Nope. The one and only built in microphone is inside the pin hole next to the rear camera. No LED light.

The new improved speaker appears to be a clone of the iPhone speaker and is behind the grill next to the dock opposite side of the headphone jack.

Anyone know the pixel count of the rear camera? Front camera is .7 Mega Pixels.

front is vga

back is .7

No, the rear camera in still photography mode is 0.7MP according to the specs on the Apple website. The front camera is "VGA" resolution (same source), which is about 0.3MP.
Nope. No pixel counts for either camera are on the Apple Website. The rear camera is probable 2-3 Megapixels. Front camera is .7 Megapixels according to several third party reports. Still looking for a number. Guess I'll call Apple PR and report back.

So, are they claiming 960x720 is HD video? It is not. Although I think my son would be willing to do absolutely anything to get one of these babies.

Already pre-ordered mine... I'm a sucker for 1st gen of new makes/ devices... haha. I will be interested to see how the wifi reception is and how easily scratched it gets... Hopefully not too bad, but I plan on getting a case and maybe Invisible Shield either way.

I kinda took the risk of not waiting to see what first impression were because I've been waiting 3 years for this model. :D

No They Re Not Claiming 960x720 is HD. That's The Still Picture Resolution

No it shoots 1280x720 ABC/Fox/ESPN HD video resolution. The question is with what Megapixel rear facing camera? The front camera is still .7 Megapixels. Rear must be 1-3 Megapixels. But what? I wrote Apple PR for an answer. Or iFix-It will tell us soon.

No, the video is 1280x720 :D
still images are 960x720

Unless they have the cameras crippled or I am reading everything wrong these are the numbers:

The front camera is 640 x 480 for stills and video.

The back camera is 1280 x 720 for video and 960 x 720 for still pictures.

640 x 480 = 307,200 pixels or 0.3 MP. stills and video

1280 x 720 = 921,600 pixels or 0.92 MP. video

960 x 720 = 691200 pixels or 0.69 MP. stills

MP = mega pixels
x = times or multiplication :D

If this is wrong...somebody fix it please.

The camera's good enough for pictures and video that's going to be posted on the web. The consumer market's digital content is more and widely destined for the web and staying digital anyway. Well, even professional if you want to count the digitizing of print media.

It's also capable, albeit just, for people who do short movies and throw them up on youtube, and you don't need anything more than 960x720 for posting stuff on Facebook, Ping, etc etc. Biggest gripe though, will be making wallpapers.

If you're going to end up using it for professional print/video purposes, you're better off with a dedicated device anyway.

finally a camera and face time! pretty exciting

Now the iPad looks even more dated. No camera's and no facetime and twice the monies. For the price it should really come with cameras. I'm sure they will add them to version 2 of the iPad next year and they will act like they have video footage of Abraham break-dancing in hi-heels as he's carrying the tablets off the mountain. It's ok though, they will make it up in iPod sales. I know I'm getting mine.

You have confused still photo resolution with the hardware camera resolution. For sensors with multiple capture modes, they are not always the same.

Wifi or Antenna

They got rid of the black space for the Wifi in the top corner of the iPod Touch. Where have they put it?
I'm guessing about the location of this WiFi or Antenna feature because is it possible that the back of the iPod Touch is a different kind of chrome or metal?

Agreed. I read somewhere (and a while ago, at that) that Facebook has become, by default of its user base, the biggest photo hosting site around and they only just upped the maximum size of posted photos to 720 pixels on the longest side.

I'm quite excited about the device as presently specced, as I mainly just wanted a little camera to play around with Hipstamatic and other such programs, the results of which would be uploaded to places like MySpace, Facebook, or Orkut...

Why no FM Radio

Just a simple question. If the iPod nano has an FM radio, why don't they add one to the iPod touch? It shouldn't be too difficult and it would be a nice added functionality to the touch. I thought maybe they would do that in this revision. Does anyone have thoughts on the matter?

I was thinking about the same thing! I used to tag some songs off the radio from my iPod nano and it was great. The reception was rather limited to outdoors though. I guess adding the radio requires another chip that can't be squeezed into the new iPod touch.

Oh well. It's a disappointment but it isn't really needed when the Internet/iTunes can show most of the latest hits.

FM is dead! You should be asking for HD Radio!

Yes, it is. As long as it has 720 across then it's HD, that's the specification of the term HD/High Definition.

No, it doesn't. The front is not 0.7 Megapixels because it's VGA! The rear isn't 1 - 3, stop making rubbish up. Why write to their PR when you can see the specifications on their website?

iPod Touch 4G what happened?

Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but when the iPod Touch 1G came out was it not basically the iPhone 1G without the phone components???
I was planning to get the iPod 4G not anymore. I understand the business reason by Apple for not wanting to take away sales from iPhone 4G (which by the way is a phone first?)
But a .7 megapixel camera/no flash on iPod Touch, no form factor like the iPhone 4G??? Those to omissions were deal breakers for me. My reason for purchasing an iPod Touch was the GrooveMaker app (it's not made for my Droid) and because I have a lot of music on iTunes. Why Apple doesn't make a iPod Touch with all the features (such as GPS/same camera w/flash) and form factor of the iPhone4 (minus the phone and texting features) is beyond me. I'm purchasing iPod Touch 3G instead and save 100+ dollars. And I would like to know who's in charge of Nana iPod development at Apple? what are they trying to do to that mp3 player? Update it out of existence???
