"Release" is a relative term

Maybe it's this. A June "release" by Foxconn probably refers to a much earlier date. A "release" to production at Foxconn may actually be scheduled for June in order to build up the necessary inventory for a 3rd quarter "release" to the public by Apple. Remember, this person was a supposed recruiter at Foxconn, not Apple. It takes a few months of production to gear up for Apple rollouts.

Just wait for the sgs3 to come out. I know many "real ppl(iphone users)" to be getting that as their first android over the next iphone.

I was seduced by the look of SGS2 when i decided to swap my iPhone 4 with my mates brand new SGS2 (he said that couldn't use android) I had it for 4 months. It was such a stupid mistake!! I was not expecting android to be as good as iOS but really wanted to experience something different and i payed the price. The phone itself did let me down many times. Crashed so many times when it was fully charged and after the restart the battery was totally dead! Apps crashing quicker then eye blinks! Thanks god there is one site called ebay where all the garbage endes........

Back to the subject.....

I hope for a june releise! That's when my 2 years contract (and probably millons of others) ends and need renewing. I hope they don't make large silly screens like some other phone-tabled hybrid weird stuff out there. Just thinner, lighter, faster, better designed new iPhone. That's all i want.

Well i just hope apple updates the ui a bit in ios 6. Afyer 4years its getting kinda boring. Thats my biggest wish cos otherwise i might jump ship and im worried about regretting it and im
Getting new macbook pro this year, an iphone will play nicer with that than an android.

would be nice but doubtful (a june launch that is).

Anyone who has ANY tech-blog aggregating app on their phone (and I would EXPECT someone who's a member of MacRumors to have one as we seem to be the most likely bunch to "give a crap") would have been inundated with article after article about the "strong sales" of the iPhone 4S... They're EVERYWHERE. Go to Google right now and type in "iPhone 4S sales march" and check the results.

To me, it sounds like -- even if Apple had a new iPhone ready for production RIGHT NOW, they wouldn't release it. Why release something new (prematurely) when the last one is still selling well? That's just bad business practice.

I mean I think we'd all love a sooner than later release, but aren't voice/data LTE low powered chips not expected until late 2012? Surely since the A6 wasn't ready for the iPad 3, it probably won't be ready until late 2012 either. I can't see them sticking the A5 in there again, and the A5X wouldn't fit.

I call BS, I'm thinking still a Fall release.

This is correct as I understand it. They are beholden to when the fabs can push out the new process node, which Anand at least, said would be towards the latter part of 2012.

Would be sort of odd to call the next iPhone the iPhone 5 when it's running iOS 6 don't you think?

iPhone 3G shipped with iOS 2.
iPhone 4s shipped with iOS 5

I don't really follow the logic where the model name must = the iOS version. It's never been the case with any other device/computer that ran an OS.

I'd love to see an LTE iPhone release in June. I don't think it will happen. Most likely November 2012. Looking forward to a Sprint LTE iPhone or possible even a T-Mobile one. Either way, I refuse to stay on AT&T's ****** 3G network once there's an LTE iPhone available elsewhere.

if there's no iOS6 coming out i guess we can also rule out a bigger screen which also means we'll still use the same UI which is starting to look soooo 2007. i love my iPhone 4 and 4S but i guess i'll have to look for a "change" after 4 generations of iPhones in the future. love to play around with new things, stuff gets old easily for me and looking at those damn icons for 5 years is just that ... boring ^^

Either that, or there's two new iPhone models.

A normal sized 3.5" model, and a 4" or so sized model. The products will be launched in fall this year, but around June the designs finalised and production ramped up.

Apple is going to put something out to compete with the Kindle Fire and Note. Something in the 5-7 inch range to satisfy people wanting a bigger iPhone but a smaller iPad. They could drop it in June at MWC. With the new iPhone in Oct.

Shhh!

The simple adoption of secrecy -- better than CIA grade -- allows Apple to spring things on us. This creates a market for their products, and a market of rumors. The other side gets press releases. We get reading of tea leaves.

I'm hoping for a re-design.. one more year of the same looking phone and I will have to part ways with the iPhone (although i'll probably pick up a iPod touch, since I love and have the whole apple ecosystem already in place)

June Release Good for Apple/AT&T/Verizon

Since the 4S was released in October, just about everyone that got one then cannot upgrade until October of this year.

So a June release date will allow for new customers to get their first iPhone while Apple works on the stock needed for all the upgraders.

If they release it in October 2012, they will definitly sellout before satisfying newbies.

Makes perfect financial sense to me! Of course, I can't upgrade until October!:(

I would be pretty pissed at a June launch since I waited almost 3 years between getting my iPhone 3G and getting my iPhone 4S (with the delayed launch). To have a new and improved one in 8-9 months would put a damper on my spirits, unless it's just a bump in specs and not a radical redesign.

Deep down I hope for a June release but it just seems..unlikely. Still, the people who bought the iPhone 4 back in June '10 are ready for an upgrade.

Amen, iEnvy. I'm in that boat, even worse my iP4 broke so now I'm using my 3G for calls and the 4 for everything else. Carrying 2 phones is pretty painful but I'm holding out for the next bit of Cupert7ino magic.

It failed in less than 2 years?

Why would you buy another phone from a company with such a poor quality record?

No phone is perfect believe it or not..Besides Apple has some of the best customer service. Replaced my iPhone no questions asked. :p

At least the iPhone gets upgraded! Look at all of the Android handsets out there still running Gingerbread, when Ice Cream Sandwhich has been out since last fall!

ICS was released on the Nexus last fall and none of the OEM's actually received a final release inl January of this year. Naturally they will put the OS on newer phones and roll out updates to previous models and none of the OEM's had the ability to launch a new phone until the Nexus was out first. If you are going to say something, know what you are talking about first.

Foxconn touted the hiring of 20k more employees back in March to support the next iPhone models production. This was before they announced the changes in working hours and other "benefits" that Foxconn employees don't want us to give them. As has been previously stated by Foxconn employees they want to work, so we should let them work.

As for the June release, its very plausible. If the rumored new design that was leaked out last summer and those cases were floating around for is the basis for the next iPhone but with updated 28nm chips and 32/28nm SoC installed we could very well see it.

However I see Apple rolling this along until October time frame, holiday sales and most importantly it likely costs them less to make the iP4S than it would a new model so why not add to their cash horde (vast majority outside of the US and the pissing and moaning about taxes, suck it up Apple) while they are at it.

Summer would be nice, but I don't have an upgrade until fall, so fall it is.

Will avoid lines by preordering again.

I really hope we get a larger screen.

That's all I realistically want.

I know apple won't give us any real big update to ios though it needs it.

Notifications still suck. They need to buy lockinfo and bitesms and call it day.

And let's not forget IntelliscreenX

It is more likely that the hiring spree is due to the fact that Foxconn was forced to limit hours on it's employees which will cut down their hours worked. This leaves a lot of unaccounted hours to be worked, so they need a larger workforce to make up the difference and proceed at the normal production goals that they are used to.

This is all assuming that they are actually following the new rules and not pulling out the smoke and mirrors as they normally do.

Estimates were 20% more employees would be needed to meet the same output they have today, so this hiring is not really a ramp in capacity for this factory location at all...
