I find that even on my Dual/1GHz/DDR PowerMac that I have to have it on and folding at least 2-3 hours a day to finish most work units on time. This really isn't a problem though since i use the install script and have it automatically start folding anytime the computer is turned on even when I am not logged in. Also I leave my computer on pretty much all day every day and just shut it off at night so I can have undisturbed sleep.

If you know the work unit you are working on you can check on the time needed to complete it by going to the project summary page.

Thanks bousozoku ... I see myself on the 3446 team page, but I just started so I'm waaay down at the bottom: manzanita

If I do 'rid' to delete the version that mc68k's script installed, it says it will clear my user crontab (what is that?) - will that delete the work it has done on the GUI version, too?

Well, most of the world does have to start at the bottom. :D

By the way, did you read the FAQ thread? It's there for everyone's information about folding@home.

I would wait until you finish a work unit to use rid to remove everything.

crontab holds information for processes which are to be executed at a later time.

Its the opposite, they will accept them, and you receive credit, but they don't actually use the data, they just throw it out.

Unlike SETI which can store the data for later analysis, F@H needs the data for immediate analysis.

That's why Stanford was able to claim success in their efforts whilst SETI has yet (at least we assume) to show anything for over four years of analysis.

Well it couldn't be that protein strands are a tangible and proven thing while alien cultures are yet unproven.

Well thats the whole thing.

Folding is Proven and will work.

SETI might take millions of years before we get any, any reading.

It could be that some of those aliens are ahead of us in the folding@home rankings, laughing at the pitiful earthlings. :D I'm sure there are some kids out there sending prank signals to the SETI people from time to time to get them excited too. When they finally decode the message, it will say "Is your refrigerated food storage unit running?" :D

I asked it six months ago or so, and I'll ask it again: am I the only person who still runs Seti@home? (yes, before you all get up in arms, I run Folding too)

Oh and as a side note, this thread now has 10000 views.

There are a few people still active on the SETI charts, but we are really ranked quite low.

Yup just you. I chose to put all my processing time into something with near and tangible benefits.
