The Media can sometimes be a waste of time. I've seen about 10 YouTube reviews and read lots online and feel embarrassed for some of the reviewers. Some have no idea what they are talking about. Even before I started viewing the videos it was to see the watch in different angles etc NOT what they have to say.

I prefer forums like this and reviews from real users, although I started seeing some new threads started by haters, to me it's comedy reading the hate threads.

God. It's April 24th already?

Apple has made their policies clear and there are NO appointments in Austin. Seems like they're doing just fine.

i don't feel sorry for her. her problem is that she genuinely doesn't understand that people can walk in at their leisure to merely view the watch. The watch isn't available to purchase, so why would their be a line? And why would anyone queue if they have an appointment for anything other than store opening?

Still arguing with her. she contends at one point on march press release there was a caveat to purchase in store. I'm saying its always been web purchase with ship to home or inshore reservation pickup.

Now its based on in store purchase or web order and getting set up assistance.

I couldn't help myself...

to her credit, she's taking the jabs like a champ.

me: (2) The watch isn't available to purchase, so why would their be a line?
her: thought more people would be excited to finally test out the Apple watch. Just acknowledging that they weren't
me:you have to acknowledge that people couldn't show up to the store to try it out without an appointment.
her: except that's not true. They changed that. Anyone could show up to try it on
me: (link to reservation page) Why would apple require you to make an appointment if you can just walk in whenever?
her: because they don't require it anymore. That changed
me: the only thing that changed yesterday was that you can't pre order in store. You still need an appointment for try ons.

Except she was completely right on the try-on account. You don't need an appt for try-ons. It's just recommended.

Interesting take on the Apple Watch release. Had she been a more educated consumer, perhaps she could have written a more factual article. I'm pretty certain Apple's position on walkins was to push all walkins to order online via the app. The article states this was decided yesterday. Check it out and other misinformation here... Apple Watch Debut falls flat

"The Apple Watch was released today. Nobody walked out of an Apple Store with one. It failed"

Two weeks later:
**Fox Business would like to correct this story by noting that the watch was never going to be for sale on April 10. Nobody walked out of a store with one because they did not go on sale until April 24. We would also like to correct our assertion that Apple has never sold a song, TV show, movie or book based on our single Apple Store survey. Fox Business had no way of knowing these items would only be sold online due to the fact that they are digital files and unable to be sold physically.**

tbh I kinda agree with the article. As someone who pre ordered immediately then went to the store for my try on I was shocked at how dead the place was. No interest what so ever from anyone? Seriously!? Your first chance to see this thing with your own eyes and minuscule amounts turned out to do so? Appointment or not.....you can see the thing!!!! Yet it was dead. Did Apple know through its channels that the interest in this thing is low and is doing a damage limitation exercise? Tim Cook....sales were 'good' seriously? What does that mean

They must have seen the ratings boost for The Verge and decided to apply the same strategy.

To an extent it's because it's a first gen product, I remember the queues for the launch of the first iPhone in London Regent Street. It was virtually non existent. Apart from Apple enthusiastics like myself, most people won't even know if it's out or what it does.

Wait till the 2nd or 3rd gen comes out and you will see the stores packed out.

I can't wait for my watch but honestly agree with the guy/gal you replied to, you don't even see a lot of movement here in the forum about the watch atleast how it always happend with Apple pre-orders.

Not even the floods of threads people asking about Apple charging cards, people calling to see if they can get launch delivery etc etc

In my country very few people are even aware of the watch with no coverage in the news, it's normal to see articles for the iPhone and ipad and some talk.

I actually think the while it may be a bit click-baity, it wasn't that inaccurate. The launch, for those who weren't closely following all the various PR statements and rumours etc, was quite confusing. Were they or weren't they doing in-store pick-ups? Could you order in-store or only online? When could you book try-ons? Would there be any to buy via walk-in on the 24th?

I know that most people on this forum would have answers to these questions but personally I felt it was all quite unclear and the message kept changing. You shouldn't have to monitor an Apple forum to know what's going on.

Wow I wouldn't say you "got her" especially after a comment like "are you stupid". I actually feel bad for her and only discourages her from responding to future comments about her articles. Either have a respectful conversation or let her have her own opinion and leave her alone.

Asking if someone is stupid is a legit question especially when what they wrote can be proven so devoid of factual information. May not have worded it that way but she's a "pro" right? She can take it.... or find another profession.

My point was, and what I tweeted to her is the normal consumer will not visit an enthusiast site about a product. They rely on advertisements, word of mouth, and articles about the product. So I would expect an average consumer to have all the facts, but a business or tech reporter should have multiple source and more of an intimate knowledge prior to writing an article. Potential customers will read that and will be mislead because she didn't fact check or didn't understand what she was writing. That's my issue. She's a professional and should have channels to get her facts and story straight before she publishes. Instead she writes a click bait story but when presented facts wants to argue using one poorly worded sentence to say Apple botched the release because they sent out a reminder about how to purchase that she called a change in purchase policy.

Good discussions.

Try asking your boss if he/she is stupid and see if he/she feels it's a legitimate question

It's a bit hard to believe that the debut fell flat when normal stock was out within the first 5-10 minutes, and certain models were quicker than that.

I do think it's an odd misstep on apples part to not offer this in stores on the 24th. You'd think they'd want the press of people standing in line, etc.

Normal Stock? That's a stretch. You mean extremely limited stock.Which was GONE is 3 minutes.

If her experience at the store is an indicator…people were largely not there for the watch.

IT IS too expensive. Most agree on this point.

I am not going to play the Apple game on this item either of beta testing using their customers.

If, and thats a big if, the watch turns out to be useful I will get version 2 after all the issues and cost complaints are really fleshed out.

The pictures I have seen so far are of a toy.

AND...Why anyone would spend 17K on a version that will become obsolete in 1 year and does not even have that value in the gold, is beyond me.

Wow you went right to being rude. Your points were also weak.

It's Fox. Ever since they reported how Mass Effect was a hardcore lesbian porn sim, I learned not to take what they say seriously.

How well did that drive sales :) Anyone expecting the sim was likely disappointed :)

I quote from the article.

It is worth noting that the iPhone did not achieve widespread adoption at first, only selling 5.4 million devices in the year following its spring 2007 launch. Apple has now sold 700 million iPhones to date. The watches start at $349 and cost as much as $17,000 for gold versions.

I remember the very first iPhone sales. I called on the Saturday after sales had started to ask about the lines for iPhones. They said there were no lines. I asked if they had iPhones. They said that they did. I was in my car in a flash to buy my first iPhone. Remember the first iPhone? - Edge network and hard drive for storage. It was thick and slow.

Sales went well for the Apple Watch. Sales will get better over time and so will the Apple Watch.

This helps underscore why people that watch Faux News exclusively are among the most ill-informed people on the planet. And, apparently, they like being ill-informed and ignorant because some of them fight like hell to defend the "truth" as Faux News presents it.

I'm sorry, but some of you sound a bit pathetic. It's a watch made by a company that doesn't care about you, yet you defend it like it's your closest sibling. Look, the mainstream response to the watch has been tepid at best, but that's ok. As others have said, most first gen products start out slow. The real indicator will be what happens in 6, 12, 18, 24 months. The best part of all of this is that you get to buy one in the mean time, and enjoy it! Who cares if others don't like it or find it revolutionary? You don't have to go on some crusade berating people because they offer up an opinion (sometimes much more informed than yours, i.e. those that have had one for nearly 2 weeks) that differs from yours.

Sorry, end of rant. I just can't stand tough guys behind a screen calling others stupid. And to those cheering these guys on, ask yourself, what am I doing?
