Apple is turning into the tech company's I've always hated. They used to have a set plan and had no fragmentation but ever since 2014 they have been going down hill.

I love how almost no one is forgetting how much space this technology takes up inside of the device. Have you seen how big the Taptic Engine is when covering a surface that large? Perhaps they are not able to fit it into the 6s.

For those of you pointing out the the Watch has it, the Watch is 10.5 mm thick. The 6 and 6 plus are not that thick. The 6 plus is slightly thicker than the 6 and it also has the added length and width. These currently allow it to have optical image stabilization and longer battery life. This means that it has extra room while the 6 does not.

I didn't forget, make the thing thicker then, it's not like I would ever notice the 3mm to give me feature parity with the 6+.

I think you what you want is an iPhone 6 then. lol. The whole point of the 6 Plus is the size.

Oh yeah, I have an iPhone 6. I just don't want them to continue down the path of providing features only the the 6+. Ideally I would get all the same features in a 4.7" screen. Apple talked for a VERY long time about how the device should be used with one hand, and now they're going to continue to splinter their lineup giving more features to the huge phone they said they would never make?

It's .1mm thicker. Doubt that is the reason.

What can Force Touch do that a long press cannot? Couldn't this be achieved through software? We already use one press for some things eg. Contextual menus or to brung up the spyglass on text.

Long press is what is achieved through software now, but that's all you get. Force touch should give you hard and light presses as well for example. Maybe even hard long press and soft hard press.

So much whining here on this thread about this issue that I'm surprised some of you can type through the tears! Waaaa I want it.... waaaa but not in a phablet waaaa..... some models come with features others don't.... it's true in EVERYTHING in life so get over it. I love my 6+ and will love the next one just as much... ESPECIALLY if it comes with options the others don't so I can come in here and giggle at all the people crying about it!

Of course it's a rumor but I know how this crowd loves to lose their mind over rumors!

LoL I LOVE reading silly posts like this.... Yeah downhill to the tune of record profits! Come on now, you hate apple that much that you need to make stuff up now?

Of course if you mean "In my opinion....." that's a different story.... but that's NOT what you said.

They do have a set plan.... it's to sell millions of phones making millions of dollars and it seems to be working out perfectly for them.

Apple talked for a VERY long time about how the device should be used with one hand, and now they're going to continue to splinter their lineup giving more features to the huge phone they said they would never make?
How long ago was that VERY long talk about one handed use? I of course do just fine using my 6+ one handed but that's a different topic.....times change.... people's wishes change and apple is a smart company that can evolve and bring to market what the customer wants.... even if it does take them forever to be convinced.

Eh, since the announcement of force touch and the obvious uses in a phone, I was actually considering upgrading from my 5S to a 6S. 6 Plus is too big for me, I think. If the 6S doesn't have force touch, I'll just wait for the next version that does.

I'm beginning to wonder what compelling new feature Tim Cook will have to show off with the iPhone 6s. I'm not sure if it's worth the expense to buy an unlocked iPhone 6s, which I might have to wait until early 2016 to get. If the camera isn't significantly improved and there's no Force Touch, it will basically be a one-year-old design with a larger screen, the A9, maybe 2GB of RAM and the rose-gold option (which I'm not interested in getting, I want Space-Gray). To be honest, I'm not sure how beneficial Force Touch is and if it really makes a difference. Most media outlets seem to be on the fence when it comes to that. Maybe it's good with the watch, but on a larger screen or trackpad???

It sounds stupid. I wonder whether they will re-think the whole naming convention.

I think they should. Maybe dropping the 's' and just going to the next number.

2015 - iPhone 7
2016 - iPhone 8
2017 - iPhone 9 and so on

Agreed. And they can simply spin it to say that force touch, the biggest camera advancement on an iPhone yet, (and whatever else), were such a huge leap forward, the S didn't do it justice. So, introducting the iPhone 7.

Apple now is having a hierarchy of iPhones.

The 5.5" is the king! - 2GB RAM, LPDDR4, CAT6, 802.11 AC quad-band antenna, best camera technology!
The 4.7" is the middle of the road! 1GB, LPDDR3, CAT4, 802.11 AC dual-band antenna, next best camera
The 4.0" is the bottom feeder! 1GB, LPDDR3, CAT4, 802.11 AC dual-band antenna, okay camera techology

agreed! Outside of software changes, the only difference between the 6s and 6s+ will remain the camera and possibly the 6s+ getting 2GB of RAM.

the 6 is still their biggest seller, and they are not going to cripple a flagship product.

Screen resolution is different: 6S will remain 326ppi or 720p
6S+ will be go native 590ppi or 1440p

Well that would be fawking ridiculous. I honestly have zero interest in a Plus sized phone. The 6 is pretty much a perfect size for me, that shouldn't mean I'd have to settle with an otherwise inferior phone, when it comes to general hardware.

With iOS9 we're learning from the Apple Watch. We've added deep customisation to make it our most personal iPhone yet. With Force Touch, Glances, and the amazing new home screen, its the most advanced iPhone ever. #callingit

#iwant but I doubt we'll get it in iOS 9. Maybe iOS 10 (or whatver they decide to call it).

Welcome to the world of fragmentation. I guess apple really is trying to emulate android these days.

Ugh, that would be so dumb. Developing for three different screen sizes is one thing...but having your app literally feel different on one device is going to suck as a developer.

That's true, but you always have old devices to support.
Even if they add force touch to the iPhone 6S and Plus your app will run on iPhone 6, 5S etc.
And what about the iPad? They could add force touch to the next version and there will be plenty of old iPad out there to support.
But it'd nice to have all Apple devices with that feature in the future. With iOS 10 I believe iPad 2 and mini won't be supported so for the first time there won't be "no retina" devices to support. Eventually it will happen with force touch but is going to be a long transition.
