I am not even reading those links, reason, it's bollocks.
I've been around on this world and believe me there are plenty of places in this world where people make $ 30 a month.
I am pretty sure that working as a farmer in China far away from the big cities won't earn you more than $50 a month or less, those people can make a lot more than staying at home.
Half of my time I live in Indonesia and wages for most people are less than $100, especially those working on the land as rice farmers, most even don't own any land, it's even hard for them to buy new seeds or fertilizer, for many of the younger generation it is a godsend to get a decent job in a factory in the big city, this way they can support their families.

And then there is this, do you want to pay even more or a lot more for your iPhone or Mac, I guess not.
Don't pretend to make the world a better place, because you can't.

Most of them are happy to get such a job, you see that in the numbers of people showing up.
Sure thing, don't read the links and remain ignorant.

Couldn't have said it better, plus my mantra, stop making more people!

There's absolutely a story here. Because when you're forty, you're more likely to speak up. Young employees are notorious for staying quiet and not asserting themselves or confronting their management and that makes a more attractive employee for an employer especially in this situation.

OMG, really?

For many years China had a single child policy. (It may have stopped now. I don't know.)

This resulted in one worker supporting two parents and four grandparents. They have a huge problem with their aging population.

China needs to keep its working age population working. A slowdown in consumption in the U.S. would have devastating effects on China's economy.

At the same time the United States needs to keep its workers working also. However, the U.S. can't compete head-to-head with $3.63/hr wages. Things will have to get really bad before Americans will start to work for those wages. I don't think any American wants to envision what a country where the prevailing wage is $3.63/hr. would look like.

These are difficult questions which won't be solved by 30 second sound bites from our current crop of politicians on either side of the political aisle.

Not only that, Americans have a lot of education issues and when reality shows and what the Jenners and Kardashians etc.etc. do is more important than education you know what 's wrong .

Just watch once : "Are you smarter than a fifth grader "and the amount of non knowledge is frightening.

And, these people vote! And, want to tell China how they should treat their people.

Throwing out some carrots here:)

In many states most minimum wage jobs are in the hands of latinos and illegals. In my area, I rarely see Americans climbing a tree fro $ 9.00 an hour to prune apple trees, bending to collect fallen fruit or preparing the land for the next crop.

Have a feeling iPhone 7 will be the worst selling iPhone ever. If rumors are true won't be that many differences from the 6S.
I'm waiting for 7S or iPhone Pro , or whatever clever name they come up with.

Yep, hardly differences. So few differences they had to hire extra people to make sure absolutely nothing changes. :)

There's clearly something different enough that the manufacturers are having to change the way they build it.

People are lured with the false belief that working in and offshore Apple factory is just swell. But with the turn over of staff, clearly it isn't a good experience. Get a sample of the experiences at www.chinalaborwatch.org
But seems you're convinced already it sounds like a good place to work, you suggest? Go try six months. See how it works firsthand and report back here before the year is out.
Thanks.
That's terrible. But according to that site nearly everything I own that isn't a US-made hand me down from the 50's-70's or made by local craftsmen for various fairs and shows was made under appalling conditions. Samsung uses child labor according to that link. If I want to try and be a responsible consumer I'm going to have to live Amish style. It's not just technology, even cookware is made under abusive conditions.

My car was made in Tennessee by workers who at the time were well treated and it shows. My car is amazing at nearly 25 years running. Our workers can be amazing when trained properly and respected. I wish we could make everything in countries with proper labor protection laws. I know what it's like to work under bad conditions but my "bad conditions" pale in comparison to child labor conditions in China and other cheap labor countries.

This is appalling and depressing. I wish there were an easy answer.

Sure thing, don't read the links and remain ignorant.

We read them, but ALL of the info, including responses and follow ups.
We also don't cherry pick only the parts which fit our viewpoint.

Before you actually think I am a capitalist and money only person, I am a socialist and always have been.
I am FOR workers, as that is what my family was. Blue collar all the way.

I think it is good to have chinalaborwatch, as I am sure that communist regimes take a lot of liberties and make sure they live well, but people don't. Nothing new there.

The poster gave you plenty of examples of how much money is made in other parts of the world.

Again: Do not apply USA standards to other cultures or countries.

This is a good point, I'm wondering if Apple have done this on purpose, released a number of different rumours and test models that have been allowed to "leak" in order to push people in a different direction and then bang show us a surprise that we didn't see coming. I could be wrong but it's just a thought.

Plus my mantra, stop making more people!

That's what I say back home in Indonesia, I live/lived there for years, on Java island, it is 3 times bigger than where I come from originally, 17 million people here, java is 3 times bigger as I said before but has more than 120 million people on that ilsand alone, there are just no jobs for all these people, the pie is just to small to have a decent serving for all.

Wondering if they are changing the iPhone product drastically, Update the current design to the 7 while close in looks different enough and shock us all with a one more thing moment and introduce a pro line of iPhones that is completely different and of course more money but different. No headphone jack stereo speakers a super camera upgrade better cpu ram all of it.

