...On the flip side you could sale a certain *ahem* physical activity feels better without protection covering stuff up... but its definitely not as safe as being covered up and using protection ;)

As you said though, to each his own!

I'd be lying if I said the same thought hadn't occurred to me. :D

Hmm this concerns me, too. How about glass screen protectors?

I know there are glass screen protectors for the Nintendo 3DS, but only for the top screen. Screen protector kits come with a film protector for the bottom screen, probably because it is resistive touch. But would that also apply to force touch/3D touch? Sent from my iPad.

My thought is that it is possible that a protector could redistribute the force applied by the finger to the sensors under the screen. This redistribution may not even be noticeable, but there's a chance it is. I would guess that the material could play an important role in this, glass protectors being more rigid may disperse the force and make it harder for the sensors to detect a deep press unless some extra force is applied. Or maybe not, we'll just have to wait and see.

WOW I came here to post about this... Anyway Im wondering about 3 types of screen protectors, Water Apply, Plain plastic ones and tempered glass. I`m thinking tempered glass and/or water apply might be an issue. Also the glass is more durable now, I wonder if it's worth a try to go naked?

Really? Citation please. I'd like some citations please (post original iPhone) where either company acknowledges their partnership.

This article talks about 3D Touch extensively,

I already do, so why not. I've gone caseless and no screen protector on all my iPhones since the 3g (then 4, 5 and 6.) not once have I had any damage or scratches to the glass or phone. No need to baby a phone in bubble wrap.

Just because you've been lucky doesn't mean everyone will be. Safest route is always to cover it up.

He's not lucky. I have had every iPhone since the 3G. Never had a case or screen protector. Never scratched my screen or damaged my phone. I don't baby it either. Believe it or not, these phones are pretty durable. I have said this so many times but I will say it again - I can't believe people wrap these things in plastic, covers, protectors and boxes! Makes them look tacky, bulky and all around terrible.

Maybe if you are in a field that requires some ruggedness, I can get it. Day to day - 9-5 people, I don't.

I've never used a case, but I've used screen protectors since the 3GS (started using glass with the 4). I don't think I've ever broken one of my iPhones, but I probably break a screen protector once a year. Accidents happen. Drops happen. I agree with you that cases are ugly, but I get why people use them. -- Also, I don't know anyone else that has AppleCare besides me, which is why they probably all use cases.

What? Even to Stampede!! Madness :p I'm such a klutz I'd be terrified I'd drop it and smash and catch the edge.

There's a difference between scratching your screen, and scratching your screen to a level you notice in normal use. For example, I have always used screen protectors, including on my current 6 plus. My brother has a 6 plus and decided to ditch his screen protector. Once day he proudly announced "I've not used a screen protector for months and I don't have a single scratch on my screen". I took a look in daylight, tilted the screen slightly when the device was off, and it looked like someone had rubbed the screen with a Brillo Pad. Lots of micro scratches all over it. So, no scratches and no noticeable scratches are two different things.

I'm sure we will see more info about this in the following weeks, but does anybody have any information about potential issues with 3D Touch and glass protectors? I'm just wondering if the added glass layer might affect the sensibility of the touch.

So nobody really knows for sure. I'll for sure give it a try. In all of the iPhone's I've had, I was always able to get the hairline scratches on the screen.
Plus when I hand the phone over to the kids every once in a while, I like the screen protector to catch all their smudgy fingerprints lol.

I do currently use tempered glass on my 6 pluss and do strongly advice to use! So i do hope it will work on the 6S versions...

Anyone know if the glass screen protectors are going to cause an issue with the new 3D touch?

Until we get the phone and try it out no one knows. Apple has not said anything about it.

Since the screen has special flexible glass, my take would be adding another layer of more rigid glass will degrade the deflection and affect 3D Touch. Take a look on Apple sight, where they describe and show picture of how it works. also the video. Since the system requires a special, glass with localized deflection in the "Z" axis to interface with the distance detectors, I may have to keep this screen bare.

I'm sure it'll still work fine. With that said, I'm not sure why anyone would use a screen protector in this day and age.

Does it prevent the screen from cracking if dropped? Because you don't need one to prevent scratches (the glass is pretty resistant).

I use a glass shield because the inevitable hairline scratches that appear on the screen bother me. Also, I intern at the hospital so disinfecting daily is a must. Just gives peace of mind and makes things easier I suppose. :)

Makes sense! Nothing wrong with that :)
