One rumour that could turn out true is that the Home button/Touch ID may no longer be clickable. You simply apply pressure to it. It's not a major change and I can see it being implemented in time for the upcoming iPhone.

You mean like force touch on the MacBook? That would make sense and knowing Apple they would also look at putting it into the iPad as well.

Yes. Like how it is currently on the MacBook. It might also sit flush with the phone.

It'd make sense in regards to the fact it's taking longer to build. Someone said because of this it might also be waterproof and dust proof.

Personally the iPhone 7 is looking to be quite a good phone...

It's definitely more complex...

someone is seriously dropping the design ball....hard to believe Jony Ive is letting all these protruding work pass through his design table

may seem trivial but this is denting the Apple brand

From cool to fool. The cool simple clean design of 4s, refined over time into 5s, then into the mess of protruding camera and antenna lines on 6/6s/(7?).

Goodbye protruding lens. Goodbye antenna lines. Don't make an appearance unsmart-smart connector dots.
Ugly!

i never actually understood how those thin antenna lines r any worse than those random glass pieces of the 5/S. both dont match the center piece and stand out awkwardly

Com'on you guys. Beyond a certain point, what makes manufacturing "complex" is "thinner." With rumors of ejecting headphone jack, etc, sure, Apple could fill the space with "more battery" but we know what Apple does with extra space: "thinnest & lightest* iPhone ever with the same great battery life." Because so many of us gripe about the far too thick & heavy iPhones every year, the paramount objective of every new iPhone is "thinner." If "we" have to achieve it by kicking utility out, so be it.

*No you are not allowed to count the volume or weight of the adapter(s) you carry so that you can keep using your good set of headphones, nor can you count the weight of the (other pair of) dedicated headphones terminating in Lightning you carry for adapterless connection with only iDevices (but not Macs or anything else). "Thinnest & Lightest" is simply a measure of what is IN the box. If we make it thinner & lighter by kicking things out of the traditional box, what counts is still what remains. Next year, we'll kick out the "heavy and large" battery so we can really thin it. After that, the camera should go. Eventually, you give us our $1000 for an empty box (spun as "the thinnest & lightest iPhone possible"... until the next year when we eliminate the box and you give us $1000 for nothing at all), and assemble the iPhone 14 entirely from separate accessory purchases. ;)

Have a feeling iPhone 7 will be the worst selling iPhone ever. If rumors are true won't be that many differences from the 6S.
I'm waiting for 7S or iPhone Pro , or whatever clever name they come up with.
What you mean to say is that you have a feeling that iPhone 7 will be the first iPhone not to crush its predecessors sales down in the drain.

Being the worst selling iPhone is just ridiculous. It would have to sell less than half of what the iPhone 6S & 6S Plus did in ONE weekend over the ENTIRE year to be the worst selling iPhone ever.

True, both are awkward, the 6/6s, more so, going from metal, to break, to metal, to break, to metal. With 5/5s metal to glass to metal. At least with 5/5s the camera ring is fully eliminated and cleaner.

What exactly was that, and why exactly was it released.

It would be really nice to find out that Apple has a surprise in store for us. I really don't mind the form factor, so they can keep that for years on end as far as i am concerned, but so far I have not heard of any new gotta have features. At least I still don't gotta have dual lenses on my phone. And I certainly don't gotta have a missing headphone jack.

Totally with you on the form factor and headphone jack. Will reserve judgement on the dual lens camera. Some reading on that has me very interested.

What I find encouraging though is that the coming design they call "mega-cycle" represents a whole new ballgame, and they are taking the appropriate time with it. Apple has a winner of a form factor now. They know it, we know it. So frankly, I would rather the next "ground up" redesign take some time and represent a true quantum leap in processing, imaging, data speed, and battery life.

If the haters want to keep making jokes about innovation, protruding camera lens, etc, etc... whatever. Other than the thin / battery life complaints, it's all a load of bunk anyway.

It'll sell like hot cakes as always.

I don't know if these features are something we will see this year but it would be great if they were included. Personally I'm loving the dual camera rumours, I think some people are underestimating it at the moment. We will have to see what Apple announce in September but I'm guessing there will be some nice features.

Another point is if they remove the headphone jack, will they include some wireless earphones in the box? They probably will. There was a rumour that Apple was working on a "premium" set of wireless earphones that they would announce alongside the iPhone 7 in September. Apple do hold a patent for the name "Airpods" so it's possible they are working on something.

Wow if the camera lens looks like that...what a bumpity bump that will be, yikes!!!

"Foxconn Zhengzhou is hiring a large number of ordinary workers.

Great. Does this mean we will get another ordinary version of the same iPhone from the last 3 years too. Show me what you got Apple.

If Apple wants to continue their downward sales trend through to the 4th quarter, they'll build this atrocious piece of garbage looking phone.

That design rings a bell....

On the dual lense issue, you are right that there is some potential out there. What I have read so far in terms of the Apple rumors has me underwhelmed. However, I have read that taking two simultaneous pictures and overlaying them, would give higher resolution, lower noise pictures. That would be something worthwhile. I have a DSLR, so right now when I want good pictures, I use that, but if they could use the dual lense to rival a DSLR in terms of quality and depth, that would excite me. the 3D stuff that people are talking about I am not into at all right now.

3,800 renminbi = $580 (USD) per month. Atrocious wages for people working up to and more than 60 hours a week.

So what's the alternative?

You've identified the problem... so why are people still working there?

If there was a better place to work that paid a higher wage... they'd already be there, right?

But considering Foxconn has 1,000,000 employees... maybe it IS a good place to work compared to other places in China.

Thoughts?

Same here. I think people are underestimating how good a dual-camera setup would be. (A Pro lineup also makes sense, we have MacBook, MacBook Pro and iPad, iPad Pro etc.)

The iPhone 7 Pro might drop the headphone jack and ship with Lightning EarPods while the regular iPhone 7 will have a headphone jack and will ship with the 3.5mm EarPods.

In 2017, that's when we might see the AirPods you mentioned (true wireless earphones with no wire connecting the two earphones).

Even with all things considered with cost of living, these Apple offshore factory workers are getting a completely raw deal. In addition to a jam session with Garage Band, maybe Tim brought a suitcase of bonus compensatory payments as a thank you to staff for gruelling work conditions?

It is way worse in Hungary...

Wonder if they've beefed up the suicide prevention nets. After all, shaving off an extra MM and adding an extra gig of RAM to upgrade from last years model is a priority.

I and others predicted this phone would look almost exactly like the 6 at least three months before the "analysts" based on leaks. And at the same time predicted it would ship earlier than usual for that same reason.
I still believe that.
Apple NEEDS to earn as much from this years new model on this year's books, so releasing it earlier would certainly do that.

People are lured with the false belief that working in and offshore Apple factory is just swell. But with the turn over of staff, clearly it isn't a good experience. Get a sample of the experiences at www.chinalaborwatch.org
But seems you're convinced already it sounds like a good place to work, you suggest? Go try six months. See how it works firsthand and report back here before the year is out.
Thanks.

It won't ship earlier at WWDC (if that's what your thinking) iOS 10 would need to be announced and beta tested first. That's why the iPhones have a separate event in September and ship with the latest IOS.
