Queuing is fun.

Apple is the only company in the world, that I know of, that can build this amount of hype around their product line.

I queued, met some very nice people, in the process, and was in and out within 2 hours.

R-Fly

Or Sony. Or Microsoft. Or Nintendo. Want me to keep going?

I got mine on iDay1 and all these girls were asking about my phone.

..........TOTALLY WORTH 300 bucks and 8 hours of waiting.

Let me guess - you hooked up with all of them, didn't you Romeo?

1. The experience. I love waiting in line for stuff. It's a thing my friends and I do on occasion. Video games, Nintendo Wii, iPhone 1, iPhone 2. The memories will last a life time.
2. I have an iPhone 3G and have had one for 3 days now. Do you have one? ;)
3. Your thread is a waste of time, don't you think? :D

Off topic but.....your bank didn't screw you over. This is a personal responsibility issue. If you buy a home you should know what your income is and whether you can make the mortgage payment every month. The bank isn't your mother or father. You are your own keeper.

I knew when I read the title to this thread that the OP was gonna get smashed in here but, I totally agree with him. I spent my Friday and Saturday on the lake wakeboarding and enjoying the weather. I also met several new friends at the restaurant/bar after I got off the lake so I accomplished both I think. I dont have the 3G iphone yet but I have the satisfaction that purchasing a cell phone wasn't the top priority in my life.

Get outside....thats where life is.

hmm. Do some research. Why are so many banks closed or under investigation? The banks were the irresponsible ones. Greedy SOB's. Also, waiting in line is part of the apple experience!

I find it laughable that people think that waiting in line for hours is a fun social experience. It's not like you can mingle and meet lots of people...
Why would you think that? I actually forgot my iPod, and even if I though that would be painful in the beginning, it actually lead to quite a lot of chatting with the fellow "queuers", even an old acquaintance that had her daughter in line, too, and were able to move around quite freely... :)

While I too think it's absolutely silly to sit in a queue for 3-6 hours for a phone when supply will be continously replenished (at least with a PS3 or Wii you could make some moola), it's their life and they can do as they wish.

I don't think you expected to garner much support by posting this thread.

To answer your points:

1. You like "waiting in line for stuff"? LOL ... "memories will last a lifetime"? you must be joking.
2. No I don't have a 3G, but I do have a 2G which is more than enough to hold me over until tomorrow when I will purchase a 3G without waiting.
3. Judging by the number of replies, it would be difficult call this thread was a waste of time.

One of my main points is that this 3G iPhone is not THAT much better than the original one that it's worth sitting in line so long for. I could understand this a bit more last year when we didn't know what the availability would be and also that it was such a monumental release and a new product. But this time around it doesn't make sense.

I plugged this bit into babelfish and got this:

"The truth is that I waited in line for the original iPhone myself. I still have and love that phone. In fact, my rational side cannot really justify upgrading on day one just for 3G and GPS, even though my emotional side is really telling me to get one. Instead of coming to terms with this is a mature way, I am going to sit behind my computer screen and take shots at the people who got one of those shiny new phones already. This soothes my bruised ego. Next week when I get my 3G, I am going to make a new post about how anyone who hasn't upgrade yet is crazy. I'm kind of a jerk."

most of the people who waited in line either don't have much of a life or are one of the 'elitist' folk..my time is too valuable to be standing around....and I have no issues with waiting a week either.

People waiting in huge lines for thes consumables are extremely pathetic.

They're the nerdy die had apple fans that will do anything for an iphone

oOr people who try to jump on me, yes i do have an iphone, i merely strolled in at 10ish am walked passed the huge line that had formed outside, literally 5 minutes later walked out with a 16gb white one, ( in all fairness dad did talk to o2 and got them to kick someone of the reserve list :D) but even still wouldnt line up for hours for one.

No im not furuiously masterbating pver the iphone like others .....

Daaaady! I want it nowwwww!!!!!!

well several reasons I waited in line.

(1) excuse to get away from my kids for a while :)

(2) new to the area so gave me a chance to meet some new people.

I didn't waste anytime of my weekend. as I went to AT&T store and waited in line from Midnight until the store opened at 8am got me and the wife a iPhone and was out of there by 8:55am then went out for Breakfast. We even after going and getting breakfast we still got home before the time I would usually get up as I usually get up every morning at about 10:00am. And then I continued on with my day like usually would I run my own business so I ran that. though that night I did go to bed a little earlier then usual. I went to bed at 10:00pm that night instead of the usual 1-2am.

1. I wasn't just waiting in line, I was camping out, hanging out with fellow campers, it's fun! Sorry you're anti-social and want to order yours on Amazon and have it delivered to your parent's basement. :D
2. Cool, but that won't change the fact that I've had mine for 3 days and will have had mine for 4 days by the time you get yours. Nanner nanner nanner! :p

I find it laughable that people think that waiting in line for hours is a fun social experience. It's not like you can mingle and meet lots of people... you're basically stuck between the few people around you for a very very very long time. What do you talk about after the fifth hour? If I wanted to socialize, then standing in line in front of an Apple store would be the last place I would think of.
I actually feel sorry for you that you can't see the world through other people's eyes. You sound like you are old enough to know that everyone has their own priorities in life. I hate slasher movies but I don't call gore fans "crazy". I simply understand the need for people to fulfill their own pleasures in life.

