Just got the 16" and picking it up tonight. Curious as to those who've gotten their 16".

I keep hearing everyone say how heavy it is but usually when comparing to the 14". I had a 2019 16" that I thought wasn't too bad. How hefty do you feel it is now that you have it in your hands?

Would you use it on your lap (obviously mostly desk for many)?

For as big as it is, I was actually shocked at the weight picking it up just now. It’s way more manageable than a lot of people seem to be making it out to be. If portability is a high, high priority for you, the 14 is great. The 16 is still plenty portable and because my highest priority is having an optimized workstation laptop for video production, the 16 fits the bill. I’ll take the added weight and slightly less portability, for bigger screen, better battery, high power mode and more.

For reference, I’m coming from the M1 13 map and was a touch worried about the size and weight. Nope! Not at all.

Its absolutely fine - it feels about the same to me as the last 16" machine. I've been using it on my desk and on my lap, very comfortable and the screen is amazing.

Weight is totally fine. Size, on the other hand... haha. I've been so used to working on my 13" M1 MBP that I forgot how humongous these 16" laptops are.

I just saw them at the Apple store, and the weight is totally fine. As is thickness. I thought they looked gross in photos, but in person they look and feel great.

Compared to my 2017 15" MBP it seemed a lot heavier

I'm very curious to pick it up tonight. I have the 14" coming Friday but I was planning on sending it back. I think the extra screen and battery life will be more valuable than having it be ultra portable and light.

It's only 100g heavier than my current 15" 2015 rMBP. And only 2/3rd of the weight of my old 17" MBP. I've travelled the world with both. Anyone having issues with this needs to have a good hard look in the mirror and re-evaluate their life. It's not heavy, you're just soft.

I used to use 17" laptops that weighed nearly double what this new 16" does. Weight is a non-issue for me.

I should have brought my existing 2019 16" to the Apple store for comparison to what I have now. Comparing the new 16 and 14 in store today the 16 just felt like an absolute monstrosity. Between the chassis size and the extra half pound of weight, it jut felt ridiculously massive, to the point of making me consider the 14" now.

I do wonder though if it was at home if I'd notice it. I use my laptop on my actual lap a lot though and worry a bit about the added 1/2 lb and taller chassis + elevated legs.

Based on this pic, it looks so much thicker/heavier, but I guess not?

This is why I cancelled my 16 order, imagine traveling or flying with the 16!

I've flown and travelled with PowerBooks bigger than that. It's not that big of a deal.

When I was a kid in the early 1990s, I remember seeing teenagers walking around carrying MASSIVE boom boxes over their shoulder in order to listen to music on the go.

It wasn't ridiculous then. It is now.

The whole point of Apple Silicon was to ditch the limitations of Intel.... yet, out the gate, we already ridiculously thicker so as to avoid heat issues....
