Yes, so I'm patiently waiting to see what Apple itself will integrate into Safari.
I don't like the fact that MacRumors is inciting people to make their browsers insecure.
It’s fair, different strokes for different folks I guess. I use some extensions, but mostly on sites where I know I’m not going to encounter sensitive information of mine. I don’t have a Reddit account and I don’t use YouTube while logged in, for instance, so those are both sites I feel very comfortable using extensions on. But I’d never turn them on for my banking site.

Does Stop the Madness work with the Facebook App?
No, it’s a Safari extension. It’ll only work with Safari or with apps that use SafariWebView to display web content. It’ll probably work on the Facebook website if you use it in Safari, but it absolutely will not work with the Facebook app.

The EU passes a law so that you have to consent to cookies “privacy advocates rejoice” A few years later, everyone who uses the web even outside the EU gets sick and tired of clicking agree to cookies.

Now we have a sweet new app that auto clicks agree for us and we get to happily go about our business again.

Thank you EU your efforts were not wasted on the people you tried to protect.

Figured as much, since the links open within the app itself, capturing the fbclid etc.

i downloaded Adguard as some people recommended. going to try it out.

i hope it doesn't steal my cc info .... (/s)
I just bought it, but deleted it immediately. This extension can also pass on credit card information etc. I am not that naive!
that's the Extra toggle which the developer doesn't recommend for most people and it's off by default it's for some sites that are overly aggressive and the extension needs more access. it's open source and you can see exactly what it's doing with your info

if you don't trust it fine. i'm happy with it.

I really like AdGuard, I bought the lifetime family license from stacksocial. Not having ads on YouTube is nice.

Now if I can figure out how people are getting in the 90’s from stuff being blocked that would be awesome, I have everything turned on and that site I was blocking 70%

I might try Banish soon. All of these apps seem appealing because mobile internet browsing can be annoying.

They can spy. I just bought Wipr (recommendation by krspkbl), but deleted it immediately after installation. Those extension can pass on credit card information (remark from Apple). Why should one trust wipr-extra.js in mid term and disregard Apple's warnings?

That is a stupid way to think about it. Adblocker block host lists. Best Adblockers (uBlock Origin, AdGuard, etc.) also interact with websites for blocking because websites are working hard to prevent Adblocking. If Adblocker is interacting with website it needs to have access to it. All extensions work that way, they always did, nothing is new here. Apple just created warning for people who are not aware of this. If you don't trust a software you have installed, why did you install it in first place?

They were wasted for you Americans that have no privacy protection (other that California). We in EU have a great time with GDPR since it works both offline and online.

Every company including my doctor must explain why they need my data and how will they use it. Most importantly they must request my permission to use of my data. Anything other that that is absurd and immoral.

I find it interesting that you are blaming a good rule because bad actors are creating problems by trying to avoid complying with good rule. Good rule that was created because bad actors were behaving badly.

I just got the lifetime license too! I'm really impressed with Adguard so don't mind paying the £10.99. I don't watch youtube in the browser but I probably should start doing it because the ads in the official app are getting out of hand!

"Out of the box" it seems Adguard sits at ~73%. Here's how I got to 100%:
  • Go to the little shield icon with a tick in it
  • Press on Safari Protection
  • Go to "Filters" and make sure Ad Blocking, Privacy, Social Widgets, and Annoyances are turned on.
  • In "Ad Blocking" I have 3/3 lists enabled. EasyList is off by default because it is actually included in another list but I was seeing a score drop with it turned off here so turned it on anyway. I doubt it'll do any harm.
  • In "Privacy" I have 5/6 lists enabled with the only one disabled being "Fanboy's Anti-thirdparty Fonts"
  • In "Social Widgets" I have 2/2 lists enabled
  • In "Annoyances" I have 12/12 lists enabled
By doing this you should get to ~90/93%. In order to reach 100% you need to see what trackers are still red and then create "User Rules" to target them. "User Rules" is right underneath "Filters" in the "Safari Protection" section. Copy the addresses in red and create a new rule for them.

For example, the address "https://samsung-com.111.2o7.net" was not being blocked so I created a rule of:

||samsung-com.112.2o7.net^

The || basically means "https://" and I think | is for "http://". I don't know what ^ does but it needs to be at the end of a URL.

Here are my user rules:

Once you've set that up, wait a couple minutes Adguard to update, and you should be at 100% :)

You will likely be fine without turning on all those extra lists and creating user rules but if you really want to hit 100% it requires a bit of work. In my experience (on desktop with uBlock Origin) the score can change from time to time. You might need to update your user rules from time to time.

edit: While you can create a user rule for every URL you can sometimes block multiple with one rule. I think there were 3 with "s3.amazonaws.com" so instead of creating 3 separate rules I just done "||s3.amazonaws.com^" to block them all.

Only extension i use is Wipr which is an adblocker. Also gets rid of trackers and the cookie/GDPR notices. i'm quite happy with it.

it blocks 89% of trackers on this page:

for comparison, default safari is 12%, Duckduck Go browser is ~40% and Block Bear is ~64%

it is a paid app but worth it, imo. by far the best adblocker i've used on iOS.
Edge plus UBlock crushes them all.

I got 78% with AdGuard, how did you guys configure it to get the 93%? I’m a noob to this stuff.

Thanks !!

Go to this tab and turn on every filter on the page. That got me to 93%.

Then run the test again and manually add the sites that got through (the ones in red) to the user rules list on that same page. That got me to 100%.

Thanks for the help. Got me to 93% with your system, however I’m struggling with the custom filters and looking for your input.

I’ve tried putting in the urls and its failed but you’ve pointed put issues with that I’ve also tried the “||” symbol as well to no avail. It’s not letting me add it and if i enter the link normally i get an error, any idea on what I’m doing wrong?

I actually use multiple ad blockers (via the Content Blockers API). It doesn’t seem to cause any issues, and I figured more coverage the better, different apps might be better at different things. If I want to use a keyword based restriction, I use Refine. If I want to use a URL based restriction or create my own blocker for a specific element on a website*, I use 1Blocker.

* I used it heavily to make the mobile version of Fandom, the newer name for the old Wikia wikis, actually usable, stripping out so much non-advertising extraneous garbage (like interstitial boxes, infinite scrolling, that unrelated video overlay that takes up a good half of my phone screen).

Well to be fair, the "sweet new app" doesn't necessarily click "agree" to the privacy invading things like tracking, ad networks, etc. You can have it click "no" if you want. Just like any privacy minded person is likely to do if they open the preferences options manually.

Same here, I add one then it still is red when I redo the test
