Looks like this is the new scheme of things:
If anything bad happens, feel free to blame Apple!

As for the guy, may he rest in peace. But I have no sympathy for him. Any person who commits suicide is weak, no matter what the reason.

because of "APPLE" and "IPHONE" involved ...... get a grip media

There are no coincidences. Funny how the poor soul took a leap right after a "visit" by security guys. Could there be something nefarious going on here?

You know most company dont know the vendor is underpay or sth else, because they only focusing on the audit report most of time(audit report is from audit company in china). So do u get the picture now?

Oh, I think Apple is aware of precisely why it's so cheap to build Macs in China. The low cost of labour was the overriding benefit in moving to China.

Even in spite of Ireland having one of the lowest corporate tax rates in the world, and a highly educated, English speaking workforce with the benefits of EU membership; it still lost the manufacturing facilities to China/Taiwan.

No, see, that's not proof. That's drawing an extremely broad conclusion on the basis of a correlation (apple's tangential involvement) in an isolated incident. You, sir, have absolutely no proof of anything and no frickin' idea whether it would have played out the same way with another company in apple's place.

Tangential involvement? Based on the contracts Apple writes with its suppliers, what type of 'elasticity' do you think they have with respect to trade secrets and confidentiality? Based on Apple's documented obsession with secrecy, I don't believe it would be a stretch to suggest that it places extremely stressful demands on the vendor as well as its workers.

In the end, our argument on a internet message board is inconsequential to the facts at hand - a man committed suicide because of a phone prototype. A phone prototype. This is absurd.

Positive? I'd be very interested to know how it is possible to spin a person's death into a positive rating?

Hopefully they are just mistakes.

You know how they say, "it's always in the last place you look" I wonder right now if there is an iphone in heaven/hell.

Did he check behind the sofa cushions? That's where I usually lose stuff...

what a story that would make. "man commits suicide for lost iphone prototype; phone found in sofa"

If Apple wants to keep their business so secret, maybe they'd be better off just owning their own factories. With all their billions of cash in the bank, they can surely afford to do so.

I am all in for that! I was never happy with Foxconn as Apple's manufacture. The quality control and assemble quality of the Apple products is not the quality it should be ;)

With best regards,
Bas

You have a point. I have it on good authority a cell of (Apple) white-garbed ninjas were responsible for this guy's death.

As for who gave the order, well it was none other than the bearded "Mr. W" the corpulent and psychopathic Triad boss whose 'cover' is as a genial senior executive who is well known for cutting in line at California Apple stores to sign iPho........arrrggghh! *thunk*

Keep it secret, keep it safe.

It appears young Frodo could not complete the mission and cast the evil iPhone prototype back into the fires in which it came.

It seems all hope will be lost, and the world will be taken over by Apple and their iPhones. Which is cool by me.

Interesting how we're picking up murder mystery stories from across the world just because it it slightly related to Apple. I wonder what would happen if any major news network picked up on this.

There are always positives and negatives on every front page story. No matter what.

And yes you could be right that they are mistakes.

Very sad. Sorry to hear about it.
Here's a side question, although it could just be a mistake in translation:
Why would there be prototype phones on a factory line on July 9? Wouldn't they be production phones by then? Or is something else coming along soon?

Curious about that too - wouldn't Apple have some in-house production? a batch of a dozen or so... The China brick perhaps? But why would China get a diff prototype beyond lack of wifi chip?
Pity they didn't have Mobileme accounts for prototypes.. could MobileMe have found the handset?

Seems Apple's holding all the accessory market up till iPod refresh in September- likely iPod Touch amongst them. Could it have been the Touch, rather than an iPhone prototype?

Alos funny if you u think about this. Apple wants a greener product, en pretend it cares for the environment. The same time it produce it's products in countries where there are no strict environment laws, and where factories dump trash straight in the Black Sea. That is why manufacturing is so much cheaper there, since they don't have all the strict labor and environment laws like Europe and the Western continent.

I hope one day Apple will manufacture their own products in USA or Europe

With best regards,
Bas

I feel like this has less to do with "Apple's secretive nature" and more to do with the importance of honor in Asian cultures. This is not the first time a suicide has taken place in China over someone failing at their job. Remember the toys with the led paint about a year ago? The CEO (I think) hanged himself in his office over that. It happens, and even though it was over an Apple product, it had nothing to do with Apple, it was Foxconn. I wouldn't be surprised if the same happened over a product for another company.

China uses CDMA. So do two of the other largest cell phone markets, USA and India.

One can dream...

I'm pretty sure Foxxcon just assembles all of the products, which are all shipped from other factories. Not a lot of actual waste is made out of assembly factories in comparison to those that fabricate materials (Which the materials used are eco-friendly).

I know, a real shame that. Ironic too as I often find swapping out logic boards and reapplying thermal paste is so much easier and quicker after a few scoops of Murphy's.

Apple bettter have some response to this

You say that like Apple is to blame for this. Labor conditions in China are the responsibility of the Chinese Government and Chinese employers. If FoxComm is within the guidelines set by the local government who is Apple to say otherwise. Apple and the US are not the kings of the world. Yes it would be nice perhaps if everything was made in the West but the fact of the matter is, Asian is the center for such manufacturing, it is a niche they found where they can bring in jobs for their people. so why not give them the jobs, why deny them the work in favor of countries that speak English, give their people what we deem "fair conditions" etc.

This guy certainly felt otherwise and I suspect this whole obsession with secrecy is responsible...

Most big companies make their vendors sign agreements to keep their mouths shut. whether it is computers, phones or the next Harry Potter book.

Your proof is one dead Foxconn employee. Do you think would have played out in the same way if this was Nokia? Motorola? RIM? No.

would it be as newsworthy is the real question.

Even if the workers are poorly treated relative to Western workers, it's entirely possible they're doing well relative to other employees or the unemployed. That is an important factor too.

exactly

Also we don't know the whole situation. this poor guy could have been mentally ill. He could have been on his 5th job and under a lot of stress to do well and he panicked. it just happened to be some Apple that caused it so it is high news
