It wont make a huge difference but I have re-started a few machines that had decided to stop folding without me knowing.

We Peaked after the article got published on the front page (well about 3 days after).

But most of the members stopped folding after 1-5 units, which helped a little but not much long term.

A banner would be great.

:)

I think Bous Stated that The Gromac Core itself will need to be tuned to work at all.

But yes, it will be ffasstt.

:D

Remember that the AltiVec unit isn't quite as healthy as that of a G4 but the floating point units are much better.

It should trounce any Tinker units, and after getting the Gromacs core to run on the G5s, it should do quite nicely on Gromacs units as well.

Is it that the Integer unit isn't as capable or is it that the software needs compiled differently?

Well, it's showing an instability error on any Gromacs WUs so far. I would expect that it may need to be re-compiled or they're using the missing AltiVec functionality. The Integer units are quite capable.

What's perplexing is that the Pande Group were quite unaware that there was a problem. :( Erik, the developer, should have been notified by the end of the week. Hopefully, they'll just be able to re-compile the thing with gcc 3.3 and it will produce an executable compatible with all Mac OS X machines.

Let's hope it gets addressed. It will be nice to see what a dual G5 could do for the team's output. On a tangent, I just finally broke into the top 200 rank for the team last night, I'm now 197 with 580 points! Not bad for one month's worth of folding :) For some reason, it looks like both the PCs at home aren't working anymore so I will have to wait until Christmas break to get back down there to see what is going on. I remember the client would crash like crazy over the summer when I started. I put the client on my roommate's HP laptop, which is what is keeping me going until I can get a new Mac. I really wish they could have made an OS 9 client, but I guess some things just aren't meant to be.

Well if that's the case hopefully they will use GCC 3.3+. It supposedly offers some performance improvements for G4 processors as well as G5s.

Back to yellow!

[Note: why is there no 'yellow' in the color selection... wtf]

Yeah we are back in the yellow, but 'Slo-Tech' is Slowly coming from behind us... we will meet in 5 years...

Anyhoo, I just added a 2.4Ghz Sony, username veronica, yay!

Ah ha, So why the hell don't they list it as a color?

We are currently stationed around 9k a day... but yesterday we pulled around 11k which is real nice.

Keep it up there!

Oh, you're using the default style set. Go to your user options and change to the Mac OSX style set. I find that most people love it. The default set is so Windows 3.1 it make me puke.

P.S. Not on my keyboard thankfully.

And I find that running a Mac Os X board on Mac Os X is redundent.

I already use Mac Os X, why does everything else need to look like it?

:p

We are back around 10 K... :(

mc68k those Macs are producing less and less, I remember when rower had ém they were alot more productive!

the macs are doing rc5. on this team the macs were doing <5% (probably would be even less now). on my rc5 team they're doing 15-20%

PCs -> folding
macs -> rc5

these are the projects they do the best at.

i'd take over the library machines, but they have the registry locked out, and the account is not an admin account. thus i cannot make folding a service. if i run it as graphical or text, i can't get it to run at startup due to a cleaning of the startup folder. this wouldn't usually be a problem because of the registry, but i can't get into it.

so it's a matter of not being able to get it to start up when i'm not there. otherwise i'd have more points than bertman. the library has like 300 machines.

Can I ask several dumb questions ... ?

Why is it that I seem to have done 167 WUs but have a score of 0? :(

And also ... I think I installed both the SP version from mc68k's site and the GUI version on my G5 ... does that mean they're both working at the same time? Could/should I get rid of one of them?

And also ... are there any problems with the G5s anymore? I didn't understand the discussion about what was not working with the G5s; I'm new to this ...

Thanks!

I don't know why you have a score of zero. Are you looking in the right place for your score? Did you set it up with the correct team number?

You should not run two different versions of folding at the same time on a single processor machine. You may keep them both on the machine, but choose to run only one.

There still is a problem with the G5 working on one kind of folding@home work unit.

Thanks bousozoku ... I see myself on the 3446 team page, but I just started so I'm waaay down at the bottom: manzanita

If I do 'rid' to delete the version that mc68k's script installed, it says it will clear my user crontab (what is that?) - will that delete the work it has done on the GUI version, too?

I'm pleased to announce that I have a 700 mHz iBook and a 2.4 gHz p4 machine folding on the macrumors team.

I sound like a news anchor! :D
