I'll likely miss the ultra wide but everything else I'm fine with. I'll also have 2 weeks to change my mind 😅
That's true. I keep forgetting about that. But I don't know if I will have to entire 2 weeks with a trade in, I can hold off on sending it for a couple of days maybe. I would know in 24 hours easily if I don't like a phone.

I'm still debating if I want to go with the Air, or go with the base 17. The air is beautiful but I hope after the weekend we get a better idea of battery usage in the wild as reviewers are a different breed than the standard iphone consumer.
You can say that again. Sometimes I wonder who Apple is trying to please, regular customers or tech reviewers.

On battery, I don't think power users will be happy with the battery regardless.

BTW, MKBHD said the box for the air IS different, it's thinner, go figure, lol.

Same here.

$580 trade is unbeatable.

Makes my 512GB Air more palatable....

Yeah same. It won’t take me more than a few days to decide. I believe you have 14 days to trade in your old device. I’m selling mine instead. It’s still holding more value than the trade in at the moment.

After watching mkbhd's video I'm really pumped now.

after watching some iphone 17 reviews. glad i just stuck with the pro max. the single speaker on the air was pretty underwhelming. when im home i use the iphone quite a bit due to its portability and rely on speakers when listening to clips / content on socials

Only one day to go guys! iPhone Air day is tomorrow 🤩

Some great early reviews from various tech sites, making me want it even more.

Here’s a few.

I’m looking forward to getting rid of my 16 Pro for something fresh and different.

The usp’s of this new phone far outweigh (for me) the Pro’s power user benefits that I don’t use.

Roll on tomorrow.
Exactly. You hit the nail on the head. I’ve always had Pro Max phones but I think the question for me is how much of that functionality do I use and would the Air meet my requirements and I think it would. My only concern is is the screen size which could be a dealbreaker for me.

Which case (if any) are you going for? I’ve got the bumper and clear on order but it seems a shame to mess up the design with a crappy case……I don’t think I’ve ever dropped a phone either.

That’s exactly what I’m thinking, and I will go case-less for the first time since the iPhone 3Gs.
It’s such a good looking phone that if I do swap out my Pro Max for an air then I will definitely take a punt and go without a case

I see alot of confirmation bias when it comes to the reviews and interpretation of them, even in here. Just bear it in mind.

I agree to an extent but that’s the same with most products people are excited about getting. I’m a pretty light user so if the battery is anywhere close to my 16 Pro I’ll be more than happy to make the trade off on camera to get a lighter, thinner phone with a bigger screen and the novelty of something different from Apple. Can’t wait for their foldable…..that again……will have some compromises and benefits compared to the Pro and base model in different areas. If it’s a complete turd you can send it back, which I have done frequently over the years for qc related issues with pretty much all of Apples product lines.

The do? they only offer 600 for 10 months old 16 Pro Max (so half the price of new)
A good condition 16 Pro will sell for £650-700 on eBay in the uk which is pretty good from a purchase price of £999, trade in with Apple is mediocre at best. Samsung Flip are worth like £350 on a device that cost £1000 after a year, only half decent trade ins are with Samsung to stay with Samsung. Apple devices retain by far the most value of any phone…….you will always pay for convenience if you trade in rather than sell to an open market.

Der…….Unique Selling Points. It’s not an unusual abbreviation like tbh or qc.

Oh I see thanks lol. To me, the air's only unique selling point is the thinness....and damn if that's not tempting enough to get me to switch from the pro line. I use my phones without cases so the form factor alone is attractive. I'll just be jelly of everyone with an air when I go get my chonky 17 pro.

This is my experience, too.

When the 14 series launched, I decided I could safely slide from a 12 Pro to a regular 14. I did an in-store pickup on launch day, then boarded a plane for the Maryland Renaissance Festival.

On Monday morning, I got off the plane and drove to the Apple Store to hand the phone back in. A new 14 Pro took weeks to arrive. I hope I'm not setting myself up for a repeat (without even the consolation of the Ren Fest) with 14 Pro > Air. Though I don't expect so.

Can’t wait to get my Air (Space Black) tomorrow. Easy choice over the 17 Pro: for me they’ve just become bloated and too heavy. The camera in the Air will be great for my needs. The battery life is on a par with the 16 Pro which is fine too. Don’t get me started on the speaker nonsense - even the best stereo phone speakers still sound terrible vs AirPods Pro or my Sonos Roam. The mono speaker is apparently fine for speakerphone calls which is fine for me.

Most of all I’m looking forward to getting a new phone which feels like a new phone. The past 2-3 iPhones I’ve had were literally ‘yep, same again just a bit better spec’. I’m bored.

So in the end, the iPhone Air performs perfectly in terms of battery life and in terms of temperature... it's 1.3-3.5 ºC worse than the rest of the iPhone 17 models but 6º and a bit cooler than the 16 Pro models.

I see a very clear common denominator here and it's the new processors... Neither the aluminum or titanium nor having or not having a vapor chamber.

I think the upgraded refresh rate on the non-pros is a major game changer this year so that you could at least tolerate it while waiting for a Pro to arrive.

I agree. I don't see why people are so obsessed with battery, back in the day I could see it, before you could charge in your vehicle, before battery packs, before wireless charging, before bluetooth....even then what we had was considered cutting edge, now we wonder how we survived that technological infancy. So what's going to make the battery obsessed happy? An all week version that weights 5 lbs? They'd just find something else to complain about.

I use speakerphone all the time but if it's an issue I can switch to AirPods.

To be fair its not like that. Nearly all phones now last an entire day where you leave in the morning and don't think about it until you get back home. Because of that charging at work, car etc is just a bonus and not a necesity.

Just a few years ago every time I got a new car I would make sure to transfer all my charging cables over because even if it had 1 charger built in, it wasn't always the fastest. Now I don't really think about it unless it's likely to be a long day into the night, or a heavy day.

I'm not saying we can't manage, it's more that we have got use to not having to charge, Going back to looking at the battery and remembering to charge isn't comfortable for some people.

Similarly with the cameras, we all got use to not worrying about it. 5 years ago the person with the newest camera in the group took the pictures and sent them to everyone on a night out because of low light performance, now everyone takes their own pictures and the latest camera is only so slightly clearer.

Going back to one camera you DO have to think about lighting again.

These aren't deal breakers, and yeah first world problems, but still no one likes to go back to a problem they thought was fixed forever and had left their mind already.
