I snagged Space Black for my 2024 MacBook Pro and I'm happy I did. Looks great! I don't see fingerprints, but I clean my MacBook regularly anyway so I doubt it will be an issue for me.

I haven't run any performance benchmarks, but it has been extremely fast for my needs. My local LLM models are running really really well.
I went with the M4 Pro w/ 48GB of RAM
Count me in the crowd of "I don't care what the heck color it is as long as it does its job." And boy does the M4 Pro do it's job for me. That being said, I really like the Space Black even though I know it will show more wear than the silver.

I really like the esthetic of Space Black, fingerprints be damned! It's obviously the de rigueur color, but to me there is something really magical, elegant, and futuristic about it.
Had it for 4 hours. Zero fingerprints so far.
I do not regret at this point.
I've had 4 silver MacBooks in the past, time for a change.
I'd temper this with the fact that ones in store may have been used by people with grubby greasy hands.
So far I've been shocked at how little it shows fingerprints for me. YMMV.
I'd agree with that and was going to mention the darker colour reflecting less light to the screen. I got nano texture, which I do not regret, but the screen definitely pops with the black nearby.
As to why it isn't more black - it's pretty hard to make aluminium 100% black without painting it. This isn't paint, its anodising.
Had mine since Monday; fingerprints a non-issue. I don’t eat at my computer, and I don’t eat greasy food. I really like the all-dark feel to it, and with the nano display my eyes are happier than they were with my silver 16in m2pro .
Fingerprints are a non-issue. But I wear latex gloves each time when using it.
Boy, you need to carry a brush with you to clean that dust. It will ruin your keyboard if the dust gets under the keys. I brush the inside of the laptop down before closing the lid every time. I carry a brush with me everywhere the laptop goes.
But like someone else said, silver is generic and boring. Space black is far better. It's just too bad the paint rubs off so easily.
For people who bought the Space Black when first released, or just after how well has it held up to scratches down to the bare aluminum? I really want to get an M4. I like the SB color but not if I have to really baby it.
Silver is safe and classic but is kinda long in the tooth, as others have mentioned. I may just have to flip a coin. I do not care about fingerprints but scratches that appear from apparently nowhere, especially when I am very careful would probably bug me. I dunno......
I have a bump in the corner as the result of a drop to concrete while in a minimally protective sleeve that's wearing off a bit, as well it's wearing around the connectors. But scratches from normal use or other wear? None that I can find after 1.5 years.
I prefer silver aesthetically but opt for darker colors for functional reasons related to glare. As a remote working software engineer since 2012, I'm in all sorts of lighting situations and moving from silver to space grey was a godsend. Space grey to space black was also a nice ergo improvement.

Thanks for that input. I am in a similar boat. I think the Space Black will definitely have less reflectivity. I used to always prefer the Classic Silver look but it just feels a little outdated now to me. On the other hand, I hate scratches and wear around the USB-C ports and magsafe. I could probably live with the extra reflectivity of the Silver but the black just looks so classy but not if it looks all dinged up after 2 months.
I need to make a decision, because I need something to replace a dead notebook.
Mine still looks as good as new. No notable scratches or wear.
Had it since launch day.

That sounds hopeful. I am very careful with my notebooks, so maybe I will have the same luck. I see pix of some people with silver dings showing on the edges and around the USB-C ports, etc. plus permanent palm marks on the palm rest.. So, was thinking not very durable.
Does yours ever travel and do you use the ports often, enough where it might be an issue, or rarely do so?
Interesting. As, I said I am very careful but do remember on the old 2018 space grey Mac, I had from work the USB-C ports would show wear. Granted Space Black is different but still is anodized black on top of silver colored aluminum.
Most of my gear is Space Gray. I wanted something different and had never owned a MBP, so when I bought one a few weeks ago, it was in Space Black. I'm actually glad I did. It's not nearly as smudgy as I thought it would be. My daughter is a Mac-head too and she loves it.

I don't travel excessively, but it does travel with me. I'd say it is home 90% of the time though.
I do use external devices, but probably not as much plugging and unplugging as some.
Palm rest does show some slight staining, but nothing excessive. Only visible for the brief moment I'm cleaning.
