thanks, will for sure pass on the 14So far, this seems about right. I seem to be losing about 10% an hour of normal, consistent use. My 16" loses around 5-7% an hour with the same use.

Nice. Can you keep us updated? I’ve had some time to play with the 16 and I don’t think I can handle the weight and size, but I’m still leaning towards it over the 14 primarily because of the 14’s reported subpar battery life.View attachment 1882260
Following on from my other post, first time I've charged to 100%. My first charge was only to 80% and had a 10% loss per hour.
Just used this for 1 hour and still on 100%. That's the buffer in play.
The battery is partially to blame for the weight. So, if you can't live with the weight the compromise is slightly less battery.Nice. Can you keep us updated? I’m not a Pro but I’ve been blessed with the battery life of the M1 MBP which is unbelievably good. decisions, decisionsThe battery is partially to blame for the weight. So, if you can't live with the weight the compromise is slightly less battery.
I don't know your use cases but I wouldn't worry at all about the battery.
So far it has lasted incredible well. Easily a full day of use 8+ hours if not 10+ hours of screen on time.
I also have a M1 MBA which has battery life similar / same to the 16" MBP and really the difference between my 14" MBP and M1 MBA is barely noticeable.
I don't know what your baseline / benchmark / expectations are, they may differ from mine, but I think the battery is incredible. My previous MBP had a battery that needed a service and it barely last 3-4 hours. So this is a huge upgrade.
This is amazing and very similar to my usage. Thank you so much for sharing.Web dev checking in here. I have the base 14", wanted to give it a few days of setting up/indexing/etc before I gave some decent input. I mainly work in VScode (couple environments), listening to Spotify, usually have about 12 tabs open in Chrome, Slack, Tweetbot, Messages, iTerm and a few others.
I left the house topped off at 100% today, 1.5 hours in and I'm at 96% battery... Honestly this thing has exceeded my expectations. iStat menus is reporting I have another 11.5 hours to go ?, so that would pan out to about ~13 hours. I like to work remote quite a bit so I really didn't even consider the 16". I was thinking I would maybe get around 9 based on what they advertised in the keynote, pleasantly surprised here! This machine is something else.
For my usage it gets between 11-13 hours, depending on brightness level (I have it on auto). To be honest, I was worried about battery life, but this is not like Intel laptops. While the 13" M1 has better battery life, this laptop seems to lose much less battery when on standby. The 14" MBP has enough battery to last for a full working day and possible the whole evening too.If the 14 provides at least 14 hours of browsing, I will gladly sell my M1 13
Is that m1pro or m1max?Had my first full work day yesterday.
Unpacked at 89%
Battery low at 10%
Approx 8 hours use
14" 10/16 16gb/1tb
No rendering but pretty much everything else. Keep in mind, this included all the usual new Mac setup stuff, data download / spotlight indexing / photo download / processing etc...
Today I've used it for 5 hours. I have lost 49% charge. It is essentially running at 1 hour every 10% used. But to be clear, I have not charged it to 100% yet. So I suspect there is some top end buffer. I.e. you loose less per minute used when starting at 100% than after some discharge. Just the way batteries report capacity at the top end.
This is amazing and very similar to my usage. Thank you so much for sharing.
Can you please keep us updated on how it’s going as the day progresses and post a screenshot of the battery preferences screen once it gets close to dying?
"The 16" with the M1Pro is the longest lasting laptop I tested, like period. The others don't last that long but they are still exceptional." So that's the good news.Whoa! Verge said the 16" Pro gets 16 hours of battery life, but the Max only gets 10 hours. The Max reduces battery life by 6 hours? Could that be right?
If so, I'll definitely be returning the 14" Max I got in favor of a 14" Pro. I am not willing to sacrifice almost 40% battery life for the relatively small increase in performance.
That's my only real concern with this Max 14" model but just FYI, I don't think it's a small increase in performance. If your workflow consists of GPU heavy tasks then you'll benefit from the M1 Max. GPU helps with exporting in FCP, Premiere, After Effects, etc.Whoa! Verge said the 16" Pro gets 16 hours of battery life, but the Max only gets 10 hours. The Max reduces battery life by 6 hours? 8 hours is pretty poor compared to the 12-18 hours you get on the M1 Air and M1 MBP. I have the M1 MBP and I legitimately get 15-18 hours. As long as my M1 Max 14 provides around 8 hours of battery life, I think I should still be good. Of course, the more the merrier, but I came straight here after reading Verge's review as they provided quite a worrying statistic.
Yeah. I don't really do much video or stuff that is GPU-heavy. I do a lot of photo editing, but I don't think Lightroom or Photoshop will use the extra GPU cores, right? That's my only real concern with this Max 14" model but just FYI, I don't think it's a small increase in performance. So it's a tough call. I like what the M1 Max brings and GPU performance I think is key in the next few years of longevity of the laptop.
For me, I think I'll stick with the Max as I'm rarely on battery as it is with WFH and having my charger with me![]()
I am in the exact same situation. Just read their review this morning - wow. That's significant impact. I need someone to do a more scientific rundown test.Whoa!
