Just wondering how everyone is doing after the 10.6.4 upgrade?

Anyone noticing any difference in the behavior of their GPU's after the supposed graphics driver upgrades?

Well, Tweetie still activates the Nvidia card upon launch. :(

Thankyou Bitninja & Tegerill, you guys rock the house big time. This is sick, I just got my new MBP 15" i7 2.66 and this is truely a lifesaver.

Really? It was my major annoyance until this recent update.

Yeah, I don't know why, but it never activated my nvidia card while it was open.

Apps like Tweetie, Droplr, Cloud App still do though, and are much more annoying, since I want to leave those running all the time.

Maybe it's something weird with my machine (although it's brand new?), but I'm certain it switched cards everytime it opened...it's something I have running almost all the time.

I think it may have been more graphical fixes than a driver upgrade - I don't see any differences. Kind of disappointing, but not completely unexpected. Oh well - gfxCardStatus will always be free. :)

I guess when they said one of the 'Focus Areas' was graphics drivers, I kind of got my hopes up that they would make some more drastic improvements.

Good thing we have gfxCardStatus!!

Pardon my ignorance because I haven't read every post in this thread, but only since this last update has my card been switching back and forth within Chrome...had it always done that, based on what site you're viewing?

...maybe it's the new Flash plugin?

ps ^^^ many (many) thanks for your program!

Nope - that shouldn't be happening. I suggest a redownload and see if the issue is still present. My webserver + the updater haven't been playing nicely lately. I think it's time to move to a more reliable webhost. -_-

Thank you for this program; having discovered that Tweetie (which I have running 24/7) causes the NVIDIA card to be active all the time, it was either finding a way to stop it, or spend hours trawling for a new Twitter client...

Just one question, though -- I previously had Tweetie set to run on startup, but I'm a little concerned about having those two programs startup at the exact same time (both giving the graphics cards a completely different set of instructions at the same moment). In your opinion, is it safe to have both gfxCardStatus (set to Intel Only) and Tweetie (which would normally activate the NVIDIA card when it runs) set to run simultaneously on startup, or would you suggest playing it safe and starting Tweetie manually instead?

No problem! I suggest having only gfxCardStatus start at boot - it's anyone's guess as to which will start first (both start fairly lightning quick), and it's more reliable to ensure you force the Intel GPU on before you use any 330M-dependent apps, instead of switching mid-run. I don't think it would wreak any havoc by leaving them both in your login items, but there is less of a chance that a bug will crop up if you start Tweetie manually.

Gotcha, that's pretty much what I figured; always better to play it safe. :)

Many thanks for confirming!

Many thanks! I trashed Chrome...back to Safari where everything seems to "just work".

Good luck with your host issues.

I left Chrome after a month too. Went back to Firefox as I just couldn't force myself to adapt to a life without some crucial extensions anymore. And oddily, Flash crashed a lot in Chrome for me, whereas it almost never does in Firefox.

Cool

Good after noon!!

I just got an account so i can thank you!

I got my MBP 17 i5 at the beginning of the month while in Hong Kong for vacation.

Its my fist MAC

Since im in a war zone i am very glad i can save all the battery life :)

We don't have a fast connection to download the new 10.6.4 update so i can tell you that my Transmission is not using Nvidia no matter what.

Some question. Im displaying the time remaining for my battery and if i run "Stuff" (mostly Skype and imovie) that turn on the Nvidia, my time remaining goes down. That i understand since i finally open my heart to the MAC side of the force which made me smarter.

What im not sure is why if i switch to my intel chip my battery life don't change.

Is it because OS X take for granted that the Nvidia chip is on

Or the software force the chip it was using to stay on until i close it?

Also is the battery indicator any good. Is it using the real amount of what being drawn or its just a mere estimation depending on software. If it say 9h (wifi and safari on only) im i getting 9h?

Is anyone having issue whit fullscreen youtube on safari?

If its common is it possible to force youtube not to use flash

BTW i try to hate flash so can someone point me to something that would block it from my computer?

Thanks a lot to you guys

I want an autograph from cody too!

BTW sorry fro my crappy english im French-Canadian

No problem! :) Regarding the battery indicator - sometimes its behavior makes me want to believe that it doesn't estimate solely based on real power consumption. I can only assume that it does pay some attention to software, as there are times when my battery indicator is just plain wrong in terms of how much time I have left.

When you're switching over to the Intel GPU, though, are you switching while 330M-dependent apps are on? To be safe you should really switch before you launch those applications - that way it's much more certain that the extra GPU won't be active and you'll be using only the Intel one. I get around 8 to 9 hours with lightish usage while using the Intel Only mode.

I believe Chrome's switching is conditional on the Google Talk plug-in, or whatever it's called. Same for opening Gmail in Firefox.

ClickToFlash plugin. Go to Settings and check "Load H.264 videos from YouTube."

See above. :)

Thanks, Im trying it right now

Battery indicator, I realize that when you plug in an external hard drive it does show! It was my friend and he told me it was very hard on battery ( 2H left on a full battery transferring only file) I think the battery indicator is Black Magic...

Yes i was switching whit dependent app running. I have corrected my behaviour and saw the difference.

I still need to test the battery indicator whit a timer. I might do that tomorrow.

Thanks guys

Now i only need to figure out why safari stop downloading .zip after 60k on random occasion (very very slow internet connection i hope)

Ill start a new thread since there is nothing on the internet
