got a case on my mini all the time. mine was a slim fit so it doesn't add any weight or bulkiness to my ipad. if i am going somewhere i put it in a neoprene case.

I use a full body Invisible Shield (zagg.com) on mine. I also use the Apple covers on the front only.
The invisible shields are great & also reduce fingerprints. My devices do not get scratched at all. However, corners are still exposed by thus method, so dropping can dint them still. This is still my preferred 'case' since the iPad is protected, but feels naked without being slippery.

Just had to add my 2 cents on this one. I always loved going case less, and hate the feeling of cheap Chinese made crap cases, just ruins the experience. But since we got a "Switcheasy Canvas" folio, I will never go back. Just makes the ipad so much more universal. Easier to hold, cover can be manipulated for different angles, in bed for instance on the knee, on the kitchen table, standing up for watching movies on the plane, etc.. Has a magnetic cover that turns in off/on. There not exactly cheap ($50 or so), and like Apple stuff rarely found on sale. But a must buy in my opinion. Infact I took it out of the Switcheasy for a few days, and found myself using it around half as much, just because the case less iPad was just not convenient to either hold or use at that exact moment.

No case, just the Smart Cover. That's mostly for transport protection though. I quite often take it off when I'm using my iPad.

I use a Poetic clear shell for the back and a iPad mini Smart Cover to protect it. Only added a little bulk, helps with grip a bit, and keeps it in new condition. I take mine everywhere.

I plan on upgrading to the iPad mini 2 LTE model when it comes out and will do the same setup.

Have a cheap padded case/stand - iPad1 is put back into it / on it when not in use. Aside from protecting it the case also protects the furniture, we've had experience of grit under the iPad scratching the furniture if the device is moved. As an aside I don't use a case for the iPhone as I much prefer the thinner feel without.

I have the Apple smart case (front and back covering) - only due to my other half preferring it this way.

When I get a shiny new retina ipad mini then it will have only the magnetic cover as I like to be minimalistic when reading and stuff.

(And as its technically his ipad, I guess I can live with the cover for now).

not having the screen protected when not in use is a no brainer - I have two bengals and one is not as delicate with his paws as most kitties are.

I have the smart case and I quite like it. I feel it feels better holding the iPad with it on, if its naked the iPad tends to be a bit slippery and I'm afraid of dropping it.

I have a smart case as well as accidental protection. Apple smart case makes it easier to hold and accidental protection in case something major happens. At the moment the protection has covered me for the home button issue I had. Biggest thing I would go for is Applecare+ when going for an iPad.

Additionally I travel a fair bit with the iPad so, those addons are very essential, some places there are no Apple stores I can take the iPad too if anything goes wrong.

Just a smart cover, half for aesthetics and half to prop it up on my counter or something to watch movies or use when doing stuff.

I noticed a lot of people use the smart cover from Apple. I was always under the impression that because it has a magnet on the edge that allows it to stick to the side of the ipad, that it fell off easy. Is this or is this not the case with the smart cover? I know one person that has one on her Mini and she always complains that it is falling off, and I know from the user reviews on the Apple store many people complain about the same thing.

On a side note, since I am strongly looking at the Mini2, I really wish they would offer a smart case for it since they are really nice on the full size ipads.

I use a case just 'cause it's kind of slippery without. At home I typically have the Smart Cover/Feather combo since it is really thin a light. Traveling I use more protective cases.

My iPad4 is already a brick so a case is going to make it even heavier.I only ever use a case when I take it out.I just need to be extra careful when I use it at home.

Just a quilt sleeve. Best of both worlds, slides out easy for caseless use, also used to lay the iPad on to protect it from various surfaces. Used my iPad 1 caseless this way since day one, zero scratches.

Even when I am home I still put my iPad in a case. I find that in the long run it will/should protect the iPad from dust and scratches, and thus I belive it will mantain its re-sale value.

Second the thoughts on keeping resale value high. Also, I'd be sick if I really hurt the unit somehow. Accidents do happen...

Apple Smart Cover + Incipio Smart Feather

I have the original style Yoobao leather case on my iPad 3 all the time. I like it for better hold grip and also for the ability to prop it up either while typing on my lap or reading in bed. I've tied a bunch of cases and prefer the light weight of the Yoobao.

I have Ghost Armor on the front because I have grandkids with sticky fingers and I have a STM GRIP case because it has two built-in stands so I can easily prop it up. The case is really light.

I tried to go without a case but found the stand is a real plus. I can stand it up on the kitchen counter, the bed or even my lap.

iPad 1 the kids use has a cheap TPU case on it.

My 3 has no case at all Never has Not a single scratch on it and Im not too carefull with it. When I take ut somewhere i do put it in a slip in case, but no cover of any sort is ever attached to it.
