Apple being Apple:

It'll be announced when they're ready.
(I think the release date is only guesstimated ("second half 2013") until they have supplies ready for shipment. Only then an announcement will be made)

Not gonna happen...
Were are the iphone main competitors HTC, Samsung, etc? have they much better smartphones than iphone 4S? -> no so no iphone 5 in summer lol...

I don't believe there will be a new iPhone this year. iPhone 4s is already so far ahead of the competition Apple doesn't need to rush a new product to market. iPhone 5 will be a truly revolutionary device when it launches in 2013 of course.

The 4S doesn't support 4G LTE. How is that ahead of the competition?

Waiting for that typical dummo uninformed post that this should all be done in America, American jobs and all that jazz.

Try hiring 18,000 in USA in the same area any place.

Not happening!

Whenever they release this thing it better be revolutionary! The competition is pushing limits With the HTC One X, Galaxy S3(Whenever that gets announced), and the Lumia 900.

The 4/4s design and feature set is getting dated

Dont burst his little iBubble

Its simple, if a iOS 6 beta gets released sometime this month to the public, then the next gen iPhone could be expected at WWDC.

If iOS 6 is released at WWDC or around that time, then expect the fall release.

Apple not Foxconn will signal when the next iPhone will launch.

A logical response that isn't demeaning to non-fanboys? You win the prize.

How can the iPhone 5 "launch in June" when no major changes (in design or hardware-wise) have been leaked yet?

As much as I want it to launch in June, I'd want to know why we haven't heard about iOS 6 yet if it is launching in June (anyone know how far in advance they gave iOS 4 out before the iphone 4 came out?).

I have a hard time believing Apple would release a larger iPhone with less PPI … unless they just add height and width and keep the same density.

From a totally selfish and egocentric point of view (and is there any other), a Sept/Oct launch works great for me as my contract is up at that time, and that means I'm not going to have to whine and beg Verizon to move up my contact termination date.

Also...I don't give a rat's ass what they call it. They can call it iPhone 5, iPhone 6, (just plain) iPhone, or iPhone Putz for all I care, I skipped 4S and am getting this one no matter what.

So don't get me mad about what it's going to be called...

The hiring spree is to make up the hours lost that they were forced to cut from workers over-time.

I suspect so.

Also I question of "launch" in the case of Foxconn means sales or start of production for a later actual sales launch.

I mean they could be 'launching' in terms of in June they will be training the staff on the exact procedures for assembly etc, then in July they start actual assembly to build up stock for a Sept/Oct launch of sales

Personally I hope they release the new iPone in June. 4 years ago I bought the iPhone 3G. 2 Years ago the iPhone 4 (Both on their release dates), so I am now due for a new iPhone.

I don't think the iPhone needs a bigger screen, I think it is the perfect size right now.

It seems strange that they'd launch the new iPhone in June when last year's broke the trend, and wasn't announced at WWDC 2012. Especially as the iPhone 4S was only a minor update.

Then again, didn't the acquisition and continued development of Siri slow the release date down?

I really have no idea what Apple will do other than add 4G/LTE & a thinner design.

Not this time...unless I see a 4" display and oled screen

Unfortunately apparently OLED hasn't advanced enough to suppor the Retina PPI without going pentile. I doubt Apple will go pentile or at least I sure hope they don't.

I have a hard time believing Apple would release a larger iPhone with less PPI … unless they just add height and width and keep the same density.

They can lessen the PPI a little bit since the current iPhone resolution is arguably a bit too high for its screen size. Thus I keep thinking it'll be 3.8" which will fit in perfectly with Jobs' claim of 300DPI being "Retina"

I still don't get why it's referred to as the iPhone 5. The 4s is the 5th generation. Is it possible that he meant revving up production for the 4s for another countries release? (okay, probably not this late and close to the next iPhone...) if the next iPhone is actually called the iPhone 5 I will be suprised.

The next generation of android "super phones" is not going to substantially change the game. Spec/feature jockeys have had reason to choose android for a while now. It hasn't really made a difference with respect to what real people want.

We've already seen what advertising 4G on the new iPad in countries that don't actually support 4G has done for Apple. Imagine what will happen when the iPhone starts supporting LTE.

I mean I think we'd all love a sooner than later release, but aren't voice/data LTE low powered chips not expected until late 2012?

No, they are available now. Qualcomm has their .28 process down, whereas previous chips used the .45 process, which the new iPad uses.

B.S.

iOS 6 hasn't even been previewed yet, much less seen many rumor leaks, and I'm very confident Apple is not going to announce a new phone w/o a new full point version of iOS.

If Apple announces a special preview event in the next couple of weeks then maybe there is something to the rumor. Otherwise pure bunk.

Well the iPhone 4 did come after the iPhone 3Gs so there is precedent. But you could be right about the next iPhone not being "iPhone 5" if the new iPad is any indication. It could just be "the new iPhone." But I doubt it. The new iPhone will have a name, probably iPhone 5.
