Well that's enough to absolutely infuriate the Pro fanboys!

The do? they only offer 600 for 10 months old 16 Pro Max (so half the price of new)
I never sell my phones via private sale, so resale value vs. trade in is less important to me.

Oh I see thanks lol. To me, the air's only unique selling point is the thinness....and damn if that's not tempting enough to get me to switch from the pro line. I use my phones without cases so the form factor alone is attractive. I'll just be jelly of everyone with an air when I go get my chonky 17 pro.
I’ve had Pros since they came out and they’re great but I just point and shoot for memories and don’t need mega battery life. The Max is way too big and heavy and the standard Pro is kind of pointless for me now the basic 17 has 120hz but I still feel 6.3” is a bit too small so this in the new sweet spot for me with the added bonus of being pretty and lighter weight.

Which case (if any) are you going for? I’ve got the bumper and clear on order but it seems a shame to mess up the design with a crappy case……I don’t think I’ve ever dropped a phone either.
Both: bumper and case arriving tomorrow. They are on sale at John Lewis here in the Uk for £10 off.

Originally I was planning to return the one I least preferred (likely the case), but I’ll probably hang on to both and switch them depending on mood. A bit like an Apple Watch strap.

Yep, same cases from the same retailer……..have a Cloud White Air coming from JL too and a Sky Blue from Apple…..see which one I prefer etc. Tomorrow is going to be busy for dpd.

Seems a lot of people are getting cases for their Air’s.

Is anybody planning to use it naked?

What about screen protectors?

I think i responded to you before, I'm going with Apple Care and no case. Now i've seen some reviews I'm not going to use a screen protector either now.

Also, that other Qi2 battery pack should arrive any time from amazon - just waiting for it!

A good condition 16 Pro will sell for £650-700 on eBay in the uk which is pretty good from a purchase price of £999, trade in with Apple is mediocre at best. Samsung Flip are worth like £350 on a device that cost £1000 after a year, only half decent trade ins are with Samsung to stay with Samsung. Apple devices retain by far the most value of any phone…….you will always pay for convenience if you trade in rather than sell to an open market.
Yes, of course on eBay I can get £800+ for the 16 Pro Max, but I was talking about Apple’s own trade-in, which is very poor value (like all the other reseller companies). But selling high-value items, especially phones, on eBay comes with stress and risk, since there are so many thieves and scammers targeting expensive phones.

Applecare+ is the best case & will keep the air as thin and light as it’s been designed to be! Also the beauty won’t be covered up 🤩

I’m planning on doing the same! Can’t wait for tomorrow 😁

My point is, getting only half the price for a mint-condition 16 Pro Max after just 10 months of use as a trade-in for the new model feels terrible like I’m being robbed.

Excited too! I hope i end up sticking with the air (White), should pair nicely with the AW

To be fair its not like that. Nearly all phones now last an entire day where you leave in the morning and don't think about it until you get back home. Because of that charging at work, car etc is just a bonus and not a necesity.

Just a few years ago every time I got a new car I would make sure to transfer all my charging cables over because even if it had 1 charger built in, it wasn't always the fastest. Now I don't really think about it unless it's likely to be a long day into the night, or a heavy day.

I'm not saying we can't manage, it's more that we have got use to not having to charge, Going back to looking at the battery and remembering to charge isn't comfortable for some people.

Similarly with the cameras, we all got use to not worrying about it. 5 years ago the person with the newest camera in the group took the pictures and sent them to everyone on a night out because of low light performance, now everyone takes their own pictures and the latest camera is only so slightly clearer.

Going back to one camera you DO have to think about lighting again.

These aren't deal breakers, and yeah first world problems, but still no one likes to go back to a problem they thought was fixed forever and had left their mind already.

But that won’t be true for everyone. Everyone’s usage will be different. You can already see some reviewers making it to the end of the day with battery to spare and some not making it. But there are already battery comparisons being done showing favorable results for the Air. I think most people opting for the Air will be lighter users and battery won’t be an issue day to day.