If you don't like something that other's are doing, nobody is forcing you to watch or read about them. :)

Im actually 22 and work with my dad, he just has stronger links than me :)

Would i look back on this? No as doing this sort of thing is far too normal and quite an everyday occurance for me........

While I think it's cool to see long lines and the enthusiasm people have for certain things, I decided not to spend any time waiting in line this time. I waited 1 hour in line for the original iPhone and that was enough of a bonding-with-fellow-enthusiasts experience. I'm in no rush to upgrade, but will probably do so before an upcoming business trip to Japan where GSM does not exist and 3G is necessary.

However, if I didn't already have an iPhone, I would probably have wasted a day of my life in line just for the experience. :) It would also have made my purchase feel that much more special after the fact...because of the 'struggle' I would have endured to get one.

You see when your on salary, you get paid if your at work or not, so for me I got paid $30+/Hour to stand in line, drink free water, and eat snacks.

Honestly, it was a one time deal for me just to experiance it once. I won't do it ever again. Its like camping out for the Rose Parade, you have to do it at least once.

I don't understand the logic of saying that waiting in line is crazy and a waste of time, but spending all weekend watching tv, fishing, or whatever is intrinsically better. If you really think about it, unless you are earning a living, volunteering, etc.., to name a few, then we could all be doing something better with our time.

I got in line at an AT&T store on Thursday night at 7:00 p.m. I had the iPhone at 8:15 a.m. What did I waste? I had my girlfriend there and I would have normally been sleeping overnight. Instead, I spent quality time talking with her while we urban camped.

People should get over themselves with these threads. We all have quirks and passions in life. Some people like electronics, some like other things. People who post about how other people's hobbies are a waste of time, are really the ones who need to get a life.

The first assumption you made is that your going to be able to get one next week.

02's official line on the matter is that, and I quote, "Everyone who wants one should get one before the end of summer"

You could be waiting weeks in the UK.

anyway, what's wrong with getting off your arse and leaving the house to go get the best sexiest piece of tech ever made - even if it means queing for a while...

The original poster argues that people shouldn't have waited 5-10 hours in line when they can get an iPhone in a week or two with no waiting at all. But if everyone had this mindset, there would be CONSTANT lines for the iPhone for weeks/months. If 30% of people who wanted a 3G iPhone waited in line and purchased one over the weekend (or in the next few days), then only 70% of the people left would going to the Apple/AT&T store to get one in the coming weeks. Now, if only 2% showed up this weekend (because they didn't want to wait in line), then there are still 98% of people who still need to buy one. (thus there will be a constant line)

I don't know if anything I just said made any sense...

Good for those that camped out. I love it. If I had the time, I would have done it too.

I get very excited when Apple products come out and the iPhones are no exception

If people can camp out and manage their jobs, more power to them.

i would have just been sleeping otherwise so i dont feel like i wasted any time. got there at 6 and out my 9:30. no biggie

My original iPhone had a bad volume switch after a drop and I literally could not wait to get the new one.

I would have waited a few days if my old iPhone was working fine.

wow you sound like the biggest spoiled brat...its really pathetic

have fun living off your parents your whole life:rolleyes:

Watching TV all weekend is crazier, if you ask me. I met new people and had lots of fun waiting in line last Friday morning. Made me forget about the whole s**t that's going on right now - high oil prizes, crazy idiots sitting on nukes in Iran, losing your home because your bank screwed you over - now that s**t is crazy. Waiting in line and chatting is pretty harmless, if you ask me

I agree!

Last year on iDay, I went to the AT&T store. It was very uneventful. This year I wanted to experience what I saw on TV last year. So last Friday (July 11th), I got in line at 4:20 a.m. Like you, I met cool people, schooled first time iPhone buyers who were really excited, saw famous news reporters, was ON the news, was featured in the NY Daily News (page 8), witnessed crazies telling us WE were crazy, enjoyed the applause when waking in and out of the Apple store and made it to work on time that morning where I was the toast of the office -- the ONLY one with a 3G iPhone. :)

Some people wait in long lines for concerts. Is THAT crazy too? To each his/her own, right? ;)

i mean it is at most 2 days of your life. you wanna know how much time you waste watching tv ads? total that up. it is pretty amazing.

Has anyone brought up the fact that waiting in line for 5-10 hours for this iPhone is just a bit crazy? Why would anyone waste so much time of their weekend when they can go later this week, walk in, and buy one without waiting. Apple stores will be getting shipments almost daily and you'll be able to walk in and purchase one within 20 minutes. I just don't understand the logic in wasting a perfectly good day on the weekend standing in line doing nothing inside a mall. Are people so impatient that they'll sacrifice so much of their free time... I just looked at all those people in line and though what losers. And for the people who camped out (wtf??)... I don't even know where to begin with you guys. The new 3G iphone is not a quantum leap ahead of the original, there are some improvements but not anything warranting camping out and 5-10 hour lines. I think this is one of those things that Triumph, the Insult Comic dog should have been at... would have had a lot of material. For the record, I'm a huge fan of Apple and I will upgrade to the 3G, but not until I can just walk in and buy it.

because the apple stores within driving distance of me are

Seattle,WA
Portland, Oregon
Salt LAke City, Utah

so until Apple decides to build an Apple Store in Spokane, Washington I am SOL...
