im sorry but apple have state under oath they where willing to let Fortnite back on the store if it followed all the rules.
And currently links outside the store with 0% commission is legal.

it's neither my or Epics fault apple made binding commitments or be slapped with perjury.
Exactly. Epic may not be innocent but Apple are the ones that said they would put the app back in the store as long as it didn't violate any rules. And they're also the ones who decided to lie to the judge in court. This was a legal fumble on their behalf.

Irrelevant. None of what you said would have happened without what I said happening first.

No.

They just realised this single battle (denying Fortnite return to the Store) isn‘t worth fighting.
But they (I assume) won‘t give up fighting the war anytime soon.

Correct.

I suspect in the (probably unlikely) event Apple gets an injunction on the judge’s order, or it is eventually overturned/modified on appeal, Epic will be back off the store within a week.

Honestly though, hasn’t Fortnite peaked? I mean is it still the powerhouse game it was or has it faded? I honestly don’t know. What I do know is that my Gamer friends never talk about it, one actively hates it, and it really only gets talked about in these articles about the lawsuit

So I ask again, how popular is it really?
It’s… fine?

It’s a competitive shooter, so playing it on a phone is very limiting, something I’d never want to do. Maybe on an iPad with a controller it should be fine.

The game has great technology and runs very well across many kinds of hardware. Which is expected, since it's a showcase of Unreal Engine 5 (which also runs like crap in pretty much every game except for Fortnite... but I'm getting off track here)

I like their art style, which is almost bland but at the same time unmistakably unique.

And whatever they do with all the collaborations is epic (pun intended) — with Marvel, Star Wars, Sabrina Carpenter, Minecraft, etc.
Leagues above games like Apex Legends or Call of Duty, which have similar business models and in-game prices, but their skins and events are nowhere near as good.

The best part about all this is I’m going to save money. I’ve already noticed a few games that I sometimes throw a couple dollars at moving out of the App store purchases, which is something I will never do.

Steve would have done that.

And it would have been fun to watch.
It wouldn’t be telling Tim Sweeney. It would be telling governments. Government will kill you if you tell them that. You can tell almost anyone no, but not the government.

i am in shock.

Well not really, I'm guessing Phil Schiller didn't want to rock up to court again so just told his team to make it go away.

The Apple made up rule (no steering) was (correctly!) ruled anticompetitive and illegal. What about that was corrupt? I’ll wait.
Actually, there’s a pretty strong argument it was incorrectly ruled anticompetitive and illegal.

The (federal) judge ruled that California courts would find the anti-steering language illegal, which is why she found for Epic on that one count. However, since the case was heard in federal court, the exact same language came up in California courts, which ruled the anti-steering language was legal! And even noted that it was aware of the other ruling and didn’t find the federal judge’s arguments persuasive.

A state courts’ interpretation of their law is supposed to overrule a federal court’s interpretation of that same law. Apple pointed that out, and the judge ignored it. That’s one of the items at the crux of Apple’s appeal of the judge’s recent order.

That’s not to say it is a slam dunk by any stretch of the imagination, and it may not even be likely, but I suspect there is a much better chance that her ruling is overturned than many on here think.

I wonder when the appeal will be heard ?
Apple asked for an injunction by May 28. It’s safe to say that if the injunction isn’t granted it’s probably over. The appeal will still be heard of course, but if the ruling isn’t stopped in the meantime the Appeals court probably doesn’t think much of Apple’s arguments.

I love it that they basically lost everywhere with their draconian app store fee.

If only they let people just add an extra link to buy on their own site and all of this mess and millions of lawyer fees could have been saved.
Yeah, and it's such a simple proposition!

Pay with Apple — more expensive, but you don't have to share your credit card details, you get parental controls, nice unified history of purchases, ability to instantly unsubscribe, etc.
Pay directly — cheaper, but you're on your own with the company that provides the application

Should've happened years ago. Instead, Apple has forced everyone to use App Store billing only, and now they're reaping the consequences. Which I'm glad to finally see.

Thank you, yes it does show up from the link. Just find it funny/interesting it doesn’t when you search for it. Not sure if it’s intentional or what.

In a perfect world that would be great. In the real world when you offer those two options, one of them goes away.

only reason its back is epic went back to the courts to force apples hand. timmy didn't want it but can't ignore a court ruling.

Only one group of people can openly ignore a court ruling and Tim Cook gladly got on his knees for them so who really cares anymore?

It got a solid one star. Having to download 16 gig of junk to play a decade old game is really pathetic. Best yet, they can't do math because the percentage downloaded doesn't match the data shown on the screen. 3.1/4.29 <> 0.54
