I bet you'd feel pretty stupid if Apple did release 3.0 at WWDC, but I know it probably won't happen.

Summer starts June 21, why would Apple release new software BEFORE the summer? I can't see them doing that, so therefore the software/iPhone will be released late June/early July.

Though I agree with you that the release will not likely come before the end of June, I have to wonder why you think Apple would be so dead set against releasing it in the Spring. I think the timing is based much more on when the new iPhone will come out than on the Earth's location relative to the Sun.

This is all planned. They must've slipped you a Nano beta. The invisible keyboard is a totally needed feature for the iPhone Nano. If the keyboard wasn't invisible, it would take up the whole screen.

In fact, ever since I paid...er...became an official developer, I've been running 3.0 beta 5 Nano too.

According to a contact in Apple Support, they have all been doing extensive training on 3.0 for the past 3 weeks (finishing today) and the plan IS to launch 3.0 on Monday but the new iPhone will not arrive until July

is this trustworthy information?

All I know is that he (brother of a firend of mine) claims that all support staff have been informed to be ready next week (training completed, no holidays etc.) for 3.0 queries/issues as it will be released on Monday. Let's hope he is right

I'm a developer myself and just thought I'll let you guys know, the 3.0 firmware will not be released next monday. This is obvious if you have access to the developer forums, the current version of the 3.0 firmware is loaded with bugs. Not to mention that Apple usually asks developers to submit apps weeks in advance before the release.

So at this point the most likely date is when the new hardware is release so probably some time in July.

I sort of disagree.

Your OP argues that because Beta 5 has bugs, then Apple presumably needs to create another beta, perhaps a release candidate before it can release 3.0 final.

If Apple were Microsoft it would certainly be true. But Apple's beta program was not a bug-quashing exercise.

The main point of the beta program was to expose developers to the new API features, and find problems that occur when the new API meets your software. This is something an internal QA team cannot do.

By giving developers access to the unfinished OS, developers also ensure get an opportunity to ensure their apps are compatible.

I am not saying that Apple *will* release 3.0 on Monday. But it is not impossible.

And I fully expect the released version will have bugs which will be quashed later.

It would be nice if the 3.0 update came 1 week before any new iPhone hardware model goes on sale.

I don't know about anyone else but I'm really looking forward to 3.0.1.

I say 3.0 will be released on monday, because I do not want to wait any longer.
I really want to copy and paste boring stuff and send it to everyone.

My favorite feature of 3.0 is the "hide the controls" feature. It happens when you double click the home button immediately after hanging up a call.

"Yeah, I'll call him right now."

*hangs up and double taps the home button to get to favorites*

/facepalm

I doubt that the final version of 3.0 will be released on Monday. Most likely a new beta will be seeded that contains some features that were with held so they could be announced/demoed at WWDC. Just my $0.02.

Edit:

I am a fan of the missing keyboard bug. I have had it happen enough times that I am now able to use it without much problem. Come to think of it that might not be the best thing ever since it suggests I've had enough time to memorize the layout of a virtual keyboard.

I believe this.
