In a new survey released today, Fortune has chosen Apple CEO Steve Jobs as the smartest CEO in tech. The survey drew upon 100 advisers and experts for nominations in ten different categories, who were then evaluated based on their perceived intelligence as well as their impact over recent timeframes.

Fortune points to the incredible success of Apple since Jobs' 1997 return to the company, seeing its market capitalization rise to $250 billion as the company changes industry after industry.
Rocking one industry could be luck, but upending four? That's smart.

He is a visionary, a micromanager, and a showman who creates such anticipation around new products that their releases are veritable holidays. And Jobs is a pop culture icon like no other business executive: An episode of The Simpsons a few years ago featured a Jobs-like character named Steve Mobs.
The profile also points to his "dictator-like control" that has resulted in the eschewing of Adobe's Flash technology while also driving Apple's products to possess the "elegance" of refined design the company is so famous for.

Runners-up behind Jobs in the "smartest CEO" category include Amazon's Jeff Bezos, biotech company Dendreon's Mitch Gold, Chinese e-commerce site Alibaba's Jack Ma, and Demand Media's Richard Rosenblatt.

Matching Jobs' performance, Apple's Jony Ive also claimed the top spot in the "smartest designer" category.
As Apple's senior vice president of industrial design, Ive, 43, is an expert at manufacturing lust. Like his boss, he is a perfectionist who leads a small team working in near secrecy. Most Apple employees aren't allowed in his studio. From the iPod to the iPhone to the iPad, his contributions have set the course not just for Apple but for design more broadly.
Ive's profile notes the presence of his designs in art museums as an example of his design prowess, while also pointing to his ability to satisfy both customers and his "demanding boss".

Who's smarter in the business than Steve and Jonathan? Tech has moved so vastly because of the two of them! KUDOS!!!🙂

Yeah yeah...the iPhone 4 sucks...the app store process is a mess...Steve's e-mails are dumb...

Proabably all true, but look at the numbers. Who's doing better? Who deserves to win over these two?

It's just like any sporting event. Of course the winning team has flaws. (Often more than you can count.) That's not the point. The point is that they beat everyone else.

Does this mean that when Steve dies Apple will not be the company it is now? That it may go back to been oh I don't know a Dell. 😱

Oh the humanity of it all. 😀

Well that didn't take long.

So well said there a troll in every conner of the internet.

Now if only july would come faster so I can get the badly done, broken White Iphone 4 I so much love. I need the phone 5 percent of the time, so I really don't care about ATT and its issues as long as 3G works flawless 😀

I heartily concur! The one two punch of Jobs/Ives is a knockout!
I greatly admire both men! Sure makes my former employer and CEO GE's Jack Welch pale in comparison, APPLE saved my portfolio in this economy. In fact I dumped most GE stock to invest in Apple at $69.75, and today as I write this its $258.00!😎😀😉

I can see both sides of the coin here:

Smart enough to trick their followers into buying a product that has problems. Okay.

Smart enough to build a product that gets so many followers to begin with. Even better.

As the owner of a 13" MacBook Pro and an iPhone 4 that works perfectly, I totally agree. Apple is years ahead of everyone else in terms of design. I have yet to see a laptop that has as great of a design as a MacBook Pro. Or even come close, really.

On a side note I always found it strange that Americans say smartest instead of cleverest.

We associate 'clever' with 'trickiness.'

A math genius is 'smart' for figuring out a formula.
A magician is 'clever' for fooling an audience.

An investor is 'smart' at picking the right companies to buy.
A criminal is 'clever' for eluding the police.

A child is 'smart' when he passes a test.
A child is 'clever' when he gets away with something without being caught.

The both mean almost the same thing, but we tend to use 'clever' in negative situations. Not 100% of the time, mind you, but more often than not. I guess it's not the same over there.

Love him or hate him, no one can deny the success that Jobs has had since his return to Apple. He has shaped industries and set trends, despite what you think of him personally, he's made a lot of people very rich lol.

So smart that they design an iPhone that has MANY problems.

Smug post from you, but you forgot to mention that they were so smart that half the world is buying the iPhone 4 STILL. So smart that hundreds stand in line for their products. Show me another cell phone company that gets that much adulation. 😛

yeah such a smarty pants that Jobs!
I mean who else can get 2 million plus people to buy a phone sight unseen, that has a glaring design defect that completely loses reception if not held in the Apple prescribed regulation manner, and then deny to the world there is an issue.

Sounds like a smart guy to me.

Good for Steve and Apple.... they deserve this. Apple and Steve have been kicking some serious butt during a time when other companies are looking to go out of business.

BTW... I think the Anti-Apple folks that troll here must be the same folks that stuck their thumbs up at the Mac community in the late 90's touting how great and innovative MS was. Now they're just pissed that MS can't innovate their way out of a wet paper bag and Apple makes them look like a technology dinosaur.

For all the anti apple and anti-iPhone people on this site... if you don't like the company or products then go somewhere else! Go buy another product and be happy! Life is too short to just rant and rave. UGH!

They only come here and troll because they have useless lives and they are useless human beings.

And I'd add... he set a lot of standards and changed a lot of industries. Music, computers, smart phones, industrial design, retailing. Steve and his team at Apple has been on a huge roll. I hope they don't stop... it's raising the bar with many companies and we benefit in so many ways, not only from Apple products.

It's good to see some excitement and passion in an industry that was becoming "ho-hum" 10 years ago.
