Are any of you tempted by the Apple Next plan that includes the Apple Care Plus? Would this be a deal worth considering? Can you keep your grandfathered data plan this way and just pay at&t month to month? Does that work that way?

I'm eager for this info too. Before today, I understood that my options were to order through AT&T with either Next or the 2 year subsidy to keep unlimited data. I'd rather not just because of the difficulty in ordering through AT&T when preorders go live. If there's a better way through Apple, I'd like to know the details.

It's an unlocked phone. There is no reason you will not keep your unlimited data plan. You will not be changing your plan on AT&T.

this is what i thought. I rather not change anything with ATT, cause i feel like they will do whatever it takes to get me off the grandfathered plan, whether its straight up telling me i have to let it go or through confusion.

Yeah getting an unlocked phone means you don't have to deal with the AT&T garbage. Until AT&T kills the unlimited data, we can get unlocked phones all we want. You can also do the next plan and still have the unlimited data plan.

Looking at Apples pre-order page, all I see under ATT is the option to Pay in Full or Next program. Nothing about the upgrade a certain line for subsidy pricing.
Checking upgrade eligibility link on that page that asks for ATT info to check, also shows only full price or Next price...

You can no longer do 2 year contracts with AT&T on Apple's site. Only available from AT&T.

If you stay on the plan your on now (2 year contract) even though your contract expired, ATT can discontinue your unlimited plan at any time.
Will they ? nobody knows.

You can have unlimited data on next plan ?

Why would you do a next plan if you have a subsidy?
All these payments plants all they do is spread the money over 20-24 or 30 months installments.
If you're on old unlimited data and family plans with subsidies the next and mobile share plans will cost you way more.
Dont get sucked into their game, AT&T its doing its best to get everyone off those old plans and off the unlimited iphone data plans and not allowing you to upgrade via apple and other retailers is one of their plans to get you to switch. Making it harder and more limited till many will just give up and say oh well, just switch me then.
You think Apples system cannot handle 2 year upgrades via carrier all of a sudden and only allows for next purchases? Its all a trick, Im not falling for it.
I'm getting it via AT&T and still using my upgrade and not changing my family plan or losing my unlimited data or making monthly payments on a phone.

No One knows but I really doubt they will forcefully switch you. They never did in the past and if they do they will lose many people.
That $30 a month unlimited talk, text and 10gb's of data from Tmobile looks better and better every day. If AT&T wants to drop my plan Im waiting for them to make their move if they want to play chicken:D

I'm with you!! They are trying to stick it to those of us who have been with them the longest. It is deceptive and underhanded. I have a line eligible for an upgrade but if I look on the Apple site I am conveniently offered NEXT with no mention of the upgrade!!

the problem is the unlimited data plans include the subsidy cost into the price so I don't see how the AT&T upgrade program would be cheaper than just buying a new phone on contract and selling the old one through craigslist.

I looked at my upgrade, it does show that I can upgrade to a 2 year contract.

I am torn as to suffer through ATT's preorder or just order via next (and pay off) or pay full price and sell the phone next year (which is what I do every year). This is the last year I will be able to use the 2 year upgrade (I am assuming this will be the last year the subsidies will be offered).

I have a feeling that the resell market will dwindle in the coming years. And lets be honest, with the new financing from the Apple and the carriers, more people would rather finance for a year or pay the same price for an used phone.

What is the suffering ordering via AT&T?
Are you really that spoiled that ordering via a different website is that hard for you?
And who told you this will be the last year that you can upgrade with a 2 year contract when it comes to those with old 2 year subsidized plans?

The problem with all these finance options are that not everyone is financially responsible. So if they make it easy for everyone to jump on a 24 month finance cycle for a phone is all the additional resources used by carriers and now apple to setup those plans and dealing with payments, the accounting part and with many people that will just stop paying or pay late and many many other issues that will come up worth it? Who's going to eat the loss once all these people get the phone and a month later stop paying on it?
Unless they make it strict and depend on a customers credit history and let those with bad credit not able to get a device that they might default on paying on.

I'm not see it either, I have always broken even reselling the phone. Did anyone he any issues ordering via ATT or have any tips?

I just spoke with ATT Rep online...

I plan on upgrading my 5 to the 64mb 6s+. I will incur a $45 setup fee, but my ATT unlimited and current monthly rate will remain the same.

All said, seeing Tmobile now is expanding Band 12 for iPhones, i'm thinking of switching in 1 or 2 months, if user feedback is positive. So the Termination Fee for ATT is $325, but after than you get to keep the phone. T-mobile will reimburse that Termination fee. So for the initial contract-price of the phone ($299 for 64gb model), appears that will be the only cost I'll pay for the normally $850 64mb 6s+. Anyone heard of folks using this approach, or see any pitfalls?

I'm in this same boat I have an old family share plan with a couple unlimited data plans on the lines. I really don't wanna jump ship to a share plan and think I'm better off signing 2 year agreements. I've been doing this for years, buy on subsidy then sell my current gen Iphone. It has worked out well so far. This year I guess I'm forced to use the att site.

Am I missing anything financially by going this route?

The only other alternative would be to go with the Apple upgrade plan, as I understand it so far. It's an unlocked phone, but I don't know why they want to ask about the carrier up front. Like several of you, I'm grandfathered into the unlimited data with at&t, and I know the only way to stick with the two year contract is through at&t website.

I miss the days when the only thing I had to decide was color and storage capacity.
