I completely feel ya. 👊😁👍

Some peoples reasoning behind bashing an iPhone model they aren’t even purchasing, or trying to justify why someone should spend money on something they don’t need, baffles me to no end.
I can easily afford a Corvette but that doesn’t mean I’m willing to spend the money on one, especially when I’m quite happy with my Toyota.

My wife is getting the 14+, mainly for the bigger screen. We can afford the 14 PM but it’s not something she wants or needs. Other than phone calls, she barely uses her phone when she’s home. 90% or more of what she does online is done on her iPad. When she’s out, she uses it for Maps, an occasional check of Facebook, and sending a few texts. Spending an extra $200 or whatever for a PM literally would be a waste of money.

Some people define themselves (or others) by the phone they carry in their pocket. It’s quite comical and sad at the same time. It’s just a freaking phone.

I think the 12/13 mini was a marketing blunder. I think the 14 plus will be a pricing blunder.

The mini had everything in the regular-sized iPhone in a smaller size. But I think Apple didn't want to sell the mini, because it wasn't marketed well. They wanted to upsell to the regular-sized iPhone.

The same thing will happen to the plus. It's too expensive, priced to make the pro look better. Apple wants to sell pricier stuff. Time will tell, but if they have stock on opening day that's a clear sign that it's not a popular iPhone.

The fact that it is so difficult to get a Pro and so easy to get a non pro means that Apple has perfected the art of up selling.

In the first place, they were worried that people will buy the plus and not the pro, hence the delay in the launch.
Exactly. Apple is afraid that the 14 Plus might cannibalize the sales of the higher margin 14 Pro Max.

I mean there’s really no technical reason to delay a release of a single model, and no rumors were even saying the possible reason. It was a business strategy.

Usual suspects piling in to defend their brand whatever.

FACT: the chip MIGHT have gone up in price.

Also FACT: other parts like the chassis, the camera, the screen, the 5G chip, etc will have fallen.

But don’t let facts get in the way of your story that Apple is a poor battered soul that had to pass on extortionate costs to European countries because their costs went up.

Funny, Google didn’t. Samsung didn’t. Same prices as last year.

That is reflected in Apple’s sluggish demand.

Sure they’ve flogged a few Pro models but it won’t offset the loss from their base models.

Those are the facts, eat them as you like.

Peace!

I went from a 12 Pro Max to a 14 Pro Max. I was super stoked about the refresh rate, but in practice, it's not as dramatic a change as I was expecting. It's unfortunate you cannot lock the fresh rate at anything other than 60 (and even then you have to go into Accessibility to do it)
I got my wife a 14 Pro and as I always have I can 100% tell when there is a better refresh rate. No questions asked. It’s a big part of why I went MBP over MBA.

iPhone 14 plus targets a very specific segment of customers. Outside of that, it has terrible value compared to iPhone 14 pro max, especially considering the context of pricing in other countries.

With that being said, apple was trying all sorts of crazy things to test the water. I’m not going to be too surprised to see people not going for plus 2 years later.

Apple failed to innovate with this launch. Ever since Steve Jobs died and Jony Ive left Apple has done nothing right. You're holding it wrong. Tim Cook has ruined Apple. The latest phones are nothing but upgrades in name.

Am I still holding it wrong?

All joking aside, I don't think enough space exists between the 14 PM and the 14 Plus. People who want the bigger phone are going with the PM and people who want the smaller phone are going with the 14 P.

People who upgrade every 3 or 4 years are probably going with the regular 14. They may use their phone to take snapshots, surf the web occasionally and play music. These aren't "power" users, but people who have a smart phone because they don't have a land line anymore and want to play candy crush and the like.

I think the 14 Plus was bad product placement. Too much to appeal to basic users, not enough to appeal to the more involved users. I don't think it's a technology blunder, but a marketing blunder. Like the 13 Mini was.

I don't think they will sell a lot of them. I think Apple has too many phone models at this point. The prduct lineup should go like this.

Basic iPhone. Kinda based off "last years" technology. Still a good phone, good upgrade for most users, but not for people who want the latest greatest. Good device to pull away Android users. Call it what you want. IPhone SE or Xr, or whatever.

Current iPhone model. Say iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 max. Drop the pro moniker. You're either buying the best Apple has to offer or you're going bargain. If you go bargain, you get one choice, the standard screen. You want the best phone, you can get either the regular screen or the max screen.

Still let people choose colors and storage size options. These are good revenue generators that entice customers to spend and upgrade.

The lineup has gotten too broad. It's time to cull it a bit, like GM killed off Pontiac and Oldsmobile.
I am writing this on my 14+. I am loving that Apple that Apple made me a phone that isn’t all about the camera. I don’t make movies with my phone and I don’t watch movies on my phone. I don’t play games with my phone. I run a business with my phone and travel the world with my phone.

I have been using it for 4 hours and the battery is 98%.

I didn’t expect it, but the weight is really noticeable. This thing feels really light.

I am connecting to 5G at 600 mbps.

I travel to remote and difficult places on occasion. The emergency satellite feature is not a joke for me. (I used to work in the UN)

I am still a geek and would like the newest chip, but I am not going to compile code or P Hack a Machine Learning application on my phone.

I know people are freaking out about eSIM but I have been using eSims for years. I’d rather download a QR code from a website before I leave home than haggle for a chip in a back alley. I also like that if my phone is stolen, my family will not be getting fake ransom calls from my phone number when the thief moves the chip and calls my emergency contacts.

🤣 The 14 Plus is using a lot of the "modern technology" found in the 13.

The segment that Apple is attempting to "satisfy" are those clueless buyers who think the 14 and 14 Plus are all new when in fact it's really just a 13 in disguise. Clearly, I'm not in that segment.
13 Pro…in disguise, right?
