I went ahead and pulled the trigger on the higher-end stock 14" since I woke up and found my local Apple Store has it in stock for pickup today!
If they were smart they'd ONLY stock the higher spec models ;). We'd all be jumping tiers (I just ordered the higher spec 14" model myself and am giving the base model arriving by UPS today to my daughter).

They got me for not only a second 14" MBP but the higher end model too, only because I was having slight remorse over not bumping up the storage to 1TB.

Do you guys think the 64 Gig of memory is worth it on the max? My pre order ships end of November but my local store has the entry max with 32 gig of memory available now

Just ordered the base config for pick-up later today (Anchorage, AK). I’m bringing in an old macbook for trade-in credit - hoping they’ll refund the initial order, process the credit, then let me immediately repurchase.

Also, I was told at the store two days ago that they only list configurations as available for pickup if they have at least three available instore. So, even if the model you want isn’t showing as available for pick-up right now, the store may still have 1 or 2 for purchase if you show up in person.

I was really pleased to be able to order the 14” model I wanted at a little after 8:00 for pick up today at the Cherry Hill, NJ store. I guess it helped that I actually wanted a standard config this time.

So glad I don’t have to wait till late November now!

I was told 5 but this is correct they will not sell the last one online. It must be to a walk in. This is to prevent mishaps.

Purchased 16” MAX 64 ram and 4TB storage in Los Angeles. Pickup at 11 am. All nearby stores (12) had this configuration in stock in grey as of 6 AM.

Seeing "available today" while your order has been "picked up" in China for the last 24 hours is certainly painful :(

Yep, all the "standard" configs are available as of right now at my local Apple Store. Which makes it a bit more frustrating in what Apple selected as those "standard" configs this time.

The Max shows available in every 'local' Apple Store today for pickup. Wow. I didn't expect that in ALL of them.

Missed pre-order? You WILL be able to get one today, if you act now...

EDIT: Okay, 10 out of 12 have it for pickup today. *shrug*

Thanks for the reminder, but no thanks. That notch is the poorest design choice I have seen since the iPhone X. I hope everyone is happy with theirs though. To each their own.

If I want to trade in my old MacBook, do I have to do it in store today if I pick up? In other words, will I need to give them my old one or is it still a mail in process where they send me a box?

I have an online order for delivery in mid November but have not prepped my MacBook at all, wouldn’t mind some time to do my transfer.

They take it in store. That's what I did to cut my cost.

Every review has come up to the same consensus - if you work in full screen, it is a non issue, you lose nothing since full screen adds a black bar at the top hiding the notch. If you don’t, it is unusable space blocked by the menu bar always so why are you whining about it.

Same here (eastern Washington state). Seems that the Apple Stores have received reasonably good stock for sale beginning today.
The city proper has already sold out of the 16” models but the suburbs still have them. Going fast!

I'm getting the one with 32 GB from my local Apple store, should suffice for my workflow.

16 GB unified memory and 512 GB SSD on the 16-inch machine are a bit of a waste, I wonder why they even offer that configuration. Especially given it's non-upgradable.

You don't go buy a Porsche and then be like, "you know what, I think the 75 hp engine is going to be enough for me".
Well people do actually. That's why rubbish like the Cayman & Boxster exist for people who can't afford a proper Porsche 911. The Cayman & Boxster are deliberately hobbled out of the factory to ensure they do not encroach on 911 territory in any way.

In my mind it’s more like a 911 Carrera vs. a 911 Carrera S. Either are an excellent choice...
I’d much rather spend the money upgrading to the 1TB model on upgrading the ram from 16GB -> 32GB.

Storage is cheap and can be upgraded via external or even network solutions, not to mention cloud services.

RAM is forever. No brainer, you should be upgrading the RAM over internal storage.

Hours later, the souped up 16", 64, 4TB still available at several Los Angeles stores.... As well as the "amazing" $19 polishing cloth. But no extra 140 W charger
