Yeah, because without it, the $2T company wouldn't be able to provide those resources![]()
they should just start giving away phones and MacBooks until they hit $1T and then start making money again, right?
what a stupid comment.

Do you realize that Apple is not a $2 trillion company? Two trillion is their market cap. Do you know what that means?Apple is a 2 trillion dollar company. They can afford whatever comes their way, be it lawsuits or whatever.
I think Epic are being a bit too big for their boots, and are just hurting themselves really.
Epic will cave in soon I imagine, once they realise they can't have their way. They have probs already lost $100,000's, (excluding the legal fees).
Good on Apple. I stopped playing Fortnite like after a week when it first came out, it's just a kids game now really.
This is my opinion, if you agree cool, if you disagree, cool also...
Good. Stand your ground Epic! The world supports you and your fight!
It does feel a bit like they're abusing their monopoly power in the MacOS Fortnite Gaming market... Maybe someone should sue them.Epic: don’t pick on unreal engine - it has nothing to do with this!
Also Epic: no macos fortnite for you, even though it has nothing to do with this!
That is astonishing and (at least to someone who has never played Fortnite) vaguely unsettling. As at May 2020 Fortnite had a total of 350 million registered users.

It seems to be an occupational hazard that suddenly finding oneself very rich can swell one’s head out of all proportion.
I was talking about bying a game on DVD for a game console. Every game I buy for my son, I buy it on DVD.
But the kids aren’t the ones paying for their phones, and it seems like the ones old enough to make their own money aren’t playing Fortnite anymore. You seriously think this is a consideration for the majority of young people? You must not have kids.
Then maybe Apple would reduce their cut and offer less services like accounting, support, etc. And the devs will have to provide those by themselves, which might be a non-issue for big developers, but cost-prohibitive for small ones. I think this is the kind of things people have been alluding to when saying that the 30% cut helps indie developers. On another thread, a small developer said that those services were well worth that 30% for them.Epic's push for less gouging by online stores benefits developers of all sizes (most particularly indies) because they'll be getting more money per sale. Not many people seem to think about that. I'm all for anything that makes the (largely brutal) game developer lifestyle more sustainable for the people producing innovative games/tools/software/entertainment.
Since v-bucks and skins are universal, couldn’t Epic just not offer IAP at all on iOS and tell their users to connect their account on a PC/Mac to unlock more features (or some phrasing that wouldn’t be problematic as it pertains to Apple’s TOS)? I guess if they aren’t doing that, it’s because they want the ease of use of the App Store payment system, but aren’t willing to pay for it...They only need 70% of the revenue from iOS to come over to PC to break even. Most players are on both platforms since v-bucks and skins are universal. I would be surprised if earnings showed anything. The players will just play full-time on console or PC and ditch the phone. Or they'll go Android but I doubt it.

Kids who own iPhones and are addicted to Epic games will see their friends with Androids having the new game. What will they do? They will sell their iPhones and get an Android. There’s nothing they will be missing on the Android. Kids are not going to stick with Apple when their favorite fix is taken away from them.
I’m sure that they use a messaging service other than the iMessage because not every kid has an iPhone. So, there’s absolutely nothing they will be missing if they leave the iPhone.
Apple needs to be taught a lesson.

I don't think it will. The mobile fortnite userbase small compare to consoles and PC. They have the financial support of Tencent who is also gearing up their WeChat App Store. They stopped sweating when the judge told Apple they couldn't terminate the certificates for the entire company.10 vbucks says Epic goes back to the status quo just before midnite.
The stores take a cut, platform takes a cut, disc pressers charge a fee, etc...You know the stores that sell those DVDs also take a cut, and it’s quite possibly larger than 30%...
You mean on MacOS? Easier to just dual boot into Windows.I guess people will start downloading an Android emulator to play with friends.
Yeah Tim "Karen" Sweeney!this company (Epic) seems to be run by delusional children
Their parents get them the phones that the kids ask. If a kid asks for an android phone, most parent will oblige.Keep telling yourself that.
"Kids" don't by cell phones. Their parents do. If your a kid with a cell phone, you get what your parents want you to get. If those parents are in the Apple ecosystem. They are not about to start over just so you can get your Fortnite fix. Go play your Xbox, PlayStation, Switch, or PC.
Hey I am a Mac user that plays games. But for games I purchased a ****** i5 with a GPU card and OEM Windows 10. I make my money on my MBP and all the crap gets loaded on to Windows. Fortnite is a game made for ADD kids.Desperate enough to play Fortnite to sell his or her Mac? 😂
Source? Please site, I'll wait.......
Lol, don’t let the kiddies see this phone:Their parents get them the phones that the kids ask. If a kid asks for an android phone, most parent will oblige.
Yet, the 30% does not at all fund the developer resources. With this 30%, Apple makes a disproportionate amount of profit above and beyond what you'd otherwise imagine. What hurts indie developers the most is the inequality they face with the current 15/30 split given to companies / industries of choice or to those that choose to go down the God-awful "subscription on all things" business route.
Is this acting like Epic where 30% taken by Apple and Google is evil but 30% taken from Nintendo, Sony, Microsoft anf Valve are ok?Apple's yearly earning reports and their overall valuation. Oh and some common sense. Had that been the case, developers with free apps are taking Apple for a ride.
I suspect Apple secretly wants to get rid of Epic and especially Fortnite from its platforms as a selling point to parents!
I've heard comments at my school from parents and teachers about Fortnite that makes me think the purchasers, not the users, see no Fortnite as a big advantage...
It's the cycle of life I guess. No, it was 30% from the beginning. They were cheered when they announced this because it was well below the roughly 50% that developers were accustomed to paying retail outlets for distribution. Nobody here seems to remember that, though.
Edit: And apparently no one recalls how desperate many developers were to get access to the iOS platform. Now they seem to see it as some kind of right.
If the sample size is all phones then yes you are correect. However Apple is not in the low end phone market.iPhone sales have been in a slow decline for awhile (by volume, not revenue - Apple keeps boosting prices by enough to keep revenue up) and this is going to accelerate it.
it should be simplified, paid 500 a year host at play store/apple store.. Everybody wins. It's not easy to explain to the client saying apple take 30% while normal credit card fee takes 5% to 8%.It's the cycle of life I guess.
Then - We hate 50% so we'll gladly pay Apple's 30%
Now - We hate 30% so we want to pay less.
Tomorrow. We hate that less so we want pay even less.
They'll never be satisfied until they pay zero. Well maybe once zero is achieved they might become even more arrogant and expect the developers to be paid as in you pay us to be on your platform. That's when the whole system crashes down on itself.
