I bet many on MR remember the card imprint sliders and carbon receipts-

I suppose the next gen payment systems will get there one day... :p

That was SO long ago. And remember the big books they used to look up your credit card to see if it was on a ***** list for late payments?

Quote of the week! Borrowed from LordoftheReef

"I am unsure how Apple Pay being in existence got so many people (at least on here) foaming at the mouth that they are no longer willing to pay with any other form of payment"

I won't outright shun the luddite stores but anytime there is a store that supports NFC I will favor it.

There are similar posts on other major forums such as reddit. The people who would be out front and early adopters on phone based payments (which is very much the future of payments) are also technically inclined. The fact that retailers are banning both Apple pay and Google wallet in favor of their awful system that technologically inclined folks will shun is at least interesting.

Ok so 2 forums are talking about it. You're right. All the merchants that don't accept Apple pay are setting Up their bankruptcy papers.

... Sorry I was quoting the first person to respond but it didn't show up....

That wasn't really the question.

But okay... What if Google Play and the App Store don't mske the MXC app available for download?

Thank you for contacting Best Buy.

I apologize for the inconvenience. I understand you wanted to widen your payment methods for your purchases. I'll be glad to take note of your concern.

It is true that Best Buy doesn't support Apple Pay or Google Wallet as of this moment. However, we are making that possible in the near future. Please note that Best Buy will have its mobile pay solution in the next 12 months. We will continue to evaluate and consider Apple Pay, as well as other platforms, as an option. Thank you for reaching out to us taking the time to share your perspective. We always appreciate hearing from our customers about the things that are important to them

So, one company says in the next 9 months and another says in 12 months, right before the deadline. Interesting and thanks for your actions and for posting their response.

I find it amusing that some of you are letting the lack of Apple pay consume your lives. I normally have 'scrips filled at CVS, but used a Wal Mart the other day because it was closer. While waiting, I discovered that my contact lens solution is $3 cheaper at Wal Mart.

Guess what? I paid by swiping my credit card, and I'm still alive to tell my story. Get a grip people, the earth hasn't stopped spinning because CVS and Wal Mart don't accep Apple pay. I don't care if a merchant accepts it, I care about saving money on the things I need.

There's a good article on TechCrunch that explains more about CurrentC and possibly why CVS and other are stopping Apple Pay and Google Wallet. Might be because they are out of their opt out period from the contract they signed with MCX

http://techcrunch.com/2014/10/25/currentc/

"In January 2013, Fierce Retail reported MCX had been asking retailers in 2012 to pay a big upfront fee from $250,000 to $500,000 to get on board, and sign three-year mobile payment app exclusivity deals with MCX. Retailers who signed up may have had a one-year grace period from the start of their exclusivity contract to bail out of the deal. If Apple Pay gains steam early, some retailers might look to take advantage of this option to ditch MCX. However, if deals were signed in 2012, that grace period is long gone but retailers may be coming up on the end of their exclusivity agreements even though CurrentC hasn’t launched yet.
Those exclusivity deals may be why CVS and Rite-Aid are reportedly pulling unofficial support for Apple Pay on their NFC readers."

I can hardly say that it consumes my life... Not sure if you were referring to me or not... But my day was filled with time with my family. We spent it at church, eating lunch together, going to the pumpkin patch, then to a community Halloween party, followed by dinner together, and family fun night playing board games. But thanks for assuming that we all just fester in our sorrow about the woes of Apple Pay. You know, getting a new credit card when the next breach happens takes more time than writing to a few companies to express my disappointment.... So I try to be proactive.

I hope your luck continues. However, not everyone has been similarly blessed, and therefore tend to consider payment security to be important.

You are never excited about having fire insurance until the place burns down.

This is not a new reaction by retailers to applePay, but the latest in a long line of reactions by retailers, to credit card companies (banks). Basically, retailers have been paying through the nose for 50 years and see one of two things happening:

1) The disruptive technology of the cell phone gives them an opening and they finally get to kick credit cards to the curb.

2) Credit card companies squeeze through the gauntlet and live on for another 50 years.

Retailers had a real opportunity here but they've already blown it. They needed an effective solution in place 5 years ago. It's 5 years later (soon to be 6) and the tech they are betting on is already two generations old. So they are lashing out, trying to double down on their bad investment.