As for there camera, it’s the same main sensor so lighting shouldn’t be an issue. But positioning will without the telephoto or ultrawide. For me, 2x should be enough the majority of the time but I know I will have to adjust to not having the ultra wide.

That's all true, but that's not really my point. It was a response to why everyone is worried about battery - It's not about my opnion on if it will last all day, and for who. Nor if the camera will be fine in low light or not.

What i'm saying is, generally we have got use to phones which last all day in nearly all circumstances. We have also got use to the cameras being so good that lighting isn't that much of an issue now.

With the Air there is a genuine concearn that those things we don't even think about anymore we will have to think about again. I mean the magsafe battery says it all regarding battery - and the smaller sensor and single camera to build the picture from won't ever match the light sensitivity of a larger sensor or multiple sensors.

So the worry and uncomfort comes from that going backwards and an issue that's not in your mind anymore about phones now coming back to be an issue again.

It's a bit like if a phone came out with a memory effect on the battery like 10-15 years ago. You don't psycologolically expect to ever have to worry about that again.

So my point is, it is a valid concearn and a valid worry - one more thing to think about in the day - for some people anyway.

I think this is more true for peoople who would otherwise have got a pro/pro max and are considering the air - but also valid for everyone else too.

Let's face it even if you are a light user you will be caught out one day by the smaller battery, alot more often than with a pro. Like me that trade off is probabaly worth it for you, but it is worth a thought before you make the decision.

I agree. I don't see why people are so obsessed with battery, back in the day I could see it, before you could charge in your vehicle, before battery packs, before wireless charging, before bluetooth....even then what we had was considered cutting edge, now we wonder how we survived that technological infancy. So what's going to make the battery obsessed happy? An all week version that weights 5 lbs? They'd just find something else to complain about.

Back when I had the OG iPhone, I remember I just charged that nightly. I even had higher SOT on the OG than my current phones because I mostly use iPads now. It’s been the same for my subsequent iPhones - just need to charge nightly. When the phone starts needing charging multiple times a day, that’s usually when I replace them.

Sure, it’s a lot easier to charge now. However, I don’t think it’s unreasonable for users to expect their phones to last them a day with not so heavy use. From reviews I’ve seen so far though, it seems the Air can deliver all-day battery for typical use.

Never had a screen protector and touch wood never had any issues with scratches.

As for a case… only when I’m at work. All other times naked… got to go naked on the Air!

Protection only for when it's being tossed in the gym bag. No protection otherwise, just AppleCare.

Last I checked Apple was offering 700 for the 16PM. Not impossible to get ~$200 more via private sale. But you have list/ship and account for selling/transaction fees if using something like eBay/swappa etc… Trade ins are always about convenience. I can also already see open market prices dip as well. I think the iPhone 17 getting notable upgrades and even outperforming the previous pro is hurting resale values a bit.

Ahh yeah, reminds me of the old sleeve days! I use to keep one in my gym bag for this, and leave it in there. Any old brand that was thick enough since no one ever really saw it.

I’ve used my phones naked since the 5 and haven’t had any issues other than 1 drop that cracked the screen. However my 16P has a real scratch (can actually feel it) for the first time which is annoying. I bought some glass screen protectors but will decide if I’ll use them when I get my Air. If it’s not pretty much invisible I’ll probably return them. My credit card covers damage so I’m covered with that. There’s also the whole issue of negating the AR coating.

I always buy a case for any iPhone, but it will be used naked probably 95% of the time.

Case only for the rare times I’m out on the bike or walking up a mountain lol not very often! 😂

That’s the issue with screen protectors, it’ll totally ruin the AR coating benefits.

I haven't used a case in years, so I'll be going cashless caseless.

I am torn on a screen protector. I don't like them, but every year Apple says "more scratch resistant" and every year my phone is scratched almost immediately. Phone lives in a dedicated pocket with nothing else, only thing I can figure is maybe the metal rivets on my jeans.

Probably going to get a protector, but haven't decided yet, particularly as I am unsure if I'm keeping the phone.