By having two completely different lines like macs before it the consumer gets more choice the lineup can be simplified instead of numbers it could be just iPhone and iPhone pro like macs.

Apple has a winner of a form factor now. They know it, we know it.

You think?? I still maintain that the 6 is the worst form factor iPhone ever, too big, too wide, too slippy, too ugly. Ironically for me, the thinness is the only thing I like (and the main thing others dislike) but quite a few don't like the design even if they do prefer the bigger screen options.

(p.s. great avatar :) )

Hopefully more complex = more innovative.

Would love to be surprised this year, so far it's underwhelming...

This is Apple we are talking about here.

This. I would much prefer the 5S design. Those hard edges made sure it stayed in my hand. The 6S Plus is too slippery that I HAVE to use a case.

Yes, and that is worldwide. Not everybody can have a job.
And, that doesn't even take into account those who don't want to work or are not capable to do even the simplest tasks.
I used to be in Export Marketing and from a desk it is so easy to make judgements and say this is the way this and that should be , etc.

Then you travel (I like you, did plenty) and see the world and it's all not so easy.

A few years back my previous company top bosses were upset with Indonesia when they dared to sell Refreshing Towelettes by the piece, while the German pack was a minimum of 5 with a printed folding carton.
The local Indonesian retailer was a guy with a bicycle and he had display cases on his bike. Selling Wrigley's chewing gum by one stick and whatever else, but all onesies.
We then let them produce locally to save them money and they couldn't even run the factory until night (when people were sleeping) as there wasn't enough electricity to run the machines during the day.

That's the stuff nobody in USA realizes. Some countries don't even have enough fresh water etc., and we complain about protruding lenses and antenna lines. LOL.

Source please. All I know is that I'd be completely ashamed if my extended offshore factory had to have nets installed and that the business had an unusual concentration of deaths explained or unexplained.

You would be "embarrassed" if the factory that you did NOT run, but assembled yours (and EVERY other company's) gadgets... had an instance of 17 suicides from a one million plus work force, over a period of five years; making it statistically lower than the national average? You'd be embarrassed that, even though that is true, they went to great lengths to prevent it by things that are tangible... like the nets installed by Foxconn- to things less tangible, like the local spiritual advisors sent there by Apple to counsel those that may be battling with depression, anxiety, loneliness, or addiction?
Hmmmm....
You pick weird things to be embarrassed by.
I'd be saddened by the deaths (I actually am) & I'd be relieved by the efforts to quell such issues (I actually am here as well).

3,800 renminbi = $580 (USD) per month. Atrocious wages for people working up to and more than 60 hours a week. Even with all things considered with cost of living, these Apple offshore factory workers are getting a completely raw deal. In addition to a jam session with Garage Band, maybe Tim brought a suitcase of bonus compensatory payments as a thank you to staff for gruelling work conditions?

Really? I did a comparison using your website for Zhengzhou to where I live, and it's about 600% more expensive for rent where I live in comparison. So, very approximately, $580*600% = 3480 * 12 = $41,760/yr, not a bad salary when comparing cost of living. Yes, the hours are atrocious and the work is horrifyingly boring, but the pay doesn't seem bad to me at all...

More complex to assemble so if this is true my guess is that it points to a water and dust proof design.
If that's true, it may be enough for me to upgrade from the 6s to the 7 plus. Water and dust proof, dual lens camera, smart connector, and longer battery life. And although I'm not a fan of huge phones, maybe I'll give it a try.

Exactly! And if you care what your lover looks like, what your car looks like, your dinner looks like, what your clothes look like, what that big pimple on your lip looks like...
Please! Please! Go seek professional help!

Your examples are farfetched and comical.

There are more things to worry about/important for life than protruding camera lenses and antenna bands.

Again, those with a case have no case.

Everybody else is free to buy the perfect products Android is offering.
Problem solved.

iPhone 7SSE PRO, with a name like that $175 premium!

Is there a rumour that the battery life will go up, as in a noticeable amount?

Maybe the USA pulls all Chinese manufacturing and they get no wages. How about that?

Then they can starve... Is that what you want to see happen :(

I'm waiting for the iPhone SUPER ULTRA MEGA RIDICULOUSLY UTTERLY UNAPOLOGETICALLY THIN Edition iPhone, you know, the one that is so thin its cuts like a Samurai sword. Go 1mm, or go home.

Nevermind I want the "S" version, so it's .5mm thin instead.

Nothing. Ramp up is early in order to get the product out earlier. 6s sales are dying. :apple:

This is what I don't understand. The 6S Plus (and 6S) was WAYYY better than the 6 IMO. It's perfect. I guess people just wanted bigger screens.

It's funny... I completely forgot to be specific that I like the smaller form factor of the SE. Not *quite* enough to invest time and money replacing the 6s I have. But if I damage the 6s badly, it will be replaced with the SE. I just plain like that look & feel. And so do many others based on SE sales.

And thanks for the compliment. I've been watching their matches since the beginning of the year. Pretty amazing, all out guts, stuff. It's the greatest sports story since the Miracle on Ice.
