Indeed! What kind of auto update feature do you mean? It already updates on app launch and app terminate, and (it should at least) when external displays are plugged in or the display configuration changes. Like a timer-style auto update?

Oh sorry, I should've been more clear. I meant auto-update as in the app's version control system. Like checking for new versions of the app.

Ah - that makes sense considering I've put out about twelve different versions in the past couple days. :D Thanks for the suggestion!

Maybe I'll make it all official and set up a page for it on my website soon as well.

What do u guys think apple will do about this?
I hope they don't just leave it how it is...
I mean there is definitly some tweaking needed for this system.

early adopting issue

fact is - as a true mac addict that has been waiting and waiting again for the new mbps to finally hit the market, I am more than dissapointed in this early adoption issue hardware beta testing model of mine.I bought a mac with a 9 hour battery that gives me 2 hours and 40 minutes if I am lucky.$%&*#( that!
false advertisement? badly written gpu code ? I want it to work as advertised and get at least 5 hours of battery life! writing gpu code is not done in a day but I expect apple to fix this issue asap with another firmware update..
how long does your 9 hour battery last?

i had poor battery life too. the reason was that i restored all my settings from my 2009 mbp time machine backup. there is no gpu switching after restore from an old backup, the nvidia gpu is allways on. you have to make a clean install, and only import the user account after that.
i have nearly 90 minutes more battery life with the intel gpu now

Here's an interesting tidbit of information....

I'm one of the ones stuck on the 330m, even after a restart, anything else. As soon as I log in it's on the 330m. I tried logging out of my account and into the guest account. Guess what? No 330m! It's finally using the Intel card. So it's obviously tied to my account. I'm going to save the process list from activity monitor and do the same on my account and see what's different. Maybe I can track it down.

Just a curiosity question... is there a connection to the people sharing this problem and people with Final Cut Studio installed?

i was stuck with only the 330 but have no final cut installed, it was because of the settings restored via time machine from my previous mbp.

I am stuck in 330 and I restored from time machine. Is there any way to change the settings without a clean install?

Also, I do not have Final Cut installed.

Ok, glad to know it's not Final Cut.

I went through and cross checked all of the processes. Here are the process that are running on my account (which is stuck on the 330m) but not on the Guest account (which gladly uses the Intel).

742 usbmuxd
983 1PasswordAgent
984 boxeeservice
986 iStatLocal
991 iTunesHelper
992 System Events
993 HID Monitor for Memory Ca
994 Speech Synthesis Server
998 CrossOver CD Helper
1000 iChatAgent
1028 taskgated

The one that sticks out to me is the boxeeservice... I never use it anyway so I think I'll uninstall it and see what happens.

Edit: sorry, did some weird things with the table, I took out everything but the process names.

you could try ba making a fresh install, then you restore your time machine backup but in the restore options you just uncheck the box for settings. so it will only restore your account and your programs, all your data and programs will be there. after that its not much work to change the settings to your needs again.

I'd suspect it's either boxee or iStat - I saw a thread somewhere on the Apple discussion boards where it caused the 330M to kick in.

I thought boxee too but that didn't do the trick. But....

AHA! Nailed it! It was the Crossover CD Agent. That was my next attempt after boxee. Now I suppose it's possible boxee was a culprit too, since I tried it after I uninstalled boxee, but the rest of those are clean.

So if you have Crossover installed and the CD Agent is in your login items.... there's your culprit.

Nice catch, wouldn't have guessed that one! I wonder what business it has using Core Animation...

On the flip side, I think someone may have mentioned the "pmset -g" thing already that lists the "gpuswitch" value. This value is also accessible in the plist located here: /Library/Preferences/SystemConfiguration/com.apple.PowerManagement.plist

...Maybe I can manipulate this somehow to get it to switch GPUs.

This may be a stupid question, but how do I check which processes are running?

What you have done already is great. If you can do this, however, you are a god.

What the... Well this is just strange...

Now it just seems to be stuck on the Intel one. I can't launch anything that requires (read: would normally activate) the 330m. I can't launch 1Password, can't launch Tweetie, can't open a 1080p movie.... Etc. If I uncheck automatic graphics switching, log out and back in, forcing it into 330m mode, everything opens fine... Now it just won't switch up to the 330m.

One extreme to the other....
